"I am used to staying in really good hotels as I travel a lot on business. While the Petersham is up there with the best of them in terms of location and some staff, I won't forget the service at breakfast which was very poor - they really should address this - it really let the hotel down. First step I'd suggest would be employing some staff who could speak English and who generally looked like they might remotely care about what their job was. It's the one thing that has stuck in my mind about the stay which is a shame." (97956423)
I thought that the staff at reception were exceptional. I used the hotel to get ready for my wedding and they were great. One guy in particular was just wonderful - he remembered my name everytime I popped down for something and was just a star. Really great service from the reception team. They even made a point of getting my room ready well in advance of when I needed it.
The service in the breakfast room was extremely poor. We had to repeatedly ask for more butter, more toast, milk and sugar weren't on the table, the staff were indifferent. At least one couldn't understand English. It was really disappointing and surprised me given the quality of service elsewhere.

"I booked an economy single room and found the room comfortable and equipped with all I needed, including shower caps, shower gel, hairdryer. The room was small and facing onto a back courtyard, but this was no problem. The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable." (108023715)
Excellent location with views of the Thames, boats, bird life and cows in the meadow. Courteous and friendly staff. Period building is elegant with a sweeping staircase and quiet, unfussy ambiance. Restaurant offers top quality cuisine. Very generous breakfast with wide choice to cater for all tastes.

Dining in evening and tea
Reported problem - in room safe stuck closed - not fixed. Overhead lighting in bathroom made it difficult to shave or for my wife doing makeup (Needs a mounted wall mirror.)

"Although disappointed my single room had no views and on asking for a change found that no single rooms had a view I decided that I would have to enjoy a long leisurely breakfast each morning to accomodate this loss. My room was small and slightly tired looking but other than that it met my needs for 7 days. The staff on a whole were exceptionally friendly and while using the computer in lobby several nights to complete a test for the seminar I was on I felt we became friends. For me the breakfast was a little too greasy and not the best I have tasted and although I was specific with my quantity they did not always listen and gave me more. No Good if you wish to lose a little weight. On the whole I had a wonderful relaxing experience at the hotel which was good as my seminar was intense and draining. Great night sleep every night." (97143944)
For my purpose location was excellent. On arrival views were outstanding. Evening & night stay were very friendly, warm and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Having parking was a plus for me.
Disappointed that single rooms have no option but to have no views what so ever. Why should a single room be penalised. We all like views. Especially when we have them at home. On Tuesday, Wednesday & Sunday the Maitre D needs a personality check. I have never come across such a sour faced lack of personality person type person in a position that's role is to serve people, your guests. I noted several dissatified guests on his days. If he doesn't like to smile and be friendly and take note when a precise order is made he should either leave personal matters in the car park, go on a training course or find an alternative profession. The other morning Maitre D's were excellent.

"Richmond being my home town and living there for many years, the hotel was a place I knew and admired. A remarkable building situated in an amazing landscape and to stay there was delightful. Additionally the close proximity to town centre, river and park meant that I could walk with ease from the hotel and not have to take the car!" (97293527)

"Our only problem was the bar at The Petersham had surprisingly poor atmosphere considering the position,it seemed an afterthought rather than a pleasant central facility.I would have it in the neighbouring conference room and expand the restaurant as we had a long wait for breakfast due to limited tables there." The rooms and the food were very good, also the majority of the staff
Why are all the rooms non-smoking?From July 1st 07 that will mean there will be not be anywhere to smoke inside the hotel. Also, until then, why is there not a smoking section in the restaurant?More than 1 in 4 of the population smoke.

"I have stayed already a few times in the Petersham hotel and it gives you a great feeling staying there. The Victorian style of the hotel is well safeguarded. Prices are at the higher range but the great atmosphere and excellent dinner absolutely matches the costs associated to it. No negative surprises in that sense." (99145163)
I stayed in one of the single rooms which are small but adequate if you just need the room to sleep like I did. The hotel has a great Victorian atmosphere and you feel easily at home. the dinner was of a high quality and prices were in line with the quality of the hotel.

"The hotel is in an excellent position with great views of the river. Staff were excellent and the breakfast very good. I would have asked for a room on the shady side of the hotel though during a heatwave as I always forget English hotel rooms don't normally have air conditioning." (3304684891)
Although only a single room, everything was included. Very comfortable and cosy.
The toilet was difficult to flush and the shower head was wobbly. The room faces south and was very hot as the curtains hadn't been drawn prior to my arrival.

Wonderful river views, comfortable, clean, well equipped (but see below) and a shower that worked!
Amazed that you do not provide hospitality trays, given the room rate was £273 per night! That early morning cup of tea is a must for me and I don't want the hassle of ordering from room service first thing in the morning.

"It was an excellent location very central for visiting London. Pleasent walks along the Thames Path just a few minutes from the hotel. Made to feel very welcome nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. The bathrooms are luxurious, very clean, lovely range of complimentary products available and fluffy robes. River view rooms have simply stunning views. Food in the restraurant although a little pricey was of an excellent quality and offered a superb menu. Everyone deserves a speacial treat and for us this was it." (1901199)

Its a beautiful hotel overlooking the Thames. The staff are very helpful and the concierge is very knowledgable on local logistics. The location is very handy for visiting Twickenham rugby stadium.

"The friendliness and efficiency of the staff, the quality of the food, the comfort of the room, the character of the building and the stunning view from our bedroom window across a beautiful stretch of the Thames. The close proximity to the Thames enabled us to enjoy a wonderful walk along the river to Hampton Court, and, in the other direction to Kew Gardens. There are also an excellent choice of restaurants in Richmond itself, which is close by and in easy walking distance - as is Richmond Park." (1965242)
