"They are in the process of updating all the rooms" (108017598)

great location, good breakfast, staff pleasant, clean

Bathroom in need of updating, shower blocked and noisy, dull lighting, no headboard on bed, bed was 2 singles put together. Not really a famiy room as we had requested

"Convenient and rooms clean but a bit shabby. N.B. This is B&B not really a hotel!" (108079096)

Easy to find using SatNav and not too far from town centre - 10 minute walk. Friendly receptionist but a bit flustered as she was alone on the desk and took phone calls whilst checking us in, resulting in an overcharge - which was quickly rectified once we knew about it!

Obviously in the middle of a refurbishment as there were lots of uninstalled new fixtures and fittings hidden in various corners around the place and a large untidy skip right outside the dining room window. Breakfast was only served between 07.30 and 09.30 and as we needed to be away by 07.45 (business meeting) we only had time for a cold breakfast.

"The St. Clair was an excellent value for our money. It was not luxurious, but it was clean and had a perfectly comfortable bed - just what we needed since we spent most of our days away from the hotel anyway. The staff was very friendly and accomodating for example: even though we were a bit late for breakfast one morning they still served us up a hot breakfast sandwich, and I did not bring a hair dryer with me but they were happy to lend me one for the duration of my stay. The location is convenient as it is only about a 5 minute walk to Queen's Square." (97447336)

Walking distance to most points of interest in Bath, friendly staff, clean room

Room was small so there wasn't a convenient space to place our luggage

Cute room, good location, friendly helpful staff, no curfew!

  • 9/10 Anonymous (Family with young children)

"The hotel has been under new management since October, and the new owners are clearly working hard to upgrade the accommodation, hence the lower standard of the common parts (not done yet), and the smell of paint in our room (just done!). We were expecting the breakfast to cost extra, but were pleasantly surprised to find it was included in the price - it was also of a very good standard. The tv in the room was very high spec and there is now wi-fi internet available too. We'd like to return in a few months by which time we're sure the hotel will be further improved. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. It was a late booking for a family of four at peak time, so we feel lucky to have found it! Compared to the reviews we'd read, we were pleasantly surprised by the experience." (97508011)

Friendly staff, overall good experience, great breakfast, good location.

Common parts are not good, room was small for the price (but it was Easter). Paint fumes in room were a little strong, we needed to leave the window open for most of our stay.

"Overall experience was good, but place needs redecoration and needs more faclities in the room like sky tv." (97055571)

    easy access,pleasant staff,nice breakfast

Not very clean, can do with new furniture, old fashioned, reception usually empty

  • 9/10 David (Young couple)

"The St. Clair is convenient to all the historic sites at Bath, and the proprietors were more than friendly and helpful, especially helping us with planning our Stone Age exploration of the surrounding environs. We wish them the best of luck and hope to stay with them the next time we're in the area." (97480086)

The room was cosy, and the bed was comfortable. Although we only ate breakfast at the hotel, the food was delicious.

The room still smelled of fresh paint, but they'd only finished painting it the night before.

    friendly

There was quite a lot of noise from the road outside the window. This together with anxiety re: the event the following day (which I was in Bath for), meant i could have slept better. I reccommend either window shutters, triple/double glazing etc.

"Bed and Breakfast were simple and adequate, Bed was clean Bathroom was clean.Everything was just adequate, it lacked a wow factor. But the price was also adequate. It needs a good thorough spring clean. it is old and worn, tired looking, the rooms need to be displayed on the website, Tatty door locks, . To attract a better clientelle it would need a complete re-vamp, and for gord sake get a decent kettle that reaches the table top.Unsuitable for disabled persons. Too many steps and stairs." (99100255)

    Very welcoming and pleasant.

Needs massive refurbishment. To keep up with the modern way of Business travellers.

Reception has definite opening times in the morning so if you need to check-out early be sure to tell them in advance. The rooms are basic and the bed in my room was not the most comfortabel I have ever slept in, but for the money it was OK." (99795880)

Must not be too critical though - we cant all be the life and soul and they seem to work well overall! It did not affect the enjoyment of our stay, and we would certainly stay there again." "we were very disappointed. to be honest we got out of this accommodation at first light the next morning. paid the outrageous charge for the night stay. to compare this Saint Clair to the hotel we moved to for the duration of our stay in Bath, was really quite remarkable. Sure, it was on of the bigger hotel chains but lucky for us they had one of the last rooms in town vacant for the 'new year' weekend. my point is it was the SAME price. same rate for glorious pleasure. Shocking. all we can say to the Saint Clair - what an outrageous price to charge for such a pathetic room" (99958506)

the movement of other parties in rooms above went on until 2am, dreadful disruption of sleep from thin and creaky floor/ceiling. handbasin sink leaked on bathroom floor each time we usedit. shody ceiling in bathroom, erosion was a bit creapy to shower beneath. poky room. television buzzed.

Friendly comfortable atmosphere and easy access.

got a bit distracted about a smell inside of the hotel-that kind of older builidings have -mixture of older carpets and age.I am quite sensitive to smells of all kinds so when we walked in second time i thought that teenage people(sitting in the hall) who never even saw any deodorants should not be allowed in :).but again there you only get what you payed for and me being sensitive does not mean i am intolerant...(after all,we all have been a teenagers once and you are not gonna sleep downstairs in the hall with them-room was very nice)
