    My room was upgraded

very noisy fan in the bathroom, building work taking place at the rear of the hotel woke me up at 7.30 am !Not much atmosphere in the bar/lounge area needed a tv or music

  • 7/10 Andrew ( Solo business traveller)

from Manchester , GB  on  August 26, 2008

"Recommended. I would have no hesitation in staying here again. It is particularly convenient if you are using public transport as it is just a short hop into the city on a frequent bus service. " (107257190)

Comfortable room. Easy access. Polite friendly staff. Good range at breakfast.

"ok. Didn't know hotel is due to close in January until after booked it. Would explain why it has been allowed to become so tatty and why gardens are now a building site for new houses." (97019022)

It was a clean hotel. Bar service and morning breakfast were very good. Helpful details of bus times into the city centre given on arrival.

The Hotel was run down and looked very tatty. No smiles or 'friendlyness' at all from any of the staff.

"OK, nice hotel but update the rooms a bit, splash out on some new furnishings" (108024236)

New kettles are not very expensive (the one in my room looked 30 years old), Perhaps a new shower curtain and deffinately some new pillows (Felt like I was sleeping on a bag on marble)

  • 7/10 Mary h ( Mature couple)

    from Drumnadrochit, inverness-shire , GB  on  June 21, 2008

"We have stayed here before, one of reasons parking and distance from event which we were attending, however since last stay parking has been reduced because of building in hotel gardens." (97129927)

Staff were very friendly and service good. The food in the evening and the breakfast were both very good quality

Rooms decor is very tired and requires updating. Room was very hot and uncomfortable for sleeping, staff said heating had been turned off but warm night and room at top of building.

" a pleasant hotel - a pity it is about to close." (97867439)

a comfortable hotel, if a little shabby. Very pleasant, willing staff.

  • 7/10 Alan ( Solo leisure traveller)

from Huntly. , GB  on  May 27, 2008

"A very nice looking Hotel in a quiet location. As i said above, i assume the reason for the rotting window frames and torn carpets not being replaced is because the Hotel is closing. Food was very good, and the staff were excellent." (97643491)

Easy access to local area. Quiet location.

Room was a bit shabby, assumed this is because the Hotel is closing at end of year?

  • 8/10 Anonymous ( Mature couple)

large room which was very light n bright. Nice furniture and plenty of space.

Room had two very small radiators which struggled to heat the room. Bed only had a light cover and no duvet , so was cold overnight. Also had to use spare blanket on bed from in walk in cupboard

  • 9/10 Sheila ( Mature couple)

from Nr skipton , GB  on  February 19, 2008

"This is the second time we have stayed here, due to its location, it is close enough to walk into Edinburgh and there is a regular bus service five minutes walk away. The food that we had was in the bar and it was excellent, there is always someone available 24 hrs should you need them, and all the staff are cheerful and cannot do enough to help." (97032972)

It is a welcoming hotel although slightly out of Edinburgh there is a good bus route if you do not want to drive. The rooms are comfortable, and the reception, Bar and lounge area and restaurant were very pleasant- The Evening Food was very good

The bathrooms look tired and in need of refurbishment. The breakfasts being buffet are a bit hit and miss with the heat of the food- If you get there when the trays have just been filled everything is spot on

"Hotel staff were very friendly and pleasant to deal with. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable and was within easy distance, by car, of Edinburgh airport. The hotel would benefit from some general upgrading - the carpets were worn in some places and the wallpaper was peeling etc.- but it met our needs as an overnight place to stay." (97863507)

    Accommodation was comfortable and clean

"Very good position, far enough away from the city to be quiet but close enough that it is in walking distance or a very inexpensive taxi or bus ride. The restuarant breakfasts were always exceptional and both of being vegetarians did not go hungry. We will definately stay here again and would have no problems recommending the hotel to anyone." (97451459)

The room was warm and very comfortable. Restuarant was excellent.

  • 7/10 J l ( Mature couple)

The Hotel is comfortable throughout and the staff are friendly and efficient

The impression that the premises need serious attention to the state of the decorations - a sense of allowing the condition to become run down. Also I noted a few high-level cobwebs!

  • 8/10 Rodney ( Solo business traveller)

    Convenience to City Centre

Bad condition of room: peeling wall paper, stained walls, old bathroom not smelling good. Hotel generally needs a revamp.

"This is OK just for a sleep over stay. Not much going on in the hotel for the guest's. Poor bar staff after 11pm. First day breakfast was great then the service went down hill from there on." (99779091)

    The rooms are good.

