"The directions to the hotel provided with my booking confirmation were very poor - I had to ring the hotel twice. This was frustrating as I had been working late and spending an extra amount of time driving in the dark was tiring." (97878320)
Very quiet situation with lovely grounds and friendly staff.
Radiators didn't seem to work and I was cold.

"This place is fantastic...the staff are VERY welcoming and friendly. The rooms were beautiful as are the public areas of the hotel. The hotel is set in gorgeous grounds, complete with sheep!! A real oasis of calm. Breakfast was great, freshly prepared using lovely produce. Hope to go back at some point in the future." (97175992)
The location, proximity to train station, beautiful grounds

"Good location, easy to find. Room advertised as a suite, but was just a bedroom with too much furniture. I found it difficult to get help from staff to get directions or to leave the room key at 21.00 in the evening." (97588181)
At 21.00 unable to find any staff at reception to get directions to another venue or to leave room key. No hairdryer in the room - took 15 minutes to get one at reception. Room advertised as a suite - it was a bedroom with too much furniture.

"We have originally booked the 4 poster bed suite, but on arrival that hadn't been booked by Active Holidays, so we could only stay in a Queens suite, however the room was very well equipped and decorated, and very very large with jacuzzi bath and shower, so perfect." (97141367)
Nice friendly staff, nice hotel in lovely surrondings

on first arrival got a terrible shock on how terrible the place looked for the price of the night, when booking this hotel it should of stated that it was getting refurbished it looked more like faulty towers, very old,i wished i had stayed in a bed and brekfast in town for half the price.

It's cosy and historic background and some wonderful periodic furnature.
Just the poor shower and the late check in and early checkout.

"There was a very warm welcome on arrival and the room was well equiped although decoration is becoming a little needy, bathroom had a rather erratic shower and a shower curtain wouldn't have gone a miss. Overall service in the hotel was excellent and I would return" (99168617)
room was spacious and quiet, well equiped.
for such a large room there was only a standard size double bed (not king size)

"This hotel need lots of attention, the public rooms are ok but the bedroom was about as bad as it gets without walking out. We just call it our fawlty towers weekend" (99524057)
food was good though we were not told it was only a continental b/fast
the room was dirty, furniture was falling to pieces, had to ask for towels

"Overall, our stay was very relaxing in a hotel that was very sedate, but a bit too quiet. We found the hotel to be rather dated and there could be room for improvement however the hotel is surrounded by beautiful gardens and the views were amazing." (99082772)
Friendly hotel, a little dated but very clean, the grounds surrounding the hotel was beautiful and the views were amazing
We found the hotel to be rather too quiet, a little dated, the bedroom was delightful, however there is room for improvement, the bathroom could have done with a revamp. The food was very nice but very expensive!!

"A charming country house hotel from the outside, but quite a few deficiencies on the inside. Decoration from the 50's, with fading photographs of long-forgotten stars of radio and television. Public rooms are comfortably furnished, but my bedroom was shabbily furnished, with uneven floorbaords, ill-fitting door on the bathroom, and generally giving an air of neglect. An additional problem manifested itself on leaving the hotel, which claims to be only 5 minutes from the M56. That depends on the time of day - leave at 0800 and you'll sit in the Frodsham traffic snarl up for 20 minutes before you are clear of the village." (3304855913)
Picturesque surroundings, olde-worlde feel. Good food and attentive service
Poor standard of fittings in room, hand-held shower in bathroom, external windows filthy.

Tired old hotel, with worn out rooms. And very expensive for what it was.

"We think that the reacreational activities were overadvertised, or the staff was too busy to tell us about them. The room layout was excellent but the condition was an unpleasant surprise." (3304608830)
Location, property itself, friendly atmosphere
Restaurant was closed during our stay(indicated after reservation), room was in fairly poor condition (wobbly beds, bathroom door lock did not work, tiles had cracks and seals missings, light fitting looked old and tired, some broken, radiator thermostat did not work.

"Really can't criticise anything apart from the decor. Both the staff and the food were fantastic - ideal for a quiet weekend in the country." (3304502567)
Clean, comfortable bed. Large bath.
Decor.

"Dinner in the restaurant was superb and I would highly recommend it. The staff and owners were extremely friendy and helpful. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable experience which I would not hesitate to repeat." (3304438228)
Fabulous setting in a very peaceful location. A small and very welcoming hotel where your custom is appreciated and you are treated as a valued friend rather than a paying customer.
Slightly disappointed that it was a continental breakfast that was served at weekends rather than a full english. The shower was poor in our room.

"We had a very pleasant stay. We would have liked to have been informed about the works xmas party in the restaurant as we would probably have chosen to eat eleswhere if we had known there was a dinner dance on. We expected the restaurant to comply with description on the website which stated it was a la carte, with crystal and china wear instead we had a set menu with limited choice." (3304011881)
Lovely large room, hotel in nice setting.
shower was not very good, and they should tell people about the extra sitting room because myfriend and i went to our room instead of having a drink because the lounge was full and we did not know about the other room

"well signed and easy to find. Received very quickly and shown to the room. lounge is very small and was fully occupied so nowhwere to go other than the room or restaurant. no area to sit at the bar. although B&B was advertised there is no english breakfast at the weekends this would have been a factor in booking. didnt eat there but the restaurant was given good review by my family and is definately popular with non residents so you need to book early." (2907181)
looked for an old romantic building with lots of history in the countryside. hillside location with a wonderful view, nice big comfy beds.
Decor needs a refit inside especially the bathroom, lots of creaky floorboards and bed creaked a lot too. Not ideal for young people. Early breakfast and checkout times.

"the hotel was in a beautiful setting and offered comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price. The staff were particularly friendly and we were treated as individuals, unlike many hotel chains in this price range." (2825691)
the setting and the staff
the external appearance was rather charmingly shabby, but could be spruced up.

"Room big but scruffy - poor bathroom - TV did not work well. Appalling lighting - no bedside light- horrible overhead lights. on the positive side - very quiet. Dinner (2 course) was OK at £9.95 but to be charged £2.50 for one coffee and £3.50 for an indifferent pudding is high.Had to wait for someone to serve me breakfast- bacon was horrid- overcooked and dry. Sausage was nice." (2726231)
The situation - in the country and very quiet but convenient for Warrington area
Reception and dining rooms OK but other than that very tatty and needs renovation.
