"Good hotel. Great value for money. Nice good. Staff friendly" (97875028)

The staff were excellent. Very helpful and friendly. The was a wide range of breakfast food, which was very nice, and regularly topped up by the chefs. Nice views to look out onto whilst easting your breakfast. Room was kept very tidy by the maids and fresh towels were provided every day.

The furniture in the room was a little dated. The view from our room was not great as we were looking out onto a courtyard, rather than the views of the Lakes. The wadrobe cubicale needed some diy work done to it.

The rooms were very well decorated, the bed was very comfy! We had an excellent view of Kendal with a balcony. The complimentary breakfast was absolutely delicious, even though it is slightly expensive it is definitely well worth it!

The bathroom needed a bit of updating, paint peeling off the walls etc.

Efficient and friendly staff, cleanliness of all rooms, excellent choice of food in the restaurant and for breakfast. Very relaxing atmosphere. Enjoyed listening to the pianist in the restaurant.

Not sufficient hot water when running a bath.

The staff were very helpful and efficient. Most appeared to be local and knew the area well and were able to direct us to the walking destinations we were looking for. We were given copies of maps to assist us, which was appreciated.

"This a decent hotel - getting a garden view room is a MUST - the other 50% of rooms have a Car Park view ! Dinner in the restaurant is excellent - they have a great chef there - breakfast and other meals less good but still OK. Dress for the occasion - it is worth it, and hard on a top class chef when the guests turn up dressed like window cleaners. Rooms are closely packed together - open a window while next door guests are on their balcony and they could be in the room with you !" (3305281326)

Views from the room, dinner in the restaurant.

Pretty small rooms, paper-thin walls !

"I felt the hotel was easy to find, but wish I had known the walking distance to the town. There was plenty of parking space. The grounds were charming. Peaceful to walk around or and sit in. The reception staff were very welcoming and informative. The pool and gym area were popular and very clean. We dined at the pub in the grounds. The food was varied, well presented and the waiting time was well within the time given. Good choice of wine. The breakfast was delicious. Plenty of variety of juices and water, fruits , cereal, and with healthy options or belt busting full English." (3305006498)

    The calmness of it all.

I believe a non smoking room was requested but smoking had been allowed in the one we were given

It looked and felt like luxury at a reasonable price. The facilities & surrounding area around the hotel were excellent and we were spoilt for choice what to do next. We didnt see as much of the countryside as we had hoped because the hotel facilities eg: gym, swimmingpool, bar & restaurant & pub were so intising. We are definetly going to stay there again.

    from Mitcham , United Kingdom;GB  on  September 4, 2006

"In spite of some niggles, our experience was generally good. We would be happy to stay here again if we were in this area. I should have been told when booking that I needed to reserve a table if we wanted dinner. We had to go elsewhere. The sign pointing to reception applies to the able bodied only. It should be made clear at the entrance to the car park that disabled persons probably need to use the main entrance, which is at the rear, so not at all obvious to newcomers. The lift is not adjacent to the main entrance." (3305250303)

Mainly clean and comfortable. Very good beds. Access for disabled but you need to make your requirements clear when booking.

Shower too hot on lowest setting and not accessible to disabled person. Iron not working. No drinking water in room. Dirty marks on carpet.

    from Cardross , United Kingdom;GB  on  August 7, 2006

"My only criticism is that the public areas and dining room were very hot and stuffy. I appreciate that it was an unusually hot spell but there was no ventilation / air movement in the dining room or any of the public areas. As an acute asthma sufferer I had to keep going outside the front doors to a seat in a cool area where I met several other asthma (4+) sufferers who also could not stay inside for too long either. Unusual weather patterns aside, I am surprised at the lack of ANY apparent venitlation in the dining / public areas. This did spoil what I supect would otherwise have been an enjoyable stay." (3305111249)

    Clean & comfortable.

Stayed during a very hot spell. Room very hot with no natural ventilation - used own fan. That aside room was very satisfactory.

it wouldve been nice to have been met at the station in oxenholms rather than finding a cab. the hotel did call a cab for us both on arrival and departure. we learned through experience that taking busses to grasmere and windermere were far better than cabs.

"Having booked a non smoking room we were disapointed to be allocated one for smokers. However we were given another room without fuss, but was dissapointed with the shower that we were unable to regulate properly. It only had one control for both water flow and temperature, so we had to endure freezing cold water until the control was turned right round and the hot water began to catch up. Our Friday evening meal suffered from a lack of kitchen staff resulting in very long delays between each course. The food and service however was excellent." (2860054)

    The setting, and staff.

Administration detail and the functioning of facilities such as the plumbing.

Our room surprised us by being a suite, shame about the view, but apart from that clean and very comfortable beds with duvets. Check out was also very efficient. We enjoyed it so much we would have liked to be able to stay on further, and will certainly consider it for a New Year visit in the future." (2865382)

"The dining room was superb but this was discovered after a contact said do make sure you dine in the hotel. Generally the staff were attentive and welcomed you at all hours. The price was competitive and the location superb." (2465066)

    Clean,fresh and welcoming

One member of staff in the dining room conducted her own personal affairs with other staff without consideration for guests present. She appeared unaware of guests anyway!

"The hotel is a little way out of the centre of Kendal and a car is essential. The breakfasts were excellent (we did not take dinner in the hotel) and reception was efficient. The rooms we had were small but satisfactory. Some details should have been picked up before our stay. Quite satisfactory but scope to improve." (2689027)

A nice hotel but with limited parking facilities. There was a damp 'musty' smell in our bathroom. Some minor cleanliness issues in our room. The room for our daughters was fine.

Improve the car parking which is too little for guests and visitors particularly at function times (weddings etc).

Could have done with a toilet brush in the toilet. Shower was not totally suitable for a 6ft+ male as the head was not adjustable.

Very clean. Neutral decor. comfortable bed.

the room [Room 136] was very noisy. People talked loudly late at night as they went through the doors to the executive/conference wing. Also loud delivery van collecting laundry in the early mornings.

If travelling to hotel from the North, it is easier to take junction 37 rather than the recommended junction 36. Taking this junction leaves a straight 7 mile trip directly to the hotel, which sits on the right." (2611211)
