"Pity about the room as the rest of the hotel was worthwhile. But I am not prepared to overlook the downside and would not stay here again." (108054955)
Staff service good, food good quality
Room antiquated. Bed uncomfortable. Walls very thin - first night extremely interrupted sleep through noise (mainly snoring) from adjacent room, which is totally unacceptable in a room costing £95.

"It's in a beautiful spot and has tremendous potential as a country hotel. Just needs to be cleaner and better maintained. We received a good discount when we booked & would stay again but only at a strongly discounted rate." (108057445)
great location and the food was good
Bedroom good but the bathroom was not clean. Soap left in shower from previous occupant, dirty bath and tiles.

"Good clean friendly Hotel" (99824680)
The host was a typical courteous country publican
It was a bit out of Aberdean. So a car is best but it was good.

"I like this type of hotel, great for relaxing after a demanding day at work. I particularly enjoyed the evening meals. The meals were first class. Unfortunately, the cooked breakfast did not live up to the evening meals (Sausage not cooked to my liking - brown all over - topside brown probably grilled and bottom side looked raw). Having noted these things, I did like the hotel and would book here again since this questionairre gave me the opportunity to point out the issues without wanting to cause offence." (99671939)
The accommodation was comfortable and local to the organisation I visit.
Rooms were a little cool for the time of year and blinds were a little ineffective in the bathroom.

The room - nothing matched with table covering and bedspread looking like something bought in a charity shop

The restaurant.
The reception was efficient but not too friendly. Even had another guest's bill attached to my credit card payment receipt.

"I stayed in the hotel for a week and although it is quite far out of Aberdeen, it is very handy for Dyce, via a B road. Its in the quiet village of Newburgh, which has a local shop (and thats about it!) Overall, the hotel is clean, well presented, warm, has adequate (but rather dated) room fittings, and has gorgeous views of the neighbouring golf course etc. The staff could not be more helpful, and there was always someone on-hand to help. Food was amazing, especially the free cooked breakfast. Only thing that can be said about the bar food is that its quitre expensive. Overall, I had an enjoyable week and I would recommend this to anyone." (3304513841)
Excellent service from staff, goregeous views, and amazing cooked breakfast!
Price of meals was very expensive.

"when we saw the Udny Arms advertised alongside the Waterside Inn etc we expected a more luxurious hotel than it was. The food was good, though expensive for the amount on the plate. We were happy with our stay but only because of the reduced rate of £50 per night B & B for us both. I really don't feel it was worth more than that." (3304516282)
was quite comfortable
no view no double-glazing

"The room I was originally booked into is not in my opinion fit for purpose. It was drab, stained ceilings from roof leaks? My head would have virtually touched the ceiling when lying in the bed. I expect modern touches such as walk in shower or a shower above the bath as a minimum. The room I transferred to was good, however it cost an extra £20 for the pleasure. I believe Swallow group should have met this cost after supplying a substandard room. The staff were 1st class, the food was good. The heating was excellent." (3304412879)
Public rooms, Staff very good
Upgrade and refurbishment of rooms. The public rooms were very good.

"The hotel is a little far from the towm but there is a bus-stop close by which goes into the centre of Aberdeen and also to the Conference Centre. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, but the room I stayed in was unclean. The bedside table was very dirty and I found nail clippings on the floor, which did not appear to have been hoovered properly. The bathroom was not as clean as I would have expected, and when I lifted the lid of the teapot in the room, it was full of old tea. Whilst the room, furniture and decor were not new, cleanliness was by far the main issue." (3304340857)
Staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was fine.
Overall the hotel would benefit from an freshen-up as far as decor is concerned and the rooms could be considerably cleaner.

"Overall I would say that you get good overall value for money. Don't expect satalite TV in your room or up to the minute room decor, it's not that type of hotel. You are a person and not just a room number!" (3304182089)
Friendliness of staff and homely feeling of the Hotel. I am always made to feel very welcome.
Since being taken over by the Swallow Hotels group not much has changed, thankfully, although the menu has changed, twice, and I am afraid to say it's not as good as it used to be.

"The hotel is on the main high street at Newburgh - traffic noise for a large part of the evening and again in the morning." (2894086)
Bed comfortable, staff polite
Room lacked a shower and lacked hot water to run a bath. Despite being advertised as a non-smoking room, room stank of cigarette smoke.

The rooms could have been cleaned more thoroughly. We found a spider which had been dead for some time in our room. Could also play some music during meals.

"This hotel has a view of itelf as grand, and it is in some regards, but I would have been happier if they had the forethought to put the heating on in the room at least three hours before letting. It is disconcerting to enter a cold hotel room, and it took a long time to heat up. I did not feel that it was welcoming." (2797884)
The room was cramped. The room was cold. In particular the shower/toilet room was very small and very cold. The TV could have freeview or equivqlent.

"The hotel needs upgrading then it would be good as it has a nice location. The food is good but the dining room needs some attention - maybe white tablecloths would be better than worn out tables. I have actually told all my golfing friends to find another hotel!" (2137971)
The restaurant food was very good if a little expensive for the surroundings
The rooms were very poor and old fashioned, our room had a cracked basin!

"I would be happy to stay in the Udny Arms again. It was clean comfortable and well appointed. It has an old world feel, without being stuffy. The food was excellent. The staff were efficient and friendly. The only reservation I would have as a business traveller would be that the morning traffic en route to Aberdeen can be pretty bad." (2179127)
The Udny Arms is a very homely & comfortable place to stay. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The food is excellent.
