very spacious rooms, nice quiet location but close enough to towns and villages

door brasswork could do with polish as looked grubby

"Overall the Clarion Hotel provided very good family accommodation and service at a very affordable price. All the staff are friendly and very helpfull and accommodating. I think the Hotel would benifit from some upgrading particularly in the bedrooms. A bar fridge would be a plus, the beds/ mattresses need renewing and the Bathrooms / showers, shower head, Taps and fittings. Took an age for the hot water to filter through to the shower, but once there provided a good hot shower. Couldn't find a hair dryer in the room? not essential but most places have them these days. The rooms were well heated through central heating but were difficult to adjust." (97282153)

Nice location, spacious rooms, good car parking facilities, friendly efficient service, nice breakfasts, good all round amenities.

Hotel in need of a general face lift, was clean and tidy but rooms in need of some renovation. Bed could have been more comfortable but was adequate. Could be more of a selection of TV channels, especially for Kids.

The rooms were spacious and staff friendly and anxious to help; breakfast on the 1st morning was excellent but then a buffet breakfast was disappointing

We moved rooms after the first night due to light bulbs not working, wash basin not draining and lack of cleanliness. At our replacement room no soap, shampoo or hairdryer. Newspapers oredered didn't arrive 2 out of 3 mornings and there was an overall impression of very helpful but over stressed staff.

"The hotel, outside and inside, is desperately in need of an update requiring new beds and fixtures. The room came with a separate living space with sofa's and table which were unnecessary for a one night stay. It would have been better to have the single bedroom for a cheaper price. When arriving at the hotel trays of dirty plates/food and laundry were left in the corridors which was not very nice to see. The breakfast was OK however it was clear that the cooked food (e.g. bacon) had been cooked for a while and instead of removing old cold food, the freshly cooked food was placed over the top. Overall I would not recommend staying at this hotel for the price when cheaper cleaner accommodation is available." (97424394)

    The breakfast staff were friendly.

The rooms were quite dirty, with a very old uncomfortable bed. The room and the towels smelt of smoke which wasn't pleasent.

"I read the reviews on the hotel website after i booked it. Was not really concerned with what i read, people see things differently anyway. We arrived separatly, on christmas day, and were greeted with a beaming smile, and i have to say ALL the staff were chatty and friendly, which made our stay even better. We just walked in the room and made it our own for the next 5 days. Put the do not disturb sign up, and that's where it stayed for 5 days, our choice, and it was respected by the cleaners and staff who didn't question at all....cool! Thats what we like, trust. We had an awesome time and can't wait to go back in february! Overall, great hotel, great staff, great room, and a wicked view...what more could you ask for......roll on february!!" (97922146)

Wow the rooms were big it was like being at home! but more tidy lol Big couch, dining table, loads of storage space, the bathroom was big as well, sep toilet and shower.

"We normally use a different hotel, but we thought we would try this one for the first time(see above comments on toilet problem and room presentation)overall we enjoyed our stay at this hotel, but it could have been so much better with just a few simple tasks." (97113642)

Convenience, the children loved it, use of the swimming pool for the children, breakfast facilities, staff were friendly and helpful

Using the toilet for the first time it took 10 flushes to clear the toilet (this persisted over 3 night stay), I immediately informed reception there was a problem with it. I mentioned it again upon check out and I was told upon leaving that it was a problem with the drains and not the toilet, apparently other people on the same floor had also mentioned this but the toilet issue was not resolved during our stay. Presentation of the room could have been better with just a few simple modifications, there was no vallance on the bed, the pillows were not comfortable and one net curtain had been pulled down and left scrunched up in the corner of the bedroom. These were easy to rectify and would have helped in the overall presentation of the room

The size of the room and the general good facilities. We did not use the gym but that also looked very good.

Nothing to dislike about the accommodation but we found the hotel very difficult to find from the directions given

    Spacious

the decor was a bit 'faded', the room was generally dark.

The deluxe room gave excellent value for money. The room was well away from the social areas and therefore we heard no noise whatsoever.

A little TLC needed with decorating and some the furniture looked to be nearing their sell by date

"Although the hotel could do with redecorating in places our accommodation was a very good size, not small and compact like some more modern hotels. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the breakfast portions were good with plenty of choice. There is plenty of parking and the hotel is in a nice rural setting." (99879317)

The room was a very good size, very large bed, seating area for television, a large dressing area and good size bathroom. Liked shower as it had large shower head and water nice and hot

The hotel is a bit tired around the edges and could do with redecoration/ facelift

  • 8/10 Paul (Solo business traveller)

The shower was a pig to regulate and kept changing temperature!

  • 4/10 William (Mature couple)

from Tunbridge wells , GB on  June 8, 2007

"Good facilities in Wet Suite. But visit spoilt by following incidents/experiences: room not cleaned or serviced on arrival (3.30pm), newspapers ordered but not delivered, complete lack of sufficient bar/dining room staff on the Monday evening (1 waitress - 1 chef) of our stay resulting in; approx. 1 hour-twenty minute wait for dinner, waitress unable to find bottleopener so we were not able to have wine of choice, one course when served did not contain vegetables as stated on the menu. I would emphasise that the waitress strove to be efficient and pleasant, but that the blame for this sloppy and unacceptable service lay with the management, none of whom appeared to be present in the hotel on the night in question!! Active Hotels advertise this hotel as De-luxe accommodation, which appears to be a very liberal interpretation of the Trades Description Act!" (99860968)

Large bedroom and suite, with good views. Excellent parking facilities and access. Staff generally polite and friendly.

Some fittings in bathroom in need of repair! Outside part of hotel gave an air of lack of maintenance, e.g. plaster peeling from walls, cladding badly decayed and scruffy.

"The hotel was close to the M6 but far enough away to be in pleasant countryside with great views. First sight of the hotel showed peeling paintwork on the walls which disappointed. Into reception, smelt a little of cigarette smoke. Receptionist was very welcoming and in general staff were very friendly and helpful. Size of room was a nice surprise, it was good to have a living room complete with large settee, armchair, TV and even a dining table and chairs. Bedroom was spacious and comfortable. Bathroom large and clean. Decor overall could do with updating but otherwise we were very pleased with the hotel and even booked an extra day." (3305161933)

Spacious room and quite (505). Always request same room.

Slightly worn, grubby look in vacinity of reception area. Dinner not very good (micro-waved veg) but with few covers perhaps cannot expect too much.

"The hotel, all though a little tired in decor, met all our requirements. The service and staff were spot on and the food was delicious. Our only complaint would be that we were a little disapointed that the sauna wasn't working, but the steam room, gym and pool made up for that! Overall, a good, cheap, online deal but was glad not to pay full price." (3304889698)

There is a huge car park-mainly because they have functions like weddings there and there are very good views of the countryside from the front of the hotel." (3304946619)

The room was very spacious and in a quiet part of the hotel-the bathroom was a good size, shower very efficient-very important to us! the bed was a very good size and comfortable.

It was on the ground floor which meant not leaving windows open at night, and it was very hot when we were there, but this was not a serious problem.
