"fine. didn't stay in room much as we were busy visiting with friends. " (108079640)
staff were friendly and very helpful. beds comfortable and pillows and sheets clean. bathroom seemed clean.
room was very dated and there were stains on bedspread that were off-putting. bathroom grouting needs to be redone. sounds really carried from hall and room to room. although no issues with noise, i could see there being a problem if there were rowdier guests nearby. there was a leaflet in room advertising buy one night get one free at the hotel, but reception knew nothing of the offer.

"Adequate for one nights stay but would not choose for a longer period." (97042961)
Accomodation was clean and staff friendly.
Room was very hot and stuffy with little ventilation. Heating was on at the end of July! Hotel did not provide any soap/shampoo ect.

brochure very misleading, dissappointed to be staying away from main hotel, the interior is so beautiful inside but badly needs re decoration, for the price to stay breakfast should be cheaper.

"We stayed her because we were attending a wedding reception at the hotel. More attention to the details is required by staff and management. Although our room was generally well decorated and equiped. there was no soap in the bathroom (and we were told the hotel was awaiting a delivery)no spare pillows, the extractor in the bathroom didn't work, there were a number of cobwebs in the room and there was no information sheet on the table giving simple details like extension numbers for reception, houskeeping etc, hence we could not complain without going back to reception." (97496619)
The old part of the hotel has great character
Lack of attention to details and a general tired feeling to the place could do with a shake up and make over.

"A pleasant stay " (108010393)
Was able to book a room on the same day as travelling. Reception staff were polite as we entered the building.
As hotel had wedding it could not cope with extra bodies. Also was not told this when booking so could not sit outside in the evening to enjoy the hot weather and drink.

After reading previous reviews that were not very good, I did not have high expectations but we were agreeably surprised to find the hotel very reasonable with polite and helpful staff and facilities that were more than adequate for a short stay

Reception staff had noted that my wife and I were travelling with an elderly relative and arranged adjoining rooms. A very pleasant and helpful barman.
The rooms and corridors are very shabby indeed. Frankly it should be refurbished or closed. Breakfast was dry and overcooked or had been kept warm for too long. My bed was in two parts.

Good breakfast, better than expected. Room was in a quiet location. Instructions on the hotel website to find it were good.
They did not appear to have our reservation which was done online earlier in the day fortunately they had a room for us. Bedroom a bit small

"I had no problem booking the Hotel online. Confirmation email was sent promptly and directions were adequate. Faulty equipment in the room, then moved to second room which had equipment missing. Phone to reception not working in both rooms, which meant having to go to reception each time to request equipment, half of which finally got delivered at 11pm in the evening! The rest never materialized. Reception staff were particularly unhelpful and unsympathetic to the request for an iron, which was urgently needed as I was involved in business training the following day." (97367535)

Pretty much everything. The service was appauling. Equipment faulty or missing. Staff unhelpful.

"When we arrived at the Hotel at lunchtime (about 12.30)the bar wasn't open and only opened after repeated asking.(We had driven up from Bournemouth for a family funeral at 2.00p.m and were tired and needed something to eat beforehand.Once open(after a 20 minute wait)they offered toasted sandwiches which took another 20 minutes to arrive. We had little time to eat them. We had booked a table in the restaurant ( a week in advance )for 12 at 8p.m.When I booked I asked if there were vegetarian options I was told there would be a choice of 4-5 starters, mains and desserts including vegetarian options which were not a problem. In reality we were told when sitting in the bar at 7.30p.m before the meal that the Chef had phoned in sick, the delivery they were expecting had not turned up and there were no vegetarian meals available and only 3 rump steaks for the rest of us-otherwise there was fish , chicken and chips or steak baguette/burger on offer !Fortunately the two semi-vegetarians in our party ate fish and settled for the sea bass-when I asked if this was filleted or not the waiter did not know what this meant and I had to explain. We had a choice of two (not 5) starters melon or soup and to be fair the mushroom soup was quite nice. The main meals came in dribs and drabs and after some time 9 people had main courses and 3 were still waiting. The waiter then asked if there was anything else he could get us and I pointed out that I would quite like the main course I had ordered!!He hurried away and came back 10 minutes later with my steak baguette and chips assuring me I had not been forgotten.Again he asked if we had everything we needed-at this point I almost lost my temper as I pointed out again that two of our party (my son and niece) still had no food!At this he looked quite shocked, checked his note pad and mumbled something about there only being 3 steaks ( only 3 had been ordered as we had been told this in advance-they were waiting for steak baguette and a burger)and he had made a mistake-they settled for chicken which came 10 minutes later and was dry and had clearly been defrosted in the microwave and overcooked. My steak baguette was basically a dry french roll with lumps of even dryer meat and was almost inedible.Others were not impressed with their meals-perhaps the lucky 3 who had steaks should have taken advantage of the gravy offered -although it is not usually offered with rump steaks. At this point my brother in law lost his temper and went to find the restaurant manager to complain about the level of service and standard of food which was not in line with what we were lead to believe or expect from the website and the call I made to book the meal in the first place. He negotiated a substantial discount-we would have preferred to have a good meal after such a traumatic day (attending my father in law's funeral was not easy for any of us)and pay the right price. In short we were very disappointed with the level of service and food which we were served.I think it is a shame because the position of the Hotel is quiet and the grounds pleasant. The restaurant itself had character and the bar area comfortable.I think the staff and kitchens need to be reviewed seriously if this Hotel is to stay in business -perhaps Gordon Ramsay should be invited to take a look at the kitchens?" (97608117)
WE booked a double premier room.It was in a quiet position and quite spacious. There was a hair dryer and tea/coffee facilities. It was quite comfortable.
The pillows were flat. The bathroom did not have shower gel/shampoo etc. for two people which one would expect in a Premier room-only one tiny bar of soap.

