    "A very positive experience." (107237230)

Helpful staff, excellent restaurant, quality of room, location

Shortage of toast at breakfast - probably the cheapest, most easily prepared and universally requested fare on the menu, but both mornings there were problems! Full amount not given on 'meal on us promotion'.

"We had a great weekend and would return to this hotel. The fact that the bus service is so convenient means that you don't mind being a couple of miles outside the centre and this hotel is far cheaper than the city centre hotels of the same standard." (107248655)

The hotel has had a refurbishment and the rooms we stayed in were of a very high standard. I think some rooms are still awaiting refurb but are still of a reasonable standard. If you want to go into the city centre, there is a bus stop next to the hotel - the bus takes about half an hour to get straight into edinburgh city centre. The bus runs from 7.30am - 11.30pm. Whilst at the hotel, we also used the gym and pool, which are another great facility of this hotel.

There is only one small lift so it is better to take the stairs if possible.

"Before booking this hotel I would have liked to have known that there was pool/leisure facility on site. To my recollection this was not mentioned in the description provided by the partner website, and as a result I came unprepared and thus unable to use these facitlities. However, I don't feel it hindered my enjoyment of the hotel or indeed the quality of my stay. I am very happy to have stayed in the Edinburgh Capital Hotel, and would definately recommend it to friends and I would stay there again if I need to be in Edinburgh in the future. 10 out of 10!" (97050391)

Clearly a lot of thought went into making my stay very comfortable. The room was exceptional, especially considering the low cost, the staff were more than helpful on numerous occasions and the hotel on the whole was beautifully presented.

Nothing. It had everything I needed for my one night stay.

    "Disappointing" (97605270)

Friendly staff. Good standard of room in original room I was assigned.

Late night events created noise throughout half of the hotel. I asked for a quiet room on my booking and found myself sitting on top of a sixth form disco. i changed rooms but they could only find a lower standard family room. Food from the hotel restaurant was not great - although this is only on the basis of two meals. I did not pay for breakfast.

disappointed in that we ordered early breakfast for 6.30am as we had a flight to catch.breakfast did not arrive and I phoned reception to be told it would arrive shortly-but it did not.when we checked out i raised this and was asked if we had booked breakfast this was with the person who took booking.it is vary disappointing as we had to spend a further £9.00 at the airport for the breakfast which we had paid for at the hotel.it would be nice if we could have this refunded as a goodwill gesture.

"Wrong side of city for our purposes which was to visit university re daughter's impending university stay. Too far out to enjoy a night out in city centre, nightmare journey through city centre to get back onto A1 South - just not suitable for a 'fun' stay in Edinburgh. More for families who like to be in bed by 10.00 am" (97089780)

Free parking, size of room, bar, quiet location

Location was nightmare when it came to visiting city centre - too far out, lengthy journey by bus, expensive taxi back after night out, unclear instructions from receptionist re buses.

It was accessible, convenient for public transport as well as private car. The room was large and airy.

The towels were inadequate. I consider a bath towel as a basic requisite for each guest. The bath was not cleaned properly after our first evening.

The staff were friendly, courteous and very helpful with local knowledge, and easily controlled a large group of other customers when they were being very disruptive having had too much to drink. Very satisfied and would definately stay again, or refer to friends" (99159048)

"Our stay was ok but nothing special. Our hotel double room was quite nice but we had an extra single bed in the room which i'm not sure if we were charged for or not. Our bedsheets were very itchy on the skin and the water from the shower was warm at best. The bar area was relatively dead in atmosphere, however the food we received was very nice. The receptionist was very keen to have our account payed for on arrival rather than departure, which i found slightly unusual. The waitress was very helpful when i asked her about entertainment in the area." (99054367)

Position relative to airport and shopping

Room smelled stale, as if it had been a smoking room and had not been refurbished since; floorboards were very creaky, shower had a curtain that was not heavy enough leading to it 'attacking' anyone in the shower.

"Staff were very friendly (although restaurant staff were less so) and the hotel was clean and pleasant. They could have done with more staff serving behind the bar to meet the needs of their guests." (99155191)

The executive rooms had a very comfortable king size bed and plasma TV. Nice touch with bottles of wine, apples & dressing gown.

The people in the room above woke up at 6am every morning and we could hear them moving around. The room was also right next to a communal door which was constantly in use. The desk space was not conducive with working and one of the lights above the desk didn't work. The room key constantly failed to ope the door and had to be changed on 3 separate occassions.

"In Edinburgh in August it is quite difficult to find reasonable accomodation at a reasonable price. This Best Western Hotel in Edinburgh cost four times the amount that another Best Western in Fort William charged us a few days later. The OTT price also does not include breakfast whereas other Best Western Hotels in Scotland often do. I can really recommend eating breakfast or dinner here, the food is excellent and the staff are really friendly and efficient. Try and avoid any interaction with the female check-in staff at reception, they could really spoil your day. The room we had was very clean, well equipped and a good size. It was quiet but no air-conditioning. The bed was large and reasonably comfortable. The bath/shower very clean and worked well." (3305142559)

We thought the dinners in the hotel restaurant were of good quality, well presented and cooked really well. The Scottish girls serving in the restaurant were very welcoming, friendly and good at their job.

The staff at the reception were unsmiling, abrupt, curt, unfriendly, and unwelcoming. We had to carry our own cases upstairs to the third floor.

Hotel location was good. Front desk service was good. Braekfast was good.

The bathroom had a strange smell. I asked for a double room and a twin room, and was given 2 twin rooms. Room service would not allow me to book the food and wine I ordered onto my room bill and had to pay cash.
