Located in quiet area within easy walking distance to Promenade and shops etc also near to the smallest pub in Great Britain worth a visit

Nothing to dislike unless you are looking for ultra modern - this hotel is a traditional family run one and excellent value for money

    A very spacious bedroom

  • 8/10 Keith (Mature couple)

    from Stroud , United Kingdom;GB on  December 2, 2006

The room had everything we needed and there was a parking space for our car. The staff were very friendly. Our breakfast was excellent. The hotel was just a short walk from the sea front and shopping area.

Maybe could do with some updating. For example, it could do with a better shower in the bathroom we used.

  • 7/10 Paul (Solo business traveller)

    from Leeds , United Kingdom;GB on  December 2, 2006

"Quite adequate for myself as a single person on business, but probably would not stay there if on holiday or with family. Rooms are adequate to provide basic amenities and include ensuite and tv,but the hotel badly needs decorating that woud make it cleaner and fresher." (99479669)

Accomodation was basic but adequate in line with the reasonable room rate. Breakfast was quite good and promptly served

No dislikes, but the place could do with redecoration that would make it a lot more appealing, and cleaner looking

  • 8/10 Chris (Solo business traveller)

"Generally quite impressed in terms of value for money (would have been less enthusiastic if I'd paid £70 for a double; a single was only £35). Obviously the hotel was not at the cutting edge in terms of style, but everything was clean and worked well. Staff were courteous and helpful, and the breakfast was pretty reasonable." (99252111)

Good value for money, excellent location

Decor a bit chintzy for my taste, no shower (only a bath)

  • 8/10 Anonymous (Group of adult friends)

"I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Southport. There was plenty of free parking on the grounds. There is a swimming pool in the hotel but this was not open during our visit due to structural problems. However we were offered nearby facilities." (3305346695)

The hotel was in an excellent location, 5 minutes from the centre of Southport. The room was spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was lovely. Staff were very helpful. Would definately use again!

The shower didn't work (unless you want a cold shower!). The shower attachment over the bath also didn't work which meant it was challenging for two ladies to get ready for a night out. We were slightly concerned that there were notices telling us not to flush anything at all down the toilet.

    from Carnforth , United Kingdom;GB on  September 1, 2006

"Fantastic, genuinely caring staff, terrific restaurant and food - didn't have to go out looking for somewhere to eat - 'eating in' on the first night showed us how good it was so we stayed in every night! Great value for money - you should tell people about your terrific restaurant and food. Breakfasts also fantastic and consistent quality throughout every meal." (3304260653)

We liked the spacious bedroom and the facilities in the room, hospitality tray, TV etc. Bright, fresh and spotlessly clean. Well serviced everyday.

The bathroom was the only area where we were not totally satisfied - nothing major, just things like no shelf to put toiletries or toilet bag on, an old, small showerhead and quite a tight squeeze compared to the bedroom. Like I said, nothing major but it was the only thing that I could say needs improving.

"The staff - escpecially the proprietor himself - went out of his way to be accomodating and flexible to meet our needs. We arrived and were welcomed, shown everything then left alone. Any questions or issues we had were immediately dealt with. The hotel is in excellent condition and has a lovely feel to it. Relaxed and informal, but at all times professional. The food was excellent both in quantity, quality and vale for money. I will not stay anywhere else if I am in the area of Southport in the future either on holiday or business, and will encourage all my freinds to stay there as well." (3304146660)

The room was excellent, the general ambience and feel of the hotel was very warm and friendly.

THE ROOM WE STAYED IN WAS ACTUALLY A SUITE WITH 2 SEPARATE BEDROOMS ONE FOR US AND ONE FOR OUR 3 YEAR OLD SON. IT WAS FANTASTIC BECAUSE HE COULD SLEEP UNDISTURBED IN ONE BEDROOM WHILST WE COULD WATCH THE TELEVISION AND CHAT IN THE OTHER.

THERE WERE A LOT OF STAIRS UP TO OUR ROOM, BUT IT WAS MORE THAN WORTH IT WHEN WE GOT THERE!!!!

It was very clean, the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was fantastic.

"A very friendly comfortable place to stay. The hotel is maintained in a very clean condition and the breakfast is everything one would expect from a well run establishment. Apart from the early closing of the lounge and restaurant I have no complaints whatsoever and would certainly stay there on future visits." (3304669841)

Very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was first class with superb attention to our needs. Ample car parking within walking distance to all main attractions in the town.

Television lounge and bar closing at 1030pm which I think is a little early. Evening meals stop at 7.30pm which again is a little early, otherwise a first class place to stay.

Ageing decor. Fussy furnishings. Torn carpet. Door handles coming off.

