"Was not what web-site led you to belive at all." (107411337)

Nice hotel dining room and lounge.

No car park. Had to use close by public car park which was £2.50 per day ending at 8.00 am so have to pay twice to overnight stay. Room clean but somewhat in need of updating, had a very 'worn' feeling to it. Gardens now a building site!

  • 8/10 Anonymous ( Mature couple)

    Room was clean.

Room was on the third floor with no lift so carrying the luggage up the stairs was difficult. Had to carry the luggage from car pak and had to park overnight in council car park round the corner.

"Enjoyable stay, the building site did spoil the visit, absolutely no sleep after 7am,terrible noise bang on 7am, it was relentless, complaining did nothing at all, Hotel management kept promising to speak to builders, noise never stopped." (107108393)

Reasonable accomodation, stayed in newish annex at end of garden, very well located near centre in a good part of town.Near train and bus stations, about 5 minute walk.

Building site on two sides of the hotel. Woken every morning at 7am without fail.spoiled what was a very enjoyable visit.

"Fine for somewhere to arrive, sleep the night and leave." (108024018)

    convenient location, clean.

very tatty. Ripped blind in bathroom, hole in wall, stain on bedcover. King Size bed was two singles pushed together so had gap in middle. Too many scented room fresheners.

"Adequate, but I was glad not to be staying more than one night." (108056076)

Central location. Clean sheets and towels.

Welcome brusque; apparently only interested in swiping my credit card. I was given the impression that getting breakfast before 8am would be something of a privilege, though when I got there at 7.30 the dining room was quite busy. Bedroom cramped for space (bathroom spacious by comparison!) Also a lot of noise from the street outside, and closing the window (behind the bedhead) required considerable exertion.

The hotel was in a good location. Out room overlooked a lovely garden. The breakfast was lovely and the staff very friendly. The room was very clean, with a large bathroom and large walk in shower

The televison was far too high on the wall almost on the ceiling, and one bedside lamp did not work.

"Adequate but would not stay again as we felt it was not value for money." (97785840)

Pleasant staff, ideally situated within Shrewsbury centre, not too loud or busy.

Room was on the small side, we feel that £160 for 2 nights was expensive for what we got for that money. The room was clean and tidy but there was some obvious subsidence of the buidling (although this may be characteristic of many old buildings within the town), particularly in the en suite.

Central location. Comfortable accommodation. As a nicotine addict, the balcony outside the room where I could have a cigarette!

Very little - except maybe the burnt toast at breakfast.

"There are other places in Shrewsbury that are competitive in price, where you will get service with a smile. In this business a smile is not too much to ask for and doesn't cost the owner a penny to introduce." (97632373)

The Hotel was close to town and provided for our basic needs.

The staff were nothing but grumpy. I was offered eggs as a veggie alternative. This is in the day when veggie sausages are available in all supermarkets.

    Proximity to town centre

  • 4/10 Anonymous ( Mature couple)

"Anyone booking should be under no illusions that this is a hotel, it is an expensive B&B. The reception was non-existent and we were pointed to our room on the top floor, the owner being more interested in telling us his card reader was broken. The over-powering smell of air freshner pervades the building - what is it hiding? The dining room is small and very cramped for the number of guests and the cooked breakfast on every day was very greasy. The one ray of sunshine was when the wife took over as 'front of house', sadly on the day we left. The pictures of the web site show the annex, implying it is a more modern facility than it actually is." (99618495)

The Sandford is close to the centre of town. The room was large and being at the back of the building was reasonable quiet at night, important as there is a take away next door and a large pub opposite.

Poor lighting in the room, shower with curtain and no bath. TV reception poor (no central ariel), lack of trouser hangers. There is a pressing need to look at the light fittings.

"I would have liked to have know the size of the room, and the layout inside the hotel. For the price paid I would have expected a TV with a proper arial rather then a poor set top one. Also a telly that wasn't on top ot the wardrobe would have been nice." (99823404)

The service at breakfast was plesent

I felt that the accomodation was too expensive for what you got

  • 8/10 Anonymous ( Young couple)

"Our stay was very pleasant. My husband thought it was highly priced for what it was, but it was very clean and tidy and the bathroom was of a good standard. Breakfast was served in a nice bright dinning room and the food was of good quality and plenty of it. There is no parking at the hotel but you can park at a near buy car park for a small price. Overall if you are requiring a one night stay it is OK." (99468415)

The accommodation was very clean, and breakast was wonderful.

The hotel could have done with a bit more atmosphere, and a lot less of the air freshner sprays which could be a bit overpowering. It would have been wonderful if the hotel room window had opened to let some fresh air in.

The breakfast service was excellent and staff were helpful

The bathroom needs modernising, and the lack of free parking was very unhelpful

"The hotel is in a small side street in the town. We had to park in a nearby pay-and-display carpark. There was no bar at the hotel, and the breakfast slot was one hour only - 9.30 till 10.30, although the breakfast itself was nice." (3304567635)

The two rooms we booked for ourselves and our children were adjacent as requested, and were comfortable and clean.

The double room was tiny - possibly the smallest double room I have ever seen.

The only downside would be for those who have difficulty walking up and down the steep streets and footpaths of the town. In spite of that, the hotel is highly recommended." (2665947)

"I enjoyed my stay at this smart little establishment in the centre of Shrewsbury. I stayed in a twin room on the second floor, accessed via a lovely winding staircase. The room was small but well appointed and very clean, with shower en suite. The creaky floorboards may irritate some but personally I find that sort of thing charming. It was like staying at a friend's big smart townhouse. Whilst I did not drive, I noticed that parking was in a nearby public car park, with a small drop-off area outside the front door." (2651169)

    Homely feel. Cleanliness.

    Offer a morning newspaper.

"A very conveniently located hotel for exploring the centre of Shrewsbury. The owners and staff were friendly without being too obtrusive. Everything was clean and well presented. Had two very enjoyable cooked breakfasts. Only concerns were lack of on-site parking,(although as first guests to arrive on first day of visit the owner allowed us to park on the one space available on their drive), and only a shower in room not a bath. Would certainly recommend it to anyone visiting Shrewsbury for a short break or an overnight stay." (2436747)

Very clean. Excellent breakfast. Welcoming staff.

Only had a shower in room would prefer a bath.

  • 6/10 Anonymous ( Young couple)

"Very thin walls so any children in rooms opposite and adjacent can be heard crying! Ensuite double room, fair size. Bathroom clean - avoid using lavatory in the night as flush system extremely loud and will wake everyone on the landing! Ensure you know what you want for breakfast and keep it brief in order to avoid the wrath of staff! The B&B does provide a lounge area and tourist information. A very comfy bed - credit where it's due." (2584436)

Located in town centre, pay and display parking available, walking distance to range of shops and restaurants.

It would be nice if we were greeted good morning at breakfast, as opposed to what do you want?
