"Very poor service at check in, check out. Power cut during our stay didn't help create a good impression, as did the lack of flexibility about my cirmcumstances. I won't be staying here again or recomending it." (107291689)
I booked a double room and didn't have any choice about whether it included breakfast or not. it ended up that I stayed in teh room by myself, and although happy to pay for teh room rate, I didn't feel i had to pay for 2 breakfasts. When i asked for a discount at check-out I was told this wasn't possible. A friend of mine who checked-out a few minutes later was offered a 25% due to a delyed check-in because of a power cut.

"Before booking the accommodation i think we should have been informed that we would be paying on the day, we booked on the internet but when checking in were told we had to pay £120 then." (97064452)
The bedrooms were beautifully decorated with good amenities, e.g. water and bath stuff.
The cleaner left the cleaning materials in the room which would have caused me concern if i had a young child.

"The service was attentive, with staff acknowledging you if you passed in the corridors. The views were stunning from the front of the hotel, yet none of the public rooms really make full use of it. A queue formed at breakfast when you arrived and it took too long for someone to attend: in fact one or two more waiting staff would have made all the difference, esp as they knew the hotel was full with wedding guests. The courtyard bar is a great space to relax, but the drinks are expensive and there are no bar nibbles on offer. The bar food we ordered from here was not really of four star quality: taste & presentation did not justify the cost, and this was really a let down as the closest competition (pub!) is a car journey away. I cannot comment on the restaurant food. At the end of the stay, the bill did not reflect the cost I'd achieved through the booking site ie they tried to charge me more. This also happened to another friend that day, although his difference was £80! In fairness, they did amend the bill, but moral of the story: take your paperwork with you." (97991478)
The style of the rooms, although it was a bit dark in the daytime. The hotel is rather sprawling making it difficult to a quick dash to the room difficult!
There was no fridge or mini bar in the room, and one bottle of water to share. In addition, we had only one set of towels and so had to ask for more.

Bedroom was very comfortable. Good to have bottled water provided as standard. Room service was reasonably priced and efficient.Restaurant coped very well with a busy breakfast after a big wedding party.
Leisure facilities lacked cleanliness. Didn't appear to have a hotel questionnaire to make this known to them.

"There is little to fault following a stay at Shrigley. Signposting and directions are easily followed and the spacious drop off area at the front of the hotel is a real advantage. However, access to the hotel from the large rear car park is not so adequately signed, and first time visitors may find it a little confusing.. Check in is usually super-quick and there is always help at hand to assist with luggage. Rooms are spacious and in the main well decorated. Provision of bottled water and bathrobes is welcome. Dining is of a high standard with a good, varied menu and some excellent favourite wines are available. The breakfast experience is similarly pleasant with an excellent choice to suit most tastes. Overall, one of the very few hotels I stay at, on a regular basis, which sets a high standard and sticks to it !" (99197010)
Very calm relaxed atmosphere, supported by attentive and generally helpful staff. In my many stays, the overall standard of accommodation, quality of the food and attitude of the staff has never wavered. A rarity these days.......
It would be difficult to be critical as the overall standard remains high, with few if any negatives. If pushed, I would have to say that the lighting on the pathway from the rear car park to the front of the hotel is barely adequate and could constitute a safety hazard for some.

Newly refurb'd and very comfortable. Well equipped room
Made the mistake of parking at the rear of the hotel as signposts not so clear. A long walk in the dark with bags - I will know for next time

"My impression of Shrigley Hall Hotel is that it is an efficent and well-managed hotel. My only complaint is that I reported my trouser press defective to reception, and whilst they responded no action was actually taken. However, in all my stay was pleasant and extremely good value. I would consider returning for a leisure break." (99951124)

"The hotel could not cope with the amount of guests that were booked in. Breakfast was chaos both mornings - had to wait 25 minutes for a pot of tea because they had run out of teapots. large queues both mornings. guests had to wait for tables. the new years eve gala dinner was atrocious - the soup was cold; the tart was inedible: the main course was miniscule and the dessert looked and tasted disgusting. Too many people crammed into one room therefore guests could not get on the dance floor to welcome in the new year." (99471272)

"We enjoyed our stay at Shrigley Hall, however, it would have been beneficial to know just how far the rooms were going to be from the breakfast/restaurant, and reception areas as the walk up and down stairs was quite a trial for my mother-in-law who is 86 and has difficulty walking any distance and tackling stairs. I did mention her limited mobility when booking the rooms and was pleased when we checked in that we were on the ground floor, but I did not realise the distance involved in walking to breakfast until the following morning. The noise from the corridors made by other guests was quite disturbing and it did not take much effort to make noises which residents would find disturbing as there was little fabric/soundproofing to the corridors/doors. I do realise that the behaviour of the guests is out of the hotel's hands, but on our visit - they were not being particularly noisy as such, any sound seemed to travel with very little difficulty. However, judging by the decor in other parts of the hotel, I would assume that the area we stayed in was probably due for refurbishment. I would like to mention how efficiently the staff dealt with us when the fire alarm went off during our first night. Much as it was disturbing to be woken for a false alarm (set off by a drunken guest), the staff dealt with the situation very quickly and efficiently, giving us information promptly, they were extremely helpful. Overall, I would like to return to Shrigley Hall, it is a beautiful building in a beautiful setting, and the facilities are very good." (99254406)
The facilities in the room were very good - the shower was excellent. The staff very warm and friendly, and particularly helpful.
The room decor was a little tired looking and in need of refurbishment. There was very little soundproofing from coversation/noise coming from the corridor which made it very easy to be disturbed at night. The room was also quite a walk from the main reception area and restaurant which made it particularly arduous for my 86 year old mother-in-law who has limited mobility.

