"Had a very fine treat staying there. " (107204216)

It's a beautiful place and it is very well run, if one can judge from one night's stay. My one beef is that a boutique hotel in the Highlands is always going to yank one back to the metropolis, as a majority of the clients there are city types who travel with their city gear. My bedroom reflected this. Not a typical Highland experience. But good local cuisine.

"Enjoyed our stay but the hotel has recently changed ownership and the new owners have not yet got all the facilities and staff in place yet. Would stay again however." (99357894)

    Comfortable, clean, friendly staff

Meals rather average and a little expensive

    Nice hotel

Food in the hotel was not so good.

Beautiful setting, lovely public rooms, great dinner and wines in the evening

Extremely small room for the price, terrible cooked breakfast

"The staff were nice and friendly - but standard of service was poor. Clearing tables or offering refills of coffee after dinner was poor. The food was nice but portions were small." (3304658920)

    Nice building in good surroundings

Weary decor in the room we had. The cleaner could do a bit more.

"Overall, it's a fairly good hotel. Rooms are nice and setting is stunning. Noise level when trying to sleep is rather high (bring earplugs!), and if you're planning a romantic evening, be aware that your activities will be overheard by other guests and staff. Food was great, and the dining experience enjoyable. Additionally, if you do not have your own transportation, I would recommend booking taxi's or tour guides ahead of time (at least 2 days) as the hotel is rather remote." (3304751577)

The setting of the hotel was beautiful.

The noise level was a bit high. We heard EVERYTHING in the rooms next to us (and throughout the hotel), including showers, use of bathrooms, etc.

"I'm so glad we arrived fairly early in the afternoon. To drive here late at night would be such a waste because of the beauty of the location and the wonderful staff. My daughter and I travelled for 10 days in Scotland, and this hotel was the highlight of our trip! The food was excellent and elegantly presented." (3304686219)

The staff could not have been nicer. The room was extraordinary, everyting was in working order and the view was outstanding! Thank you!

"We enjoyed our stay very much. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was good and was promptly served but same soup two nights in succession. Scallops unavailable on either of these nights. It would have been appreciated if staff had offered to refill coffee cups without being asked, both at breakfast and after dinner. Lounge area very comfortable" (2675874)

Very comfortable room with large en-suite bathroom

Light in walk-in cupboard not working on arrival and hotel did not have a spare bulb on premises. Fixed promptly one day later

"We spent a little over a week travelling in Scotland, half of which was in the Highlands and islands. This hotel was the most expensive of our trip, but overall did not offer any additional value relative to the others." (2669467)

beautiful location, stately building, excellent meals

    Staff relatively unfriendly, mattress uncomfortable

Loved the cozy sitting areas with the fireplace to enjoy after dinner coffee or read a book

The restaurant was a little slow with it's service. We waited quite a while for meals and even drinks. Portions were not very large for the price.

"The choice of rooms when I booked the hotel was almost non existant which turned out not to be the case, so more accurate information would be appreciated as we almost did not book. However the hotel was superb. I would have liked to know whether there was showers over baths or stand alone showers. More detail on actual room booked as there is no such thing as a typical room in these old hotels." (2417704)

Excellent staff, excellent food, excellent location

    Greater vegetarian choice on menu

"All I can say is I would go again. My wife who is usually the more critical loved it." (1836514)

A very warm and friendly Hotel. Grub was excellent and unpretentious. Service very warm and friendly. If there were any problems they were sorted.

The one down side was that the mattresses of the beds were somewhat hard. Need to be thicker and a bit softer.

"we would have liked to have known that a touring coach party was due to stay at the same time. this caused our eating times to be put back on two evenings and made using facilities, eg the lounge, a little difficult. fortunately these inconveniences were mostly offset by the attentiveness of the staff, who acknowledged this and really made a great effort to compensate." (1587133)

large spacious and well appointed room with breathtaking view. very friendly and attentive staff.

"Very relaxing. Proprietor very friendly and helpful. The hotel is due for modernization and it will benefit from such process tremendously. Needs updating especially in respect of bathrooms and showers also, could do with a business centre. More staff would be helpful also, plus a revamped bar. would nonetheless recommend hotel to friends." (1499586)

Hotel was in good location and proprietor very helpful and friendly.

Hotel in need of refurbishment and modernisation. More staff required also.
