VERY WARM ROOM, AND NICE VIEW OF MAIN STREET, BRILLIANT SHOWER.

TOP OF WARDROPE AND THE SHELVE AROUND WINDOW COULD HAVE DONE WITH A CLEAN.

We liked the traditional feel of the hotel, and its very convenient central location.

The bed was a little uncomfortable.

Hotel needs an upgrade and makeover, small room, tortuous corridors and narrow passages.

Very interesting hotel and the facilities were great, supper breakfast in good surroundings." (97346023)

Bathroom smelled as it had not been aired, we had to open the bedroom window and run the bathroom fan. The bed was small and rock hard and lumpy. The decor was dated and shabby.

"The hotel is in an old building, and from the front it can clearly be seen that it had settled substantially over the years and is now at a slope. This was quite interesting, such that the bedroom floor also had a slight slope. It all added to the general charm of the place. The communal sitting rooms, like the whole hotel really, were traditional and pleasant, rather than luxury. The staff were pleasant, down to earth and not intrusive. The atmosphere was one of calm, with the staff going about their business in a quiet, calm manner, rather than a busy, busy, place. Nice! There were various passages to get to the different parts of the hotel, but these were soon mastered and the various areas, such as the breakfast room, were fully sign-posted. Also, it was well located and easy to find. The was very limited parking at the hotel, but parking was available outside for limited periods, with futher low-cost parking a couple of streets away (next to the cinema). The sign in the 'next to the cinema' car park was not as clear as I would have wanted. To me it looked free, according to my reading of the sign, but it was chargable. Which I learnt after finding a £10 penality charge on my windscreen! Still, all in all, adequate and pleasant and if I was in the same place again, I would re-book without hesitation." (99884351)

The room was clean, large, pleasant and comfortable. The shower was a large cubical and the power shower was nice. The staff were friendly but not intrusive.

    The lack of parking!

"Overall the 2 night stay was very good. However thought the room rate was over priced. Did not personally class this room as a Deluxe. No complimentary toiletries and the bathroom dressing area could have been better utilised." (99768970)

Plenty of amenties on hand. Bistro, lounge bar. Food excellent during breakfast and in the Bistro. Sleigh bed very comfortable.

No air con. no double glazing. Quite noisy. No parking facilities even though stated car park for 5/6 cars. This was on a first come first serve basis and having to leave your car keys at reception. Had to move the car before and after breakfast to different locations due to traffic warden, thus not a relaxing morning. The rooms on our floor including ours were on a slant, the bedroom floor was sloping?

The position of the hotel was perfect to explore the town and sea front.

One or two areas of the hotel needed upgrading.

  • 8/10 Sheila (Other)

from Blandford forum , GB on  May 9, 2007

"Overall we were very comfortable. Having an excellent restaurant as part of the hotel was a bonus and we enjoyed our stay all the more because of it. It was unfortunate that on our first night the toilet in the room we had booked 'broke' and we were down-graded. The taps in the basin of room 9 were a bit loose. However, these are minor complaints and your staff were very pleasant and most helpful." (99050851)

It was clean and tidy and kept that way by staff.

The bed was a bit hard and as I was staying with my sister we would have preferred single beds, as requested. However, it didn't spoil our stay as we enjoyed seeing each other for the first time in 2 years and meeting up with my son and his girlfriend who are living in Aberystwyth.

Excellent breakfast and bistro. Good location. Friendly staff. Excellent shower in bathroom.

One day the room was not serviced. Beam in bedroom (no.7) had flaking paint.

Good location, near to town centre.

Lack of parking, poor cleaniless in room & breakfast doesn't start until 8.00am on weekdays - not really practical to the business user.

allows dogs; we experienced one which barked all night and management did nothing to stop. Dog's owners had a screaming row from 1am to 3.30am, swearing and shouting. Staff not interested.

    from Norwich , United Kingdom;GB on  March 12, 2007

"A lovely hotel right in the centre of Aberystwyth. A combination of two old properties gives it an air of quaint discovery as you traverse up and down stairs to get to your room. The single room I had was comfortable and contained it's own ensuite shower and toilet... the shower was excellent... powerful and hot! The room gave me a quiet and undisturbed nights sleep apart from the somewhat hard bed, for my taste, and the early morning call from the hundreds of seagulls that seemed to be fighting right outside my window at 6am! Breakfast was excellent and plentiful with a very good selection of choices, hot or cold. I had a meal at the bistro within the hotel the evening before.. and can highly recomend it! Superb food very reasonably priced. Overall a very nice, if short, stay! Good value for money and I would stay again!" (99841811)

It was clean and nicely decorated and furnished... the staff were helpful and friendly. Plenty of tea and sugar and milk provided in the room to make a drink if wanted - something I find usually lacking in other more expensive hotels.

The single bed was too hard, the pillows somewhat thin and lacking in head support, having seen better days I think!

  • 9/10 Stephen (Group of adult friends)

    from Dudley , United Kingdom;GB on  February 28, 2007

"I booked the hotel with my elderly parents, to visit my son who is at University in Aberystwyth. The only downside was having rooms at the very top of the hotel, and if had known about this possibility when booking would have requested a ground floor room for my parents. The hotel is in an ideal location and is excellent value for money. The well cooked and very tasty breakfast was a wonderful start to the day. Will definitely book again for future visits." (99172282)

Very comfortable, clean rooms with excellent shower. Great central location in the heart of Aberystwyth within easy walking distance of the shopping area.

  • 6/10 Anthony (Mature couple)

    from Harrogate , United Kingdom;GB on  February 15, 2007

"Our room door looked as though it had been hit by a vandal and though it was repaired it had not been re-painted which didn't give a good first impression. The bed spread was stained, the ceiling is in need of coat of paint, the curtains were poorly hung and a drawer front was hanging off the wardrobe. Overall it felt as though it needed a bit of TLC - I'm sure a couple of days concentrated on the room, cleaning and repairing and a new bedcover if cleaning didn't work, would work wonders. The smell in the corridors really does need dealing with - there was a strong cigarette smell in reception / bar area and very stale cooking smells through rest of ground floor - I would have had to have bought an air freshener if staying more than one night, it was SO offputting." (99058508)

Convenient location; excellent restaurant and breakfast; friendly staff; good shower

Although the rooms had obviously been nicely set up, this was some time ago and our room was looking tired. The smell in the corridors!

It's close to the town centre and the railway station. It's a pleasant, clean hotel. The breakfast was excellent and next time we intend to try Harry's Bistro." (99928159)

Convenience for purposes of my stay. Good restuarant and breakfast facilities.

Shortage of light, by which to read. Three lamps in my room gave inadequate light for reading.

I think the hotel would benefit greatly from a lift." (99883340)