Re-arange the room so there more room on both sides of the bed.

  • 7/10 Heather ( Group of adult friends)

from Apo , US  on  July 6, 2007

"When we showed up in the room the floors were sqeaky, the room we stayed in had 2 twin beds opushed together to make a double bed, the tub was old and stained and when you went to take a shower the drain was slow so you had water up to your ankles. The furniture in the hotel was old and worn, not much updating to the furniture. The beds were hard and the pillows were flat. You could also hear the other guests walk in the halls and the doors slammed." (99445133)

The area around the hotel was nice and quite. Far enough away from the city not to hear the noice and close enough to the city for easy access.

"Close to the airport. The staff is friendly and helpful, but the rooms are worn and drab." (99601516)

The staff is super....very helpful and coperative. They make up for the drab surroudings

This hotel a seen better times. It is shabby and the floors on the upper floors are saggging in parts. Only the dining room has been refurbished. The linens were rough and there was a smell of mildew.

We found breakfast times during the week days a bit inconvenient

  • 4/10 Robert ( Mature couple)

The hotel was located in a quiet area.

The used sanitary towel wedged behind the wash hand basin pipework. The toilet seat was loose. The shower was loose on the wall.

ROOM WAS TATTY, WALLPAPER PEELING OFF DUE TO DAMP PATCHES AND OTHER BITS RIPPED OFF, BATH BADLY STAINED & NEEDED REPLACING.

Public rooms were great !!Breakfast very good apart from oily/greasy fried egg,but aren't they always !? Short walk to bus stop to get to city centre in <10 min..Staff plesant and very helpful.

Small room, cramped and a bit tired. No fridge, pay to view movies far too expensive.Chippie near bus stop...good for everything except fish and chips !

We booked last minute and we given a Suite in the Hotel which was brilliant. The room was clean and well-furnished and had a CD Player and excellent tea and coffee making facilities. The breafast had a good selection of hot and cold food. Overall I was very happy with the hotel and would definately stay again.

"If Festival hotels could spend a little money on the hotel it would be excellent. The bathroom was clean overall but the bath was old and there were permanent stains and the wallpaper was peeling. However I would say that the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff overuled all niggly issues and the food was excellent. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for good value for money." (99301256)

The staff were extremely helpful and offered to help on area related questions, Food was excellent.

The room was tired looking and cold (windows had been left wide open)

  • 7/10 Edward ( Group of adult friends)

from Cleethorpes , GB  on  March 21, 2007

"The hotel had a tired look and feel about it and was in need of some refurbishment. The staff were friendly and I had no complaints in that department. The meals were nice and hot and a good assortment for breakfast. I personally would stop here again if traveling as a single person or group of friends on a weekend away, I would however stay elsewhere if traveling with my wife. Basically the decor let the hotel down." (99931139)

Easy booking in process, rooms were ready, nice breakfast and nice bar meal.

The wallpaper was coming off in my room(21)and I felt that the rooms were dark and in need of a coat of white paint.

Reception did advise that I could have switched rooms if I had advised them. However after unpacking, the last thing you want to do is move." (99274366)

"Nice location well furnished rooms & public areas. Rang previous day to say we would not arrive until 10 pm but no mention was made that we would be unable to get anything to eat. Was directed to local fish & chip shop by Recepionist - not ideal after a long day! There was some filming going on in the grounds and upon completion the doors of the bar were left wide open on a freezing cold night for the equipment to be bought through with guests left sitting in the cold well after the work was finished. Resulted in an early night for those customers who had hoped to enjoy a relaxing evening drink." (3305112054)

    Spacious well furnished Bedroom

Bed broken on arrival but fixed quickly. First morning shower went off completely leaving me with a head full of shampoo & no water

The cooked breakfast was also poor: the mushrooms and egg were dried up, the tomatoes tasteless. However, the staff were helpful and friendly." (99396653)

    Room dingy. Cooked breakfast poor.

"Breakfast was poor. Food wasn't hot. There was only thin sliced bread available for toasting and the toaster was totally useless. Twice on Sunday they ran out of food and plates, leaving people standing in a queue for up to 15 minutes. Bar food was poor. When I asked for vanilla ice-cream it came with chocolate in it. Bar service was very poor, frequently there was no-one serving. There was only one red wine available by the glass although two were listed. The wine was kept under halogen lights making it too hot." (99625667)

    Comfortable, good sized beds

Shabby room - with cobwebs. Only one chair but three beds in a twin room. Lack of hot water at peak times. Extractor in bathroom didn't work. Switch on hairdrier had to be held down all the time.
