"Very pleasant" (97088547)
Evening meal at the hotel was very good and enjoyed by all at our table. The hotel had a homely, cosy feel.
Entrance locked when we came back at 23:00, bell for porter not working. Luckily we had the telephone number with us or we might have had to spend the night in the car.

"Generally good but not great. Close to town which has pro's and con's." (97351362)
The room was spacious, nice views, bed was comfortable, generally a quiet area. Everything worked (TV, kettle, hair drier). Staff were friendly, nice breakfast choices.
There is a football club just up the road from the hotel. On one night there was alot of noise outside, sounded like drinkers from town, but there were police outside and lots of screaming and shouting, this was about midnight. The next night I was lying in bed when myself and my partner heard our door being unlocked. My partner got up to see what was going on, and it was a member of staff asking if we were in the honeymoon suite, which was confusing as we were not and staff should know where rooms are. So that was unsettling and I kept thinking someone would come in our room.

"Merthyr Tydfil is a pretty depressing place but the hotel was away from the immediate centre and well signposted with brown tourist signs. The hotel is quite old fashioned, with fabrics and decor that came from the 70's. However, there is adequate parking and the restaurant (which is popular with local people) has a good variety on the menu and is reasonably priced (as is the wine)but if you don't like sauces with your meat (Thai, Chinese, Chasseur etc.) you won't have much choice. The breakfast was OK. We didn't see the point of the rather naff 4 poster bed." (97225069)
The room was large, the hotel surprisingly quiet and the food and staff were both very good.
The shower head didn't work, neither did the trouser press.

The comfort, friendliness and overrall quality of the hotel
The central heating in the hotel was a little too high and there was no way of turning the radiators down in the bedroom

"We were very satisfied with the information that was on the web regarding the hotel. I wouldn't say it was an excellent hotel but it was very friendly and down home feeling which is what we like." (99648616)
The friendliness of the staff!!!! Couldn't do enough for us. It was just about 2 blocks away from the center of Merthyr Tydvil where we were doing genealogy research so we would walk down each day. Great exercise for us.
The bed!!!! We had to sleep on it for 9 nights and our backs were so sore each morning when we arose!!!!!

It was ideally situtated for Cyfartha Castle where I was attending the Donny Osmond concert.
No hot water so had to wash in cold/luke warm water. One of the bedside lamps didn't work. Bed too soft and lumpy.

comfort, cleanliness and the staff were very attentive.
am sorry to say, the food, it seemed to me as if it was, eg.tinned soup, and thought the meat had been sliced from a precooked joint, and then overheated. having said that, my breakfast was excellent.

"The hotel is well signposted, parking is a bit tight. It is not clear if it is OK to park on the road when the car park is full. Food was good and general atmosphere was good. Some waiting staff need a little more training." (99475350)
Warm cheerful atmosphere. No problems with arriving late. Very nice bedroom.
The waiting staff the first night in the dining room were not attentive. I had to get my own menu, order drinks from the bar and had to ask someone to take our food order. Very sloppy that night but good the next one.

"Already covered above. Food was excellent." (99860531)
Food and service in Restaurant.
No light / light switch within reach of bed. Lack of efficency re booking-in, whereby we had prepaid for 2 rooms on Company credit card and this was (initially) disputed at check-in, and we were also (initially) asked to pay for the rooms again on our own credit cards when checking-out.

It was clean, comfortable and homely. A friendly place to stay and the midday check-out is much better than the 10am requested by many hotels.
My only complaint would be that BBC2 was channel 3 on the TV. We were pleased with everything else.

"My son and I visited for the WRC Rally Wales therefore we arrived late and left early each day due to the distances required to get to the stages. The hotel was very warm, nice after the cold in the mountains, the staff pleasant and the resteraunt food good. I had no problems with paying at the end of our stay, also the price was very reasonable for a good quality hotel in a quiet part of town conveniently placed for major routes." (99111342)

"Enjoyed. Breakfast in bed was nice at no extra cost. Nice bar, very friendly service, great location and also nice and quiet with secure parking. Also have the bonus of vacating the room at 12 and not 10 like most so if you are escaping there to get away from the screaming kids - that's a nice feature. Little problems like the room being extremely warm due to the heating but it was okay later in the evening, plus a less than adequate shower (poor water pressure) in our room which was dissapointing as it was an executive room at a cost. All in all though, much better than other hotels we have stayed in for a similar price so 8/10. Thanks." (3305479464)
Nice Hotel, Great location.
The shower wasn't very powerful and quite poor for a suite but the bathroom was nice. Room was great although was extremely warm as radiators were on full blast. Room was fine though when we returned from our evening out.

Would recommend making a comment on the site about its eating facilities so as not to disappoint. This is the third time we've stayed there and will certainly go back." (3304732055)

"I'll book here again, definitely. Very clean and tidy old building with various modern additions. Nice staff, nearly all seem to be locals. Food excellent and well-kept real ale in the bar. I was lucky with the room, I know, but it was lovely. The hotel is in a peaceful spot and a Good Beer Guide listed pub is about 5-10 minutes' walk away 'round the corner in Morgan Town." (3305167345)
Handy location. Spotlessly clean hotel in quiet spot. Good food and (amazingly) good beer! I was allocated a very nice room.
I had a great stay in the main building but I'm not sure I'd like the lodge-style accommodation ranged around the car park as it's all ground floor.