"Bog standard budget hotel. Looking a bit tired overall but everything was in working order. Staff were friendly and quite efficient although there was nobody available to check me in when I arrived. My main gripe is with the pay TV. The hotel have an outrageous set up - the charges kick in as soon as you start to browse the channels. There is no freeview period and the option to confirm that you would like to watch a channel has been disabled - very crafty and unethical. Also, I realised after I'd left that I was overcharged for breakfast." (97286215)

I thought that the hotel was homely, the dining area was stunning for breakfast.
Akthough I did not have time to hang around the hotel due to the nature of my visit, I feel that the gambling machine was out of place in the lounge and more could have been made of the lovely lounge rooms. Improved couches, paintings etc.

Restaurant and garden very nice. Location is calm. Kettle and trouser press were a nice suprise. Personnel is quite nice.
Infrastructure is not up to par (entrance door not working correctly, toilet flush held together by metal wire, a trash dump right next to the car park, right below some room windows I believe)

"the outside of the hotel is awful - upon arrival I nearly turned round and drove out again. Once inside it isn't too bad, the staff were very friendly. It certainly was NOT value for money. We went to the restuarant but it smelt very odd and we left. We ordered room service - the food was of poor quality and over priced. Overall a very disappointing stay. The front of the hotel and the garden was lovely. The staff were friendly as well.
The wing where our room was, was incredibly shabby and smelt damp. The car park area was old and in need of refurbishment. Breakfast on the sunday was completely inadequate as apparently the chef had gone weird and refused to cook, therefore there wasn't enough food, breakfast was also overpriced at £23.90 for two. The whole place needs considerably improved decor.

"i wish there was an up to date account of what the hotel was like in the present day, and even a possible comments page on the web from previous customers." (99509505)
general standard and appearance. the website gives you the impression that it is a quaint country retreat when in fact it is a tired looking hostel that badly needs a revamp and modernisation. the toilet facilities are liken to that in a prison and the bed was one of the most uncomfortable i've ever experienced. because of these and many other reasons, our stay was cut short from a nice weekend to a short uncomfortable overnight stay.

"I would not stay there again unless I was forced to. It was a lovely old building with beautiful grounds, but the annexe was poky and the bed was not too comfortable, felt worn, pillows hard. The whole thing was just seedy." (99323634)
convenience to location I had to access
Overflowing garbage bins outside my window. no tub facilities only a shower fixed flow. Low lights, difficult to read. On ground floor in annexe far from main building. This is not a good situation for a woman travelling alone. Bar dinner, microwave heated and not very good. Breakfast far too expensive. Parking did not feel safe, although there were no incidents.

Having an additional lady with us it was hard to find a single rood at a sensible price (you had one!). For the price we had no complaints really." (99217245)
Price was good, as we had a lady friend needing a single room
We stayed one night then rebooked for a second night. Showers not so good in all rooms. Smoke alarm had plasic bag over it and the smell of smoke was terrible (not spotted by 'maid'). We had asked in plenty of time, for room for easy access (new knee joint to cope with)but were upstairs.

"I have stayed here in the past and found it a very friendly hotel, with staff being exceptionally kind, considerate and efficient. However I feel the standards of maintenance both in the rooms and lift area, in particular the decoration could be improved. Also the bathrooms could do with updating. I had great difficulty with the taps on the bath and the shower, although there seemed a continuous supply of hot water." (97370591)
The Hotel is well situated for all the main road access in and out of Northampton. The staff are very friendly and efficient, and very patient in particular the bar staff on the night I spent there. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Also reception staff were excellent.
There happened to be a problem with door entry to individual rooms during my stay, which meant a member of staff had always to let you in and out of your room.I was not impressed with the contractor supplying the hotel regarding this as I consider it very important for a gust to have their own access to a hotel room!!!! Having said that, the staff coped excellently with the problem.
