"Excellent ambience and good food and first class service from all the staff." (107190349)

Excellent accommodation which my wife and I would recommend to anyone.

  • 7/10 Trevor ( Mature couple)

from Lymm , GB  on  September 16, 2008

"Overall we enjoyed our stay" (108003302)

Good size room, breakfast good, system for key drop-off and collection goo. Staff polite and friendly

Corridors very tatty, carpet in dining room also tatty. In bathroom the shower was hard to get a good flow of medium hot water and there was nothing to hold onto when getting out of the bath - very difficult for more elderly people.

  • 7/10 Anonymous ( Solo business traveller)

Staff were excellent. Food was good

Hotel in need of refurbishment, however, it is still a comfortable place to stay.

all staff were excelent Breakfast was very good

Evening meal menu was very average

  • 5/10 Anonymous ( Young couple)

"Adequate as a base for persons just wanting a hotel to sleep and have a shower but i would of been horrified if I had been staying at the hotel for a 1 or 2 week stay! Hotel looks very nice upon arrival but behind the scenes, the hotel really does need redecoration." (108059410)

    breakfast choice was very good

hotel corridors need decorating, room needed decorating, carpet in places on corridors covered in tape to cover holes / damage. Toilet didn't flush very well. Considering there were two persons staying in the room, there were only biscuits and drinks sachets for one on both days. One member of staff rather abrupt and rude but this was challenged at the time of the event.

from Kenley , GB  on  August 21, 2008

"We had lovely time - wish we had had longer." (107103459)

Everyone very polite, yet friendly. Requests were actioned very quickly. The dancing - by guests - in the lounge was lovely! Pianist very knowledgable about the history of the hotel.

We were a little confused where we could eat - didn't know whether the menu in the room was for the restuarant or just the bar. Couldn't see a restuarant menu (although we didn't ask). However, the staff were very helpful and made us feel very much at ease with our daft questions! The smoking area at the front door was a little off-putting - every time we entered or left the hotel, it was through a cloud of smoke; as non-smokers, that was not very pleasant.

  • 10/10 Sherri ( Same sex couple)

from Glossop , GB  on  August 20, 2008

"Excellent and enjoyable stay, very clean & tidy, beautiful building, comfortable surroubdings- The food is of a very good standard. I will be visiting this hotel again if I need to visit Harrogate in the future. " (107126175)

Fabulous accommodation, pleasant stay, value for money, breakfast choice was superb, staff were very friendly, helpful and profesional. I will definately visit again.

The accomodation corridors could do with a lick of paint- just tidying up however it is noticeable that the hotel is under going refurbishment so I'm sure this will be done soon.

"Very satisfactory - would definitely stay again." (107128272)

Very good service; very clean and tidy hotel and room.

Hotel looked like it could do with a little work - some paintwork looking a bit old and the window wouldn't shut in the bedroom.

    "Convenient and comfortable" (97890734)

Well appointed hotel, large and comfortable bedroom; pleanty of public space.

The dining room was not well lit. The breakfast bar couyld be moved to the other side of the room and tables put in the bay with windows.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Cleanliness of rooms very good. Food excellent.

Twin room for children window was jammed slightly open. Toilet seemed to be somewhat blocked (bowl filled almost to top but did not overflow). TV signal connection faulty.

    "Adequate." (108095078)

    Friendly staff.

Bar prices too high, inadequate availability of parking, room and corridor needed redecorating.

"Apart from a couple of small faults our stay was verey comfortable and enjoyable. We would stay in this hotel again. " (97486323)

Hotel was clean. Nice grounds. Friendly and helpfull staff. Over all a comfortable and peacefull stay with a central location. Would recomend.

Floor boards in hall way were very noisy especially a nite time when guests were returning to their rooms. Bathroom could do with good size shelf to place toiletries on.. Breakfast could be more fairly priced.

