    Attentive Staff, good atmosphere

There was a party staying on one night and they kept asking for the TV channel on the bar to be changed, I was watching the football and they wanted to watch a different game, the staff just changed the channel and didn't check with everyone who was watching if they were happy. The party were eating in the restaurant at the time and not watching the game. I didn't mind as I was not worried which game I watched but it is more a matter of politeness to be asked.

"Overall a good stay but definitely made better by the low rate. If I hadn't had such a good rate, I would question staying at this hotel and paying the full rate." (108088721)

The room rate was excellent - I really couldn't complain. Room was clean and well ordered, there is ample parking and the hotel was fine for what I wanted.

As I had such a good rate, the staff did tend to treat me as an annoying addition. Although the main reception rooms are adequate, the corridors leading to the bedrooms are narrow and a bit tatty and there is no lift.

"The hotel is very nice but your food lets you down, very basic bar menu and has not changed in 5 years, poor choice on main meals on sunday. Steak very tough need to be improved with choice and quality as this lets your hotel down. we always use you for the shows and always to tired to go elsewher to eat and always feel disapointed with food." (97606056)

Room very good and clean, tv remote did not work and you had no batts in hotel to replace

    Convenient, clean, friendly.

It was a dark rainy night in birmingham - hardly the hotel's fault.

"As I was to use a credit card to pay the bill, on check in I was charged more than the amount as security. They could not refund me there and then, I now have to wait for a cheque to come through the post. This hotels caters for wedding parties, other hotel guests are then treated as second class, no dining facilities provided, placed in rooms affected by the noise from parties. etc" (99179088)

Paper thin walls means you hear all types of noises, TV's, toilets, talking, etc!!

nice room.Good breakfast and helpful pleasant staff.

evening meal was presented at bit late at 7pm, would have liked more of an earlier option.

"The hotel itself was very nice and some of the staff were really friendly. I was on my own and sometimes it would have been nice if staff were able to take time to chat with me rather than have me sitting there alone.I was suprised at how far it was from town and I would say that your quote of 20 mins should state by car. Bus takes longer and it is certainly not within walking distance.I realise this sounds a bit negative but I did enjoy my holiday and I would certainly think of returning." (99083908)

It was clean and bright and airy.

The noise from other quests. You could hear your neighbour going to the loo or having a shower, even snoring. There were kids running up and down the corridor shouting and screaming and the parents did little to keep them quiet. This was early morning and any other time they went to their room.

it was a nice and plesent hotel i liked the feeling the staff gave off

when i asked for room service i had to go down to reception to order and then again to pay the idea about room service is you should be able to order from your room and pay when you leave.

Location was good with good parking, we liked the country syle bar and bed was comfy

The staff seemed to not like each other and were arguing infront of us. The bar staff were grumpy and openly talking about their life with discussions we would not normally expect to hear.

Reception Staff were helpful and friendly. Good location. Nice breakfast.

Very thin walls (kept awake by t.v in next room both nights). However, when we complained to reception at 2am on the 2nd night they did phone the next room and ask them to turn the t.v. down. Also bath and sink water took ages to drain away meaning when you showered you were standing in a few inches of water.

"Although the room was generally quiet, with little or no noise from adjacent areas (I think we've all had a room above the disco floor before now!)the number of stairways are a little annoying especially when carrying luggage, mainly because of the narrowness of the stairs and the difficulty of then having to negotiate the fire door at the top of stair.Been here a few times before and I am now getting a little irritated by this. Staff however are always courteous and polite." (99336673)

No noise from adjacent areas, allowing a good nights sleep

Dated bathroom/toilet facilities, in need of upgrading.Main room more than acceptable for the fee paid. But washroom facilities need updating.

"I would actually recommend this hotel. On the plus side there is free parking, the staff are actually quite good and the maids don't disturb you in the morning - I was able to extend checkout until 1pm without being charged extra and without actually being disturbed. On the minus side, room service is quite limited, especially for breakfast and the corridors are a bit smelly and the carpets definitely need replacing in them. Once you get into the rooms and in the main public areas of the hotel, it's fine though. The hotel is just off the M5 so if you are planning on heading into Birmingham City Centre, it is quite a trek. Overall a good hotel though." (99799827)

Overall the room was fine - quite cramped for a single room but it was clean and everything worked. They were fairly generous with tea and coffee provisions too.

Hotel corridors looked a bit tired despite the fact there was supposed to have been an upgrade and they are also very narrow.

"Overall a decent hotel friendly staff which try to help in anyway they can, if travelling with a pushchair,or use a wheelchair, a lift would have been usefull or some kind of ramp to get to the room, but quite pleased with the room.very good to get on or off the motorway lots of parking space if travelling with a big group." (99018194)

    Accesability, warm friendly helpfull

bath needed to be cleaned properly. the food was ok not good value for money exspecially bar food.

"We enjoyed our stay as it was good value for money. The location was good for travelling into Birmingham city centre for the evening. Staff were friendly and efficient. The breakfast was excellent and the staff who waited on were polite and eager to please. Would use the hotel again on future visits to Birmingham. Thankyou for an enjoyable stay! Therese Durrant" (3305484452)

The room was clean and comfortable

The bathroom could do with a refurb and there were no biscuits on the hospitality tray (important after a long journey!). A wedding function meant that we were unable to use the restaurant facilities.

"We would definately stay at the Great Barr Hotel again as it is within close proximity to family members we visit regularly and was of a very high standard. We have already recommended the hotel to other family members." (3305433257)

The hotel was very modern and well presented with comfortable, clean, and slightly luxurious accomodation.

Room service menu only consisted of sandwiches after 9pm and takeaway outlets were quite a distance away. Would have been useful to have numbers of some delivery takeaway services available in rooms.

"I would have liked to have known more about the surrounding area. The flats to the right as you access the hotel don't provide a good first impression. Although room service is fairly basic I think that on registration more information on the value pack would of been welcome. By the time I discovered the slip of paper under the phone it was too late to order. For the purpose of my visit to the area I found the accommodation to be adequate given the cost. That in mind I will book into the hotel for the same event next year and I would recommend the hotel to others." (3304936882)

Hotel was clean and well located for the event that was I was attending.

Rooms, although clean, were a little dated. In particular the bathroom which had obviously been fitted back in the late 70's/early 80's.
