    "Enjoyable" (108044851)

Very welcoming and attentive staff, very clean throughout, nice modern contemporary look to the bar/restaurant areas and exceptional value for money.

Although the room was very clean, spacious and all in working order it could have done with modernising a little in line with the bar/restaurant areas. This is not really a bad point only my own preferance to hotel bedroom decor.

"Overall a nice hotel and a pleasant stay. The staff were clearly working hard to make the experience a good one." (108079235)

Lovely breakfast - beautifully presented. Room was small but comfortable and well fitted out.

Needed the window open otherwise too warm but since room was facing the front, it was very noisy - even during the night. Some expertise in setting up wireless networking required to get internet access to work.

"Very good value. The staff were excellent and the owners deserve to be successful; they have set high standards and it was a very pleasant way to start the holiday." (108043820)

Food excellent both in the restuarant and the breakfast room. Staff (duty manager in particular) and Will & Trond were very welcoming and friendly.

Rooms need updating in decor but were spotlessly clean. Little nosiy from the traffic.

"I have to say that the hotel filled all of our needs and expectations As we had not been to Selkirk before we had no real questions beforhand. I think that although the hotel is undergoing modernisation there is no dissruption to the guests. The lounge area is great and the dining room not big and not small. The bedrooms do require modernising but they are in no way unpleasent the on -suite is modern and as with the rest of the hotel clean and fresh. Our room was fine and the bed comfortable the sheets clean and white all that you expect from a hotel. All the other guests that we spoke with seemed pleased as well. This hotel should be tried if you like good food, good service and a clean and fresh enviroment. The breakfast offered loads of choice and i was impressed to see a good choice of gluten free foods on all of the menus including the resturant." (97283359)

The service in this hotel is excellent and the food was really good with a good choice for both meat and non meat eaters. Also great choice of Whisky avalible. It is certainly great value for money many more expensive hotels do not have ths level of service and choice.

nothing except i wish we could have stayed longer

"I would have liked to have known Selkirk a bit better. A bit of a ghost town except at night when the local teens gather in the square and cause mayhem shouting and bawling until 2am in the morning. When we arrived we took a short walk oround the place and decided to have small refreshment in the local Cross Keys bar where they didn't have any draught lager or ice available (run out!). That night we took another walk along the main street to The Place bar and discovered it was shutting down the very next day to be turned into a restaurant. Not a lot to do or see in Selkirk but very handy for visiting other more interesting Border towns. I WOULD recommend the hotel to anyone but would not recommend sending anyone to Selkirk." (97377363)

The restaurant, bar, staff and owners were fantastic

Room in drastic need of overhall i.e. bed was on blocks of wood, slightly damp smell as you went into the room

Comfortable room and bed. Excellent breakfast, freshly prepared and beautifully presented. Public areas freshly decorated and carpeted. Off street parking.

Room decor a bit dated. Bathroom a bit small, no bath, only shower. Front bedrooms overlook market square which was a bit of a hangout for noisy local teenagers until "wee sma' hours"!

Restaurant pleasant, service good, and food excellent -probably the best hotel meal I have had for a long, long time.

Broken sash-cord in bedroom window. some of the decorative painting was untidy. Extremely echoic street outside which curtailed sleep.

"The bar and restaurant appear to have been updated and these areas are very modern and comfortable, especially as a single traveller. However the reception and the bedrooms are still in the old country style inkeeping with the age of the hotel. They look odd in comparison to the rest of the hotel...maybe I stayed mid-renovations? Nevertheless, the bedrooms are clean and comfortable and warm. The whole stay was enjoyable and the food in the restaurant was delicious! They even made me a fried egg butty for my breakfast!" (97054474)

The hotel was very welcoming as you walked into the bar/lounge area.

"Generally a good experience. The proprietors are working hard to get this right. When the points above have been addressed this will be a really good place to stay." (97433455)

The food, particularly the breakfasts, was good. The dining room staff, notalbly Patrick & the lady who was Duty Manager (can't remember her name)were excellent. Friendly, efficient.

Parts of the hotel were still a bit run down, but this is being addressed. The appearance would be enhanced if the little courtyard outside the dining room french window were tidied up & planted. Our shower room was very small & had we been large people we would have had difficulty using it. Option of a bathroom would have been good.
