Large bedrooms, friendly atmosphere. Ideal location and grand old building. We had a very relaxing weekend break.

You can tell the Majestic has been a very impressive and exclusive hotel in the past. Sadly it is now looking a little tired. The hotel requires re-decoration all the way through both inside and out.

"I got a very good rate for my stay but as you will see from the above comment the first night was very poor. Also I asked for porrige for breakfast and it was so poor I could not eat it. However, all was redeemede by the staff at reception who when I complained about my room immediately changed it and upgraided to a delightful room on the second floor with no extra charge" (97654724)

The ambience of the public rooms was good

The first nights was extremely poor - the bed was short and the mattress lumpy. the blanket was a felted ancient apology for a bed covering. I was astonished that a four star hotel (albeit refurbishing) could have presented a bed of such a poor standard.

Excellent location, rooms were very spacious, staff were excellent, dinner was also excellent.

Paying for parking, being billed for breakfast without having had it, ceiling in room falling down, for the price of the room £140.00 per night I think breakfast should be included.

Reception very helpful, moved us to a room higher in hotel as there was a do on the Friday and Saturday nights and we might have been disturbed by the noise. Had an excellent meal in the restuarant on Friday evening, good value for money. Very attentive staff, helpful but inobtrusive." (97734197)

The room was big and comfortable with views over the town, the check in process was handled in a friendly and professional manner, breakfast was pleasant and the staff were all very friendly and willing to go the extra mile to make our stay memorable. We have no complaints and would recommend it highly. Can't wait to go again!" (97674343)

The room was very large with two king size beds, a 3 piece lounge, big wardrobe and still plenty of space to spread out

A very grand building and very well situated in Harrogate.

The whole hotel felt tired and tatty. My room had cobwebs on the ceiling and cracks in the plaster in several places.

"A good central location and a pleasant stay." (99174447)

Old fashioned, traditional hotel which is just what we were looking for. As retuning customers we found that the hotel has improved since the last time that we stayed. Staff were friendly and efficient and very helpful.

Food was a bit variable depending on choice made. Breakfasts were very good.

"I should certainly stay at the hotel again, though perhaps as a solo woman I would make arrangements to get back late which didn't require me to walk through the grounds from the road, which I found uncomfortably dark." (97484771)

It was extremely spacious, well-laid out and had an excellent view. Little extras - such as the quality of the soaps and shampoos, and the splendid bath-robe - were of high quality.

I found the bed - which I believe was two twin beds pushed together to make a large double - somewhat uncomfortable, with a rather thin covering.

"We really enjoyed our stay and think that the fact we had a smart room made a big difference, especially given the miserable weather. The restaurant staff really were exceptional." (97108469)

Efficient and very helpful staff (especially in restaurant); our room - a refurbished one - was contemporary and chic with a great bathroom and enormous, comfy bed. Evening meals in the restaurant were also very good and excellent value. Access to on-site leisure facilities and swimming pool was a real plus.

Car parking on site at £7.50 a day is an insult! we chose instead to park gratis in a street 200yards away. Breakfast was good overall but why not REAL scambled eggs?? Leaking and cracked roof into leisure complex, with strategically placed buckets on soggy carpet to catch the rain, is not what you'd expect in a 4* hotel.

One week later we stayed in a hotel in Reading , costing 1/3 the price and had a choice of mango, melon, pineapple, orange grapefruit kiwi fruit and blackberries, all fresh, for breakfast.Which hotel would you recommend?" The external appearance of the hotel was very impressive, but the service and facilities did not live up to expectations.

Dinning IN is a definate must, such a pleasant atmosphere & a more delicious A'la Carte meal i have yet to try, astounding value aswell. A little bit more information about the swimming/sauna facilities would have been helpfull on arrival but readily availabe on request. A Hotel with real character that I cant wait to return to." "It was a fantastic building drenched in exciting history & the leisure facilities were excellent. However this was overshadowed by little care given to interior design, maintenance & attention to detail. Hotels in the 21st century can not survive on history alone & investment on the surroundings is needed to ensure repeat business." (99677210)

The history, the customer service, staff & the architecture

The interior decor was worn & very mis-matched pieces of furniture & styles. Also the majority of the decor looked grubby, shabby and old.

"This hotel clearly has a great deal of history behind it and was obviously quite a splendid place in its time. However it is now in need of a major refit to bring it up to date. I Was impressed with the bathroom in our room, but about the newest thing in the hotel. The trouser press and hairdryer looked as if they came from a car-boot sale. This sort of thing can be easily fixed. However, on a more general note, everything is just old. The doors around the hotel, the lifts, the windows are all old - and I don't mean 'old-quaint', I need old-worn-out'. To get this place up to its past splendour will be a huge and expensive undertaking. The question is, can Harrogate's tourist and conference industry make it economically viable? Having said that, the room rate reflected this and I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel." (99361983)