"We booked a 5 night stay and was bitterly disappointed with our room due to its location. We requested a move and was relocated to the only room available which was smaller with insufficient drawer space. We have stayed at the Cairn before without any problems - but not any more. " (97576958)

The Cairn is very well situated as it takes only minutes to walk to the city centre and has the bonus of ample parking. (Parking is a problem in July when the Cairn hosts 'Home & Gift Trade Fair'.)The refurbishment of the reception/lounge area which was taking place on our previous visit has now been completed and looks stunning.

The corridors and doors to the rooms are very shabby which makes you think you are in another hotel. Shame

  • 9/10 Katherine ( Young couple)

from Swansea , GB  on  July 14, 2008

"Good/ excellent in certain areas" (108086915)

acutal room excellent & staff very friendly & efficient in fact outstanding customer service

corridors could do with refurbishing, smelly in places - not a bad smell but an old one! also, in the rooms no dead lock facility or chain on door, a single woman would not be confident with this arrangement.

  • 8/10 Monica ( Group of work colleagues)

"I expect a higher standard of food and beverages at hotels I stay in to make my stay a genuine pleasure for a week-end break. Several dishes had to be returned, and the coffee was barely warm. I expect a cafetiere at breakfast." (97356333)

good facilities good position (proximity to town centre etc) helpful staff

    food beverages

  • 7/10 Tom ( Mature couple)

from Newcastle upon tyne , GB  on  July 8, 2008

"There were so many things that just fell short of a good performance in out stay - a great pity because the staff were excellent and the town was a genuine pleasure to visit. A little bit of hard work could make this a great place to stay." (97847924)

Friendly welcome and excellent staff performance throughout. Room was clean and comfortable.

Poor decor outwith the main entrance area. Poor in room facilities (TV channels and tea and coffee provision at a minimum level). Little info available regarding the Harrogate area itself. Phone book vandalised and pages removed. Breakfast adequate but not up to an expected standard for cost paid.

Great staff, lobby area was great, good size room and bathroom which was nicely appointed, internet connection was free and easy to access . Breakfasts were good although the hours were limited. Fitness room was small, but adequate. car park facilities were very good. Access to Harrogate by foot in 5-10 minutes.

Dinner was not good, the meal was very ordinary.

Lovely room, coffee making facilities included biscuits which is unusual these days. Breakfast was very good too, staff were friendly and helpful. Nice flowers on tables in lobby area.

Room was somehow in the middle in a corner with view only of fire escape.

I dont eat or drink at the hotel but breakfast is usually a good selection of cooked and cold foods etc. The hotel attacts a lot of coach tours with senior citizens but I have family in Harrogate so am usually out." "Not bad, staff could have offered a discount for the alarm going off, and my lack of sleep. The dining room carpet was all taped down, looked bad, would I stay there again, haven't yet decided." (97975543)

Had a snack in the evening good, receptionist on arrival ok, but room not ready at 2pm in the afternoon, receptionist at night good, porter at night good, gym good.

Deputy duty manager, unsympathic to the fact that the hotel alarm went off at 3am in the morning, I had a 400 mile drive on saturday, and only got 3 hours sleep, due to this incident. Bread served at breakfast was mouldy. The menu said button mushrooms, but got big black ones chopped up.

"Overall the stay at the Cairn Hotel was fine and met our requirements. I just felt that some redecoration was required." (97744472)

The size of the hotel and the facilities were good. I found the decor in the room to be a little bit tired and perhaps not the money I paid for a single room. It however was clean.

I thought some of the corridors, as well as my room could have done with redecoration. The plates at breakfast were also extremely hot. In fact I would say dangerous. There was a sign asking guests to use a napkin to hold the plate, however I needed five and could still feel the heat coming through.

I had booked a one night stay in the hotel for my husband's birthday. I had requested a quiet room and as soon as we checked in at reception we were advised that there were 2 Christmas parties that night. Our room was upgraded to a suite at the far end of the hotel from the 2 functions & we didn't hear a peep all night. Great place & customer care!

That we could only stay for 1 night!
