"See the above. Our children would like to return with us in the near future.   " (99902301)

Excellent accommodations.  The owners and staff were very good to us.  The food is excellent.  The food and drink is comparable to any that we found in the area. Very good value for our money.  We will stay there again in the future.

"It could be a great hotel because the building and the situation are very nice but everything seems a bit old. It is not worth the price." (97194333)

The situation. The hotel is very quiet. Meals and Breakfast are good.

The hotel is a bit old. The shower did'nt work well. It was either hot or cold, never warm. The VMC didn't work either.

"Lovely big rooms with nice views but need a good sprucing up! Owners on holiday so being run by family member, very short staffed, had to go looking for someone to check us in and check us out." (97072346)

Large rooms but in desperate need of decorating, bath panel was coming away from frame round bath in one room, no remote for TV in other room. Nice views though!

Decoration of rooms. Reception was very untidy, boxes lying all over the place and stacks of clean linen on the floor.

Friendly efficient staff & good food. Close to where my business was being conducted.

  • 7/10 Mark ( Solo business traveller)

"Friendly, attentive staff, excellent breakfast and generally good value. Unfortunatley the general interior condition of the hotel is starting to look a little 'worn' and is overdue for a thorough upgrade and decoration programme." (3305542957)

Country style setting, well away from the noise of the city and yet still convenient for reaching commercial customers

    In need of refurbishment.

"The only thing I needed to complete my stay was wifi so I could access my e-mails but I do appreciate that's not available everywhere - and possibly either an iron or trouser press. There may have been one available but there was no information to that effect. However its a lovely old building - in a quiet location close to the centre of Motherwell and I would happily stay again." (99664639)

Very comfortable room and the food was extremely good

A bit chilly until the heating was turned up - but then it was a wet cold day

  • 9/10 Hugh ( Mature couple)

"The online booking process was straightforward and contained good directions to the hotel. We were delighted with the room. Although initially sceptical about the inner plastic covers on the pillows, we actually found them comfortable and, I suppose, from a hygiene point of view, they are a good idea. Would definitely stay again." (3305500537)

The room was spacious and well maintained.

"River dam outside room quite noisy. Althouth this didn't bother me, other guests might object to not having been informed of this prior to booking online. Otherwise, an enjoyable stay; delightful location. Easy access to Glasgow & Edinburgh by car. Excellent food, both evening meal & cooked breakfast." (3305247363)

    Friendly & welcoming

  • 10/10 Ana ( Other)

"I have to say the we really enjoyed our stay, the hotel is lovely and clean. The staff were nice and meals lovely. The bedrooms are of a good standard we will stay a again it is a good point to stop off on your way to the highlands. The bar is a must see with the water wheel in it." (3305253251)

I would reccommend this hotel to anyone, it was lovely and clean. The room we had was quite big and lovely bathroom.

the only little thing is that the music can be a bit loud from the wedding parties.

  • 7/10 Martin ( Solo business traveller)

"Only complaint I can think of is the location of the hotel, I must say I was very impressed with the helpfulness of the staff" (3305233702)

The location of the hotel, it is too far away from tne shops and public transport

  • 8/10 John ( Mature couple)

    from Cambridge , United Kingdom;GB  on  August 21, 2006

"This hotel is surprising because it is an old building in a rural setting beside a mill stream, while being close to the centre of Motherwell. It is also convenient for the M74. The service was helpful and pleasant, creating a friendly atmosphere, and the price was reasonable. The food is certainly not bad but not as good as the atmosphere leads one to expect." (3305181381)

The atmosphere and immediate surroundings of the hotel, and the service given by the staff.

The evening meal was obviously carefully prepared but surprisingly tasteless.

  • 8/10 Michael ( Solo business traveller)

from Newcastle upon tyne , United Kingdom;GB  on  August 20, 2006

"The food was excellent value and cooked to perfection, a very good menu and well presented plate with enough food to satisfy a hungry traveller. Staff were very friendly, helpfull and professional. I would definatly recommend this for a stop over or a short break. However the location is a little way from the main town and a taxi ride would be required if you where going out. Saying this the location is very plesent and relaxing." (3305209017)

Large bedroom and bathroom, decorated to a resonable standard,

The boiler for the hotel was situated in the bathroom and boosted up every 20 to 30 minutes

  • 7/10 Lesley ( Other)

    from Leslie , United Kingdom;GB  on  August 16, 2006

"Nice location for a hotel within a large town. It was quiet, except for the waterfall. I thought that this would keep me awake but it was actually quite soothing. The grounds were attractive but the garden furniture could do with renewal. The hotel function suite is very nice and appropriate for the wedding reception we attended. The restaurant is very nice, we had a most enjoyable meal and breakfast was served quickly. There was a nice homely feel about the place. I had a new bathroom with a good shower, but the room was 'woodchip and artex' and could do with upgrading." (3305150314)

fairly new bathroom nicelocation attentive staff food was good

In room 2 ~room door difficult to close unless key was in lock ~ no handle! the mirror was positioned such that you could not sit at the dressing table and see! The dressing table was very shabby and squint. Others in party did not comment(3 single rooms).

