"Great location otherwise very average." (97768577)
Lovely reception rooms, foyer.
Very small room, more to premier inn standard, except rooms are smaller, than a 4 star hotel. TV only had a small number of free channel, plus £10 films. We asked for a quite room and on the Saturday it was noisy till 2am with base from the club next door. All prices for room service was set more to 5* price than 4 star and bar the reception room it is not 4*

"hotel was very nice and with just a few extra things i would stay again, it was not what i was expecting and the website is very misleading about the rooms. i felt for the money i was spending i should have gotten alot more." (97740358)
when checking in the staff were very pleasant and helpful, the decor in the room was very nice and the location couldnt be better. very clen and the bathroom was lovely.
staff on night shift were very rude and unhelpful and when ordering room service very abrupt and rude again! room was extremely small and only just had room to walk around the bed, not enough space for luggage etc. shower pressure was incredible low. floor boards outside room and on the way to reception were very loud and felt as though you could fall through them! very poor quality for money.

"I loved the room itself (barring the view from the window of the building site)and the hotel was in a fantastic location. However, I was disappointed that during our stay the fire alarm went off on both mornings. 8am on Sat and 10.30am on Sunday. We have young children and as this was our first weekend alone in 5years, we had been looking forward to a nights uniterrupted sleep and a lie in. I was aslo a bit disappointed at the cost of extras and the restaurant - it was very expensive and I felt the food did not justify the cost." (97812934)
The room itself was lovely. Large bed-lovely chocolates and biscuits to welcome our arrival
It overlooked a building site. We had to keep our curtains closed as builders could see in the window - they were almost onthe same level as us.

Position
They did not let us into our room until 15.30 and, despite the fact that we were going to a wedding and needed to change, they would not help us. The lifts were not working properly and at only two, were inadequate for the size of the hotel.

The size and atmosphere of the room was wonderful.
When I asked that the TV services be upgraded, they wern't, and I was informed that although they were upgraded at the desk, it hadn't come through to the room. I was also informed that nothing could be done as there were no maintenence staff were available.

"Excellent visit. Brilliant location as shops, restaurants & bars all within walking distance. Breakfast was buffet style with lots of choices - only downfall we had to queue before being seated in dining room. All staff were very polite, friendly, helpful & displayed excellent customer service skills. I would certainly stay at The George again. Thank you to all staff at The George for making my visit so relaxing." (97106136)
The double room was spacious & clean. The bed appeared bigger than kingsize & very comfortable.
Could not get music channel on TV

"Room was not ready when we arrived. We came back later and due to miscommunication amongst the staff we were informed that room was still not ready. Our room was on the small side, although the accomodation was quite tasteful and all fittings were new. Overall I would have expected a higher standard of staff and general hotel accomodation for the price." (97293243)

"ONE THING THAT STOOD OUT WAS THE FIRENDLINESS OF THE STAFF, THEY WERE EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL AND ALL WERE VERY SMART FROM THE WAITING ON STAFF AT BREAKFAST THROUGH TO THE RECEPTIONISTS AND CONCIERGE. WE LIKED THE WAY THE BREAKFAST STAFF CONDUCTED THEMSELVES, IE; ALWAYS ON HAND TO TAKE USED PLATES AWAY, NOT LEFT ON YOUR TABLE ETC. I ONLY HAVE ONE VERY MINOR CRITICISM AND THAT WAS THE TOAST IN THE MORNING WASN'T TOAST, IT WAS WARMED UP BREAD, OTHER THAN THAT IT WAS PERFECT, AND WE ARE PLANNING TO COME AND STAY AGAIN AT YOUR HOTEL EARLY NEXT YEAR." "Overall, a fabulous location, a very grown-up and smooth-running hotel where everything was handled with ease: excellent facilities and bar and restaurant superb. We have stayed at many luxury hotels in the UK and abroad and this was certainly in our top 10." (97051044)
We liked the space and opulence of our room and the bed was supremely comfortable as well as super-sized. The facilities were excellent, and the Tempus bar where we ate with our son who has just started at the university impressed him as well as the Tempus bar.
Not much in reality, the bathroom was a little cramped and the lighting a little poor for serious reading or map-reading but apart from that, a lovely break.

"I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The room was tidy and the service friendly.I tried the room service which was very quick and efficient but a little on the expensive side. The bed was nice and comfortable, and both my partner and myself had an excellent nights rest. The 12 o clock check out time also means you dont have to rush about in the morning and have plenty of time to get ready for the day ahead." (97223305)

The recycle station behind the hotel that was used by a restaurant that was close to the hotel. Loud noises at 11.30 and 3.00 a.m. all 3 nights we where there.

"The location of The George is second to none for a shopping trip to Edinburgh. The overall standard of the hotel's facilities was excellent and the staff were exceptionally attentive and friendly." (97004509)
Pretty much everything!
One minor point - the rooms were rather warm and there was no air conditioning. I opened my window but that proved quite noisy as it overlooked George Street. I also wasn't able to close the window again.

The location was great. Nice foyer with comfy chairs to hang out or order some tea and cookies. Room was clean, spacious and staff was very nice and helpful.
The staff was a little sub par in dining room at breakfast and eggs were kind of funky. Registration desk staff not as nice as rest but ok.

"I found the hotel room very satisfactory. Unfortunately, it took four attempts to get to it (I was first given wrong room number, then keycard didn't work, then original room was found to be already occupied). If you have a half hour to spare and you're prepared for a bit of check-in aggravation, the hotel is very nice and an ideal location for seeing the sights. Unfortunately, the staff don't seem very organised or knowledgeable about their own facilities." (99423853)
The room was comfortable and the hotel location was ideal.
The staff seemed disorganised and not to communicate with each other.

"Good - The hotel itself is in a fantastic location and has a wonderful bar and restaurant. All of the staff are extremely pleasant and the rooms are beautiful. Had a few champagne cocktails in the bar on the evening and the bar staff were very friendly. I'm that impressed with the standard of the hotel and it's location that I'm taking my boyfriend there for his birthday (the shopping package looks fab!). Bad - Parking was awful! I knew that there was no car park before I went but I thought we'd at least be able to check in first,we nearly got a ticket when we parked outside to check in and the traffic can be bedlam. Then having to go to an NCP car park in town was a bit of a pain as well as when we left we had to pick the car up and try to park outside again to collect our luggage. NCP car park at St James shopping centre was cheap though (only £7 for 24 hours). Everything else was fantastic!" (99245326)
Very clean, quiet, and comfortable. Friendly staff.
The bathroom was a bit small for my liking. Parking was a nightmare.

Close to the centre of Edinburgh
The room was very hot. Due to lots of noise (yelling of patrons exiting bars, etc.)opening the window was not a option. This noise situation is of course beyond anyone's control. Air conditioning would have been an asset.

"This is a first-class establishment. All details in the promotional literature are totally accurate. It's certainly one of the very best hotels in Edinburgh. The staff work relentlessly to ensure your stay is memorable. The food and wine is consistently of the highest standard. It's so rare to find a place where nothing is at fault. Superb experience from start to finish. We will definately return." (97342264)
Fantastic location directly behind Princess Street; stunning interiors and sense of luxury throughout; excellent cocktail bar and superb restaurant; five minute walk from Waverly Station;
There is nothing to dislike about The George!
