The rooms were large in size.

The decor needed a good spruce up. The wallpaper in our room was falling off in places.

"When arriving at the hotel we were greeted by an incredibly rude receptionist who insulted all members of our party. AS young professions, we are all used to having to spend a considerable amount of time in hotels i can honestly say it was the worst service i have ever received. Your receptionist is truly terrible." (97446538)

the room was clean and the bathroom very acceptable

A good central location in Bath.

I was upgraded to an executive twin room yet still the shower and also the bath taps had faults. Breakfast was good and freshly cooked to order." (97861110)

Great central location. Nice room. Very comfortable bed - the best ever slept in! Car parking price reasonable and a space was available. Porter also helpful.

Wine prices are expensive as is the Breakfast. Good choice of food though. Buffet style with plentiful hot and cold selection.

we were given a free upgrade without asking to a 4 poster bed on arrival which was lovely. the receptionist staff were very friendly. the position of the hotel was excellent. although we only stayed the one night the hotel looked after our bags the next day free of charge. would definately recommend and stay again.

the hotel was in the process of being renovated but we didn't hear or see anyone during our stay. the room was a little tired but its a very old building and it did not put us off at all.

"I did some research before I booked this hotel and I was not disappointed with what I found. There is a lot a history to the hotel itself from it's beginning as houses to the bombings of the 2nd world war. Well done to everyone at the Francis for making our stay wonderful." (97362278)

The history of the hotel. The magnificence of the hotel. The cleanliness, the friendliness and helpfulness of the hotel staff. In total just about everything.

I am pleased to say there was nothing that I was dissatisfied with.

Nice room that was different to the mainstream hotel look, very spacious and quirky.

Equipment in the room like the fridge, stereo and TV are old and cheap, all could do with a desperate upgrade.

Lovely drapes and bedding. Plenty of hot water and good facilities in the bedroom. Very little noise from within the hotel.

Squeaking floorboards - both in our room and the room above us. Quite noisy from outside (but this is a main road and was expected).

On checking the radiator, it was found to be stone cold, phoned through to reception to find out how to put it on, and was told that the heating did not come on until 8pm! Thankfully, housekeeping bought us a portable heater which quickly rectified the room temperature." (99464265)

cost of breakfast at £13.50 per head is expensive, so we chose to eat out.

Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and as a woman travelling alone, I felt very comfortable. The hotel's location right in the centre of Bath was excellent. The rooms were a good size and the atmosphere was very warm, especially in the lounge area.

I was disappointed with the Caffe/Bar area. I was hoping for a cosy experience but the lighting and furniture did not entice me to go in - it rather looked like a cheap cafe. A change of tables and chairs and some subdued contemporary lighting would make a world of difference. My son and I ventured outside the hotel when we wanted a snack and a drink before dinner. Sky tv and better internet access with printing facilities is always a plus.

"Although the hotel is a traditional style hotel set in a wonderful location in bath, I would have expected the television in the room to have more choice of channels with probably the most basic of the sky channels but it did not even have teletext. Apart from the above, the rest of the facilities offered were very good although I think that the extra charge for payment by credit card should have been pointed out at the time of the booking." (99473693)

Spacious, clean and very comfortable. Staff very helpful and efficient.

TV in room only had 4 basic channels with no teletext. Not too bad as only staying one night but wasn't able to catch up on news as had missed the main news programmes.

"This hotel is very freindly, clean and welcoming, the beds were really comfortable and the bathroom was a very good size. The hotel was in a great location, just 5 mins walk form all the shops, bars and resturants. We stayed for three night and did not want to come home, we could have stayed for a week. The only thing I would say about the hotel was the fact they charge £8 a day to park in there car park. I think the parking should have been free for hotel guests." (3304389799)

"The hotel had the feel of being very tired and used. It did not give the impression of a quality hotel and I thought that it was not a great advert for either Bath or your hotel group. It was over priced for the quality it purported to be. The most awful thing was the personal hygene of the cleaning staff in the morning. The BO was so bad of one cleaner on Sunday morning that we could smell it through our room door! When we left the room to go to the reception the whole corridor was filled with a disgusting BO smell that was so strong it overwhelmed us and nearly made us sick! It was dreadful!" (3305078866)

    Very little. It was fair!

The decoration of the hotel and the corridors were very shoddy, and grubby. Chipped paint, damaged doors and walls, damaged and marked doors, peeling wallpaper, etc. I found that this was alittle insulting to the guests! Your hotel is not cheap but you seem to be happy to expose us to a cheap looking environment.

"I was very disappointed at being woken at 6am. My wife is 8 months pregnant and we had booked this overnight stay as a break leaving our 2 1/2 year old with my parents, specifically so that we could lay in past 7am and get some rest and relaxation before the new arrival. Loud music woke my wife at 6am coming from below, presumably the staff starting work. I feel that this was quite unacceptable. The hotel itself was lovely if not in need of some rennovation and the location is excellent. Most of the staff were attentive and helpful bar one who was quite rude to my wife. Breakfast was overpriced and we chose to eat elsewhere. My wife has worked in the tourism industry for many years and has wide experience of hotels and has never before been woken by the staff listening to loud dance music, a real shame, we would have used this hotel often had this not happened." (3304871060)

Central to city, nice surroundings. Most staff helpful and didn't mind early check in/late check out. Good selection of teas and coffees etc in room.

Some staff verged on rude. Carpet in room in need of repair. Breakfast was very expensive. Loud music at 6 am woke me up, came from downstairs (perhaps kitchen where breakfast was being prepared?)

"The hotel was centrally located and very handy for visiting the numerous attractions in Bath. The breakfast choice was excellent value for money and the staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was spacious and well decorated, however it was let down by the air conditioning unit which was not working, so it made the room unbearably hot, and the fan in the bathroom kept running for over half an hour after turning out the light. However, I would stay here again and would recommend it." (3304695603)