"Beautiful setting yet close to where we wanted to be, the room was immaculate and lovely, large room with doors leading to garden where we would have been able to enjoy time out had we been staying longer, which was a real pity. The reception staff were 10/10, breakfast was excellent and overall homely, friendly atmosphere would definitely return." (3304913904)

Really gorgeous large room with private garden!

  • 6/10 Anne ( Other)

    from Irchester , United Kingdom;GB  on  August 14, 2006

"We would like to have been made aware that the rooms on the ground level were not to the same standard as the upper floor the ongoing improvements should be posted on the website, also the fact that the do not have any reception after 11pm.The staff at this hotel were friendly and very helpful and made up for the problems we encountered,I hope to be able to visit in the future and enjoy any improvements being made." (3305089587)

This hotel is situated in a very pretty location and the grounds were lovely, also have to mention the assistant manageress who was extremely helpful.

Initially room allocated was below standard with a very dirty en-suite but when asked we were given a much better room, we were told that there is ongoing improvements to the rooms but it would be best to ask to see accomodation first, also felt more like a guest house than a hotel, reception is not manned 24hrs and main doors are locked and most of the lighting switched off outside at around 11pm, given the hotels position this made it rather unerving to venture out in the early hrs although a key to front door was given.

"Beautiful location, friendly and accomodating staff.Excellent value. Cooked breakfast had to be pre ordered the night before, but this was a small price to pay for excellent hospitality." (3304801432)

Friendly staff, warm welcome, good breakfast and large room.

Although the room was large, decor was not the best (woodchip wall paper!)Could do with a bit of a refurb. This was the first time I have stayed at The Old Mill, and therefore don't know if this applies to other rooms.

  • 7/10 Pauline ( Mature couple)

    from Barnet , United Kingdom;GB  on  April 26, 2006

"For the time we were there, I think the hotel was fine. The breakfasts (being the only meal we had at the hotel)were excellent with good choices of cereal and fruit being on offer. The service and manners of all members of staff were most friendly and helpful and there is definitely no complaint in that area. If the shower/hairdryer situation were different, we would have been quite happy had we been staying longer. Overall, a very pleasant couple of days and we will be returning." (3304534607)

I found the hotel to be very comfortable and the staff exteremely welcoming and the service by them excellent. Our room was large and airy with a lovely view of the river.

However, in decoration it was looking a little tired and in the bathroom, I missed the use of a proper shower and although a very large room, it lacked facilities to keep toiletries etc. A shelft above the handbasin would have been extremely useful and perhaps a stool or small cabinet to keep your bits and bobs off the floor. There was also no hairdryer supplied which for a longer stay would have been most inconvenient as I didn't think to take my own.

Easy to find, due to good signposting, and general facilities very good. Nice bar and restaurant with pleasant staff. View from restaurant over the river an added bonus.

I found the power shower did not function correctly and because of this I had to use the bath which was a bit small for me.

"A very pleasn't place to stay. Food was fantastic and the staff very friendly and polite. Not something that the hotel can help, but there was virtually no mobile signal." (3304408525)

Room was much bigger than expected (room 11). Food in restaurant was excellent.

Quality of TV was poor - picture was weak and TV made a constant buzzing noise while switched on. In room radiators were turned off when the room was cleaned which meant the room was cold when returned to in the evening (winter/spring stay).

Very enjoyable and wonderful value for such a lovely place. I will be making a point of returning very soon as part of a travelling holiday this coming summer. Thank-you for the hospitality." (3304273476)

Staff and owners were first class in there attitude and presentation, food of very high standard.A very comfortable hotel which still maintains it's wonderful past.

I am quite sure that if any improvements need making the owners will have already thought of them because i cannot think of any.

from Milton keynes , United Kingdom;GB  on  October 17, 2005

"This is a 'characterful' 1970s conversion of a watermill - the gear is intact and the bar is built 'round it - in a hideaway location, minutes from central Motherwell. Oddly, the bar is in the basement, the restaurant is on the top floor and the function room is in between them, next to the kitchen! The bathroom in my room was newly refurbished. The room had a wonderful view out onto the river and old mill-weir, and loads of space. I got the impression that I was lucky with the room and that others may not be as good, but I don't know this for a fact. The restaurant was dominated by a large party including a number of not-very-well-behaved children and infants around a long table in the very centre of the room. Paying guests were definitely second fiddle. I ordered a steak which was totally overcooked- a shame as the meat, like the veggies, was superb. The chips were virtually uncooked. I'd certainly stay in this peaceful, friendly old place again, but I'd look to eat elsewhere." (2835639)

Amazing view from room (#7, I recommend it!), friendly staff, hideaway location

Not very clean (especially certain areas of the bedroom), bathroom had no shower, restaurant dominated by private party which could have been held in the function room.
