"First Class hotel for cleanliness, food and helpful staff. As hotel was quiet early February, we were given one of the larger rooms for no additional cost. First class corner room with windows on 2 sides looking north over the town and hills. Very comfortable room, furniture old fashioned but that added to the style. En suite a bit basic in decor, but clean so no complaint. Despite not many guests in the hotel, the lounge area had a wonderful open fire and was very welcoming. Dining room has wonderful relaxing atmosphere again with a nice open fire. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would thoroughly recommend hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing few days exploring Hawick and surrounding areas. Good value for money" (99578328)
Large comfortable bedroom, plus cosy open fires in both dining troom and guests lounge
En Suite Bathroom decor a bit vbasic and dated

Friendliness of the staff. Peaceful setting.
I travelled with an elderly sister and the stair were a chore to use, especially opening the heavy fire door directly at the top of the stairs.

"I found the hotel to be very pleasing both in appearance and comfort. In general the staff were extremely efficient and friendly. The restaurant facility and food was of the highest quality without any cause to raise any complaints. I would recommend the venison medallions to anybody, they were wonderful. The decor of the hotel is first class, some of the painted ceilings are well presented and maintained, causing us to comment to the staff on them. The location of the hotel was convenient for our purpose although from the publicity we had the impression that it not only stood in its own grounds, as it does, but was a more rural location. Please do not accept this as a criticism it was purely an impression we had received. Overall I consider the hotel to be of great value and with exception to the small issue above all staff were extremely helpful and courtious. Highly recommended, we will use it again." (3304318547)
1.The comfort of the room. 2.The courtesy of staff. The location.
I couldn't really find fault during the short stay, the only issue was that one member of the restaurant staff was uncertain of answers to requests made, consequently it turned out that she was new and just didn,t know. Perhaps more initial training could have been given.

"The location was very good, food was excelent, accommadation was of a very low standard, ( rooms 12 and 4 ). The standard of finish was very poor with a mixture of MFI type furniture, not what you would picture in a country house Hotel." (99419496)

"Good value for money hotel, nice, large, clean room, friendly staff. The food was good, although my partner's lunch choice, (steak & ale pie)was quite tasteless, and we were quite disappointed with it. However, we enjoyed a very nice, dinner, the wine list was quite impressive. There was also a very good choice of breakfast items, and again the breakfast staff were attentive and helpful." "Our stay at this hotel was a mixed experience. The restaurant was excellent; the dining room was well restored and decorated and the dinner was excellent and good value for money. Breakfast too was first class. Unfortunately, our bedroom did not match the rate that we paid. The room was very large but the fittings were worn out. The bathroom had been fitted very cheaply and the bath had a bad water mark from a dripping tap. Although it was clean, it was not what we expected for the money. If only the room had matched the quality of the restaurant and service we would have been delighted." (3305086305)
The building, gardens and restaurant.
The room was somewhat worn and did not match the rate charged.

"The room was only adequate - and not, in my opinion, as someone who stays frequently in hotels, worth £80 per night. This was a shame as the breakfast was very good. Dinner in the bar was also expensive and fairly average quality. All in all, I will not be staying there on my next business trip to the area." (3304866294)
The grounds of the hotel are lovely.
The bedroom was badly needing to be painted and the shower cubicle was broken.

"A lovely, old style hotel standing in beautiful gardens (don't run over the rabbits!) with excellent views over Hawick. The sort of place where I much prefer to stay rather than the 'plastic' hotels where you could be anywhere!" (3304806888)

"Our impression of the hotel before our holiday was that it is a busy, quality hotel with a good restaurant. However, the limited dinner menu changes on a monthly basis and the standard of the food is average. We appeared to be the only diners in the restaurant on our first night and the restaurant was was not full the second night. We dined elsewhere thereafter. The staff are polite and courteous. Our bathrooms did not have windows and the lavatory in one of our rooms was very noisy due to the plumbing system. We stayed in a high quality bed and breakfast en route to this hotel. The B&B cost £54 per room and was far superior in decor, furnishings, bathroom suites, service, quality of the breakfast and location than the Mansfield House hotel. We therefore think that the Mansfield House Hotel is not good value for the amount of money they charge for a room. We hope these comments are helpful." (3304479556)
Reasonable location for touring the Borders area of Scotland
Menus are limited and inflexible and food is average quality

"Overall, this Hotel was OK (bearing in mind I only paid £55 B&B for a single room), However, if you can stretch to more, I was able to go into room 14 which was a Huge room with a Huge bed. The Hotel is a Traditional Hotel & as a 30 x something Sales Rep was what I expected from this type of Hotel... Excellent Service & Food, but too Old Fashioned for me personally (but then I knew that would be the case when I booked)... The setting is beautifull & am sure in the summer months would be breathtaking..." (3304473599)
Beautifull Setting in Woodland Food was Excellent Ian was a good host
The Music Choice of CD's in the Bar... As a 30 x something, I would prefer to hear more modern music than the 60's

Clean, spacious very helpful and courteous staff.Excellent breakfast.
Need a front door key after 11pm. Only two keys available and both were being used by other visitors. We had to get back soon after 11pm to avoid getting staff out of bed to answer door.

"This is a very well managed hotel with a Family owned feel about it. We were made to feel very welcome and the management and staff could not have been more helpful. The food was excellent and the public areas of the hotel had a comfortable Scottish Country House ambience." (3304199692)

"Hotel bedrooms were clean but old fashioned, very high ceilings, very tall windows. Public areas were better." (2985108)
Public areas were adequate.
Public areas of the hotel were adequate, but rooms were very old fashioned, and the night that we stayed was quite cold, and the room was very chilly. Food menu did not offer a great choice, and I felt that it was quite expensive for the quality provided. Room cost was £80.00,so was not cheap.I would not have expecxted to pay that amountmfor that standard of accomodation.

"The food is a real surprise. The menu is imaginative - even the bar snacks - and the quality belies the modest charges. Don't expect to be able to walk in the grounds, it is mostly wooded slopes which is a pity. The staff are efficient and friendly - they take time to get it right." (2788759)

Historic Facility, Grounds were very well kept, Building was well maintained
They need to keep up with maintanance & keep on with renovations as this is an older facility that must be constantly attended to.

"The hotel is a country house set in large grounds about a mile outside Hawick. You are free to explore the grounds that are being gradually restored to their original state by the owners. Car parking was plentiful and the welcome was warm and friendly but not overpowering. By good fortune we were assigned a large family room - the beds were comfortable and the heating was very effective. A very strong plus point - the breakfast was freshly prepared and well cooked - no hot buffet with tired sausages and congealed egg that is so frequently offered by even the most expensive big name hotels. We also had dinner in the hotel (we didn't want to go out looking for a restaurant in nearby Hawick) and this proved to be an excellent decision; the locally supplied steak and venison were well prepared and of high quality, the vegetables were fresh and the wine was reasonably priced. Highly recommended." (1601742)
Pleasant surroundings, friendly welcome, large room, good freshly prepared breakfast.