We checked in too early, so went to the bar for lunch. The lady at the checkin desk brought our keys to the bar. Small but nice touch you don't get in all hotels these days.

"Our room was not ready by 1400 hrs so we were offered an upgrade, Room 274. This room ajacent to boiler,so noisy that vibration could be felt on the wall. Forced to change room at midnight! Also to get internally from this room to reception , 40 steps needed to be negotiated. This was not pointed out to us at reception .We are in our 70's and would not have accepted this room if we had been informed accordingly.Eventually obtained a suitable room, but had to negotiate a refund which I felt should not have been necessary. Food good but wine expensive. However may give them another chance to impress." (3305061390)

Nice hotel, good service, lovely grounds
Considering the room was a premium room it was small for 2. Also it overlooked the beer barrel storgae area for the bar and they replaced the barrels at 6am! many rooms seemed to have a similar aspect.

"The disco from one of the wedding receptions kept me awake at night (however I did receive a discount on my room charge when I complained) and my sister and brother-in-law who were in another room was woken by revellers outside in the courtyard in the early hours. The hotel was crowded so there were queues for a table for breakfast on Saturday morning. Many rooms in the hotel are currently being refurbished - hopefully these will be brighter and better sound-insulated! I imagine that guests staying mid-week have a much quieter and pleasanter experience than we did!" (3304124048)

Excellent room with super balcony offering panoramic view over golf course and distant trees. At night we could see (but not hear) the landing and taking off of aircraft - we did not wish to be on any of them, we had all we wanted where we were, including the weather
There was no fridge or bar in the room, and as it was south facing it got very hot even the very welcome supplied water became warm.

"The staff were polite, helpful and courteous. The hallway of the hotel was particularly impressive as were the grounds. The dinner in the restaurant was very nice although a tad expensive ,(as were as the wines!). My biggest criticism is concerning the rear entrance of the hotel (which was more convenient for us to use ), there were 'open' dustbins on show. The designated waste disposal area was in need of repair(broken fence panels/gate) and was obviously not used. This was a shame, because i really did enjoy my stay." (3304538646)

"The location and outlook/view from the hotel was breathtaking. Accessability wise, it was about 20 minutes at the most from the Motorway and Airport, so much more cost effective than staying at an airport hotel. I would recommend the hotel, especially in terms of value for money. Shame I was there on business, and couldnt have shared the experience with my wife." (3304451153)

Lovely established hotel in great grounds. Staff on reception and bar extremely helpful.
Presume that the standard of room reflected the Budget price (I feel it would be fair to assume that those guests paying the full rate would be assigned the best rooms). My single room was a little tired (wallpaper stained from velux, furniture badly scratched, bed had it's day but confident this is on the list to be addressed) Could do with a spare blanket - although excellent central heating was available, it's nice to have a cooler room but be warm in bed with plenty of covers. Hotel could do with a mobile phone mast nearby.....

The grounds were beautiful and so was the building itself. The spa facilities were a real highlight-very relaxing.
Bottle opener in the room! There was a complimentary bottle of wine, but nothing to open it with... A better variety of food on the room service menu. The food we had was very good, but choice was quite limited. Dressing gowns in the room would have been very nice.

"I had heavy bags to take to my room and was unable to gain access to the main reception area without negotiating approx 6 outdoor steps. Also, my room was situated off a mini-landing which again required climbing several steps. Parking at the front of the hotel is very limited and I was fortunate to find a space. These initial difficulties were off-set by the helpfulness of the staff and the overall excellence of the hotel. The evening meal was well cooked although many of the table staff did not have a sufficient grasp of English to cater for special requirements. The Active Hotels Discounted Rate (£45 B&B), taken together with the Special Rate for a 3-course evening meal (£15), provided exceptional value for money. I would however offer one word of warning to anyone thinking of using the hotel as an overnight base before travelling into Stockport or the Manchester area the following morning - Don't. The route joins the A6 at Hazel Grove and, at rush hour, this stretch of road is a virtual Car Park (nearly 1 hour just to negotiate the phenominal number of traffic lights in the main street)." (3304236561)
An excellent top quality hotel set in scenic countryside. Well signposted from the main Macclesfield to Hazel Grove road.
Ramp access should be provided to the main reception area and the car park (at the front of the hotel) should be expanded significantly.

Room was reasonably spacious and very quiet. However, it was a long way from reception and public areas and the staircase was very steep. If I were staying again, I would want a room on a lower floor or the main building.
