"The breakfast : Service was very slow. Tinned fruit, small plate for the full English breakfast and only one rasher of bacon. The fruit juice was made from concentrate. It was an overpriced hotel. Had it been £80 to £90 a night I would not have been making these comments, but at £115 it was not up to standard." (97451960)

There was nothing about it worth commenting on. It was clean and the bed was comfortable.

The room was small (The bathroom was large by comparison but the Jacuzzi didn't work). Only 5 terrestrial channels on TV + one Italian channel by satellite - no radio.

"Would not recommend,am sure better hotels avail, but we were in a hurry and had to book a certain date. Very overpriced for quality of hotel. Location on main road not good. All family rooms at front of hotel nearest the road so very noisy, traffic all night. Very hot. Would rather have paid another £40 and stayed in luxury in 5 star." (107273303)

    Clean room. Good bathroom

On main road into Cambridge, noisy. Breakfast was average.Food in restaurant good but expensive, they were getting ready for an event next evening so band members setting equipment etc. this did not make for a nice dining experience.Heavy doors slamming as guests came in late at night.

Restaurant not available due to private function. Were offered barbecue in garden, but as we'd been outside all day, eating burgers at an airshow we wanted to sit down in the warm! Overpriced for standard of accommodation. The cooked breakfast was tiny.

good value, close to bus stop. Room a reasonable size, breakfast OK

room was very close to road and hotel foyer therefore noisy. Also noise from upstairs.

The hotel is quite a distance from town and was really quite expensive for what it was.

Clean and simple hotel with what I needed, not more, not less.

The room was a little too outworn, it felt like walking into a room from the 60ies.

"Remember NO meals served Sunday Evening!!!!" (99244105)

Hotel is clean, and the common areas spacious. Very very quiet even though the hotel was fully booked. Plentiful off-road parking at the rear. Room was clean and well decorated. Food was excellent, and good value for money. 3 course meal - £17.50, Guinness £2.70/pint. Quick service despite also having approx 30 spanish guests for dinner.

Shower room was very small, could heardly shower. No shelving in shower to place shampoo etc, everything had to be placed in the sink during showering!. Also the TV had limited channels and poor reception. Woken at 5am by other early morning calls, i think the phones are set at 90db!! Totally unnecessary in today's world where everyone has a mobile phone including Alarm function. Also water pipes very noisy when others taking baths etc.

"The hotel is small and friendly being family run. There were no problems with parking. The restaurant was excellent with freshly prepared evening meals to order at an acceptable price. Breakfasts were individually prepared. Unfortunately the hotel is not within walking distance of the city centre but the hotel was happy to book taxis for us." (99563614)

We were given the Bridal Suite so had the opportunity to use the jacuzzi and sauna. Unfortunately we didn't have the time. The Kingsize bed was very comfortable.

The space around the king size bed was a little narrow but worth it in order to have the larger bed.

The staff was very helpful and atmosphere very nice. This compensates the other defects very well. The location was good 10 minutes from the city centre. Walkable even with young children. The breakfast was excellent and included in the room rate.

The room was a bit worn. Some lights were not working and matresses were very uncomfortable.

Size of room, smokey and musky smell of room. The fact that my room looked out on to a pavement. No instructionds on how to use the safe. The fact that as soon as I left my room I am in the hotel lobby.

The room was clean. Location - close to Cambridge entre.

The single room accommodation was very small and not of a particularily high standard. The bathroom was also small only providing a sit-in bath and a shower that provided not much more than a trickle of luke warm water!!

The hotel was clean and ideal for a night or two stop over with a great pub next door if you don't want to venture into the city center.

I would not say it was a dislike or that it put me off the hotel in any way and i would gladly stay there again if in the are but the shower could do with an upgrade.

My answers are according to my experiance of any other 3* hotels in other countries I visit during my 35 years of business travelling. The bed was over expectation. Slept god the first night. Room was clean and bathroom OK, except the shower where the water pressure in shower was close to zero. TV worked but not the phone/radio combination. Clock and radio did not work properly and was not possible to adjust. More TV-channels is to prefer if staying longer time. One of my mates had problem with TV not working properly. Breakfast was very good and had more than enough selections for my personal taste. Nice and friendly people in the hotel staff. Price was as agreed at the internet booking. Car parking = OK.

Only the water pressure during shower. Otherwise nothing in particular.

    from Christchurch , United Kingdom;GB  on  July 12, 2006

"The Sorrento is a well managed hotel, immaculately clean with an excellent air-conditioned restaurant and very helpful staff. My single room was located near the corner of the very busy Cherry Hinton Road and Blinco Grove, directly opposite 'The Rock' pub during a very hot and humid summer period. The traffic and pub related noise was very high even with windows closed (no air-con in any rooms). However, the following morning I asked reception whether any alternative rooms were available away from the road, and although the hotel was full, they reorganised and upgraded my single to a quiet Executive double room at no extra charge - a level of service many five-star hotels fail to provide. So, when booking ask for a room at the rear of the hotel and you will enjoy a clean and comfortable stay at the Sorrento." (3304878525)

Helpful staff, very clean well equipped rooms and excellent food.

Road noise at front and busy football-themed pub adjacent.

"The Hotel Sorrento is far better than it appears to be on the website or on first seeing itfrom the outside. The interior is of a very good quality, the staff are excellent and I was particularly inmpressed by the individual service of breakfast. Too many other hotels provide a serve yourself breakfast with cold and congealed food. This was certainly not the case at the Sorrento. I have been visiting Cambridge for 2 years and regret that I did not find the Sorrento earlier. I will certainly use it again over the next 12 months." (3304577886)

Tiny problems: Hotel telephone number missing from online info (in case of en route delays; Slightly wrong directions: (a) - name associated with Peugot corner into Cherry Hinton Road was not displayed...only Peugot but this indication is decisive. (b) M11: J 11 easier than J 12" (3304559049)

The staff, chef, housekeepers, and family that owns the hotel were very friendly and courteous. All employees of this hotel went out of their way to make our stay pleasant.

A small microwave in the room, a working CD/DVD player, and a working alarm clock would have been nice. A light was out over the sink in our room.

The bathroom was very clean and modern but there was no plug in the sink. Many curtain hooks were missing, making the closing of these difficult and ineffective against the morning sun." (2661755)

I liked the location althoughfurther from the statin than I thought. The staff were exceptionally efficient, polite and helpful. The hotel restaurant was a surprise; the varied choice, quality, quantity and presentation of the food surpassed my expectations.

"The hotel is very close to the site for the Cambrdige Folk Festival and over the weekend most if not all of the guests were attending the festival. The communal areras of the hotel were attractive and the breakfast quality was adequate, with friendly service, but the room was small and shabby. I had stayed once before and been assigned the same room, which was adequate for one person. For two people it was cramped. The hotel had confirmed an executive double and tryed to charge for this. The recptionist did not know whether room 306 was an exceutive double or not, but they discounted to a normal double rate. I consider that at £99.00 per night for two including breakfast, the normal double rack rate, the room was far from a bargain." (1803306)

The breakfast was ok and the nreakfast staff were friendly.

Room was tiny and overpriced. Check in proecdure was poor. I got the distinct impression we had been assigned a different room but that we were palmed off. At the end we were charged for an exceutive double, and the price was discounted by 10 percent. At £99 per night, discounted rate, for bed and breakfast for two, it was still a high price for very basic, slghtly shabby accomodation.