  • 8/10 Eileen (Family with young children)

    from Stockport , United Kingdom;GB on  April 25, 2006

"The hotel, and the staff were just as we had imagined from the web site, but it would have been helpfull to have known exactly how far the walking distance was from the shops, and the main attractions, as disabled guests would like to know . It would have been of interest to disabled guests to know that there is a shopmobility scheme in Southport, in fact all hotels do not give out any information like this. The rooms we occupied were just right for our type of party, and the management were very good in making sure we had exactly what we needed, It was an overnight stay for our grand children to break the boredom of the school holidays for them, and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all six of us." (3304563795)

The room suited our requirements very well, It was clean, airy and plenty of room for hanging clothes etc. It was nice to have a plug near the mirror for my own hairdryer , as this does not happen very often in any hotels.

nothing really, except maybe the electric kettle could be put nearer the plug, as it had to be placed on a stool in order for the cable to reach the plug, this could be dangerous for young children.

We liked the friendly approach of staff, we were treated very warmly on arrival. Breakfast was excellent. Room was spacious and welcoming but in desperate need of a little T.L.C

Hotel in our opinion needs some work to give it that 'Wow' factor. We realise that it would take money but we feel that anything spent would be a great investment. Hot water was in very short supply

"The hotel was easy to find and was within walking distance of the main town (Lord Street) and sea front. The lakes were a short distance up the road, which are very pleasant to walk around. We only stayed for one night, the reason being my husband is a 'Bird Watcher' and we were the right end of Southport to go to the hydes and nature reserve (one very happy husband!!). He went off Bird Watching and I was able to enjoy my pasttime, shopping in Lord Street!. The hotel was clean and the room was large and comfortable with color TV, ensuite, hostess tray and hairdryer. The breakfast was good. The choice for breakfast was good and it was 'service with a smile'. The fact that you could park on the forecourt of the hotel was also handy, so you could leave your car knowing it would be quite safe. Would certainly go back again." (3304271070)

within walking distance of shops and sea front (approx 5-10 mins). Parking for car off road at front of hotel.

"Situated within walking distance of Southport's main centre, ample car parking spaces. The staff were very accommodating, helping my elderly parents with their luggage to their room. Advice was available on local amenities and recommendations proved excellent. As the hotel wasn't full I was given a free upgrade from a single room to a double room free of charge." (3304054439)

Fast and efficient check in. See General Review.

I'm being very critical here trying to find something to say, the only thing being that the television in my room was faulty and the remote control was not working properly.

"WE were made very welcome and Dean solved the hot water problem as best he could. We feel it is vital to have a constant supply of hot water as a bath is a must when staying away! The hotel was advertised with swimming pool which was not the case and looked to be in a very poor state of repair(very unlikley would have used anyway)this could cause a problem with swimmers! We dined out but the breakfast was excellent." (2864548)

The hotel was not too big and the location is perfect just being off town centre, which makes it nice and quiet.

We only had a couple of drinks at the small but cosy bar.We did have a problem with the hot water supply, the system could be improved?

"All of the other hotels in Southport were booked, so we had little choice and since it was only one night,we could put up with almost anything. The hotel was not terrible, but it was a family run venue that is on the same standard as Fawlty Towers without the jokes. Saying that it could do with a makeover is an understatement. In comparison, on Friday night, we stayed at a B&B between Liverpool and Manchester which was just £5/night more expensive, but the room and bathroom were of a whole different standard. And the breakfast was superb." (2957700)

    The room was spacious.

In general a very old fashioned establishment. Bathroom fixtures looked to be from a different era. The shower was an antique mixer. The toilet dribbled, taking ages to fill and shut down.

"I was very surprised when we were shown our room, it was very modern with all the latest brown and cream fur cushions and satin throws on the bed. The decor and ornaments were all coordinated very well so much so that we decided to do the same in our bedroom at home. The service was good, couple who ran the hotel were very friendly and down to earth. I would imagine they were very child friendly having a big family thenselves, (Five daughters). All in all we had a great time. We used to walk into the town which took about five minutes to reach the shops. The only thing i was disapointed with is that the pool was not in order at the time." (2792920)

Our room was very modern and stylish, i was very impressed. Bathroom was clean with bath and shower and hot water was always very hot.

"This is a pleasant comfortable hotel in a quiet area, a good five-minute walk from the top end of Lord Street, outside the pay-and-display street parking zone. We paid £35pppn and at that price it represents good value for money." (2818577)

Large comfortable room and bathroom with good heating, two comfortable armchairs, well-provisioned tea/coffee tray, comfortable bed, truly hot water, large car park, good welcome.

Geriatric TV with only basic channels and variable TV reception; painfully slow toilet cistern fill; broken toilet lid hinge; limited choice of bread/fruit for continental breakfast.
