Clean, tastefully decorated rooms. Helpful staff.

No mugs at breakfast time. The whole breakfast system is very badly organised.

"Good, but we also later stayed at a "full: Holiday hotel in London just off Heathrow Airport (that one would normally suspect to cost more due to location) which was 50% less expensive and had much larger rooms and full shower/bath tub. However we would stay at this Holiday Express again if we are back in the area." (107166967)

Very clean and had great staff that handled our one problem very quickly.

Had a plumbing problem which caused us to be moved to another room, but it was well handled by the hotel staff.

"Pleasent stay, not sure it is value for money esp if travelling alone. Weather always improves thing and gets you out the hotel." (107116573)

    Reception staff excellent.

Lift out of order for the entire stay. Small TV for modern hotel.

"Overall, accommodation and staff provided good service. 'Peripherals' as above could improve the enjoyment of the stay. Breakfast was a bit 'corporate' drab and uninteresting but satisfactory. A discount for forces would attract a few more people." (97959367)

Excellent, no fuss booking, check in/out. Clean functional accomm.

Another coffee in the room would be good. No radio on the TV channels. Excessive cost for email connection.

"Except for the major hitch checking in the remainder of the stay was fair." (97641876)

It was clean, warm and dry

The check in was a farce, was told I had not booked when infact a member of staff had messed up the data input

  • 8/10 Anonymous ( Family with young children)

"very clever designed room - all space was used as good as possible. intriging feature was the door which gave access to the shower/toilet - it was only one door -> my daughter thought this the best bit of the room continental breakfast buffet - term of only continental breakfast does not do the buffet right as continentals thinks of a continental breakfast of only 2 pieces of bread, 2 pieces of butter and 2 pieces of jam -> this was much more Very nice also the complimentary newspaper. Perhaps it is good to advertise with the possibility to have dinner closeby (same parking ground)." (99312152)

    good value for money

perhaps the noise from the outside

Very heavy smell of smoke and strong perfume smell

  • 6/10 Anonymous ( Young couple)

    it was clean and comfortable

the charges were expensive, the cost of drinks at the bar were also high. Braekfast was ok but for 90 pounds a night i would have expected a cooked breakfast and there was shortage of milk on one morning.

"Overall this hotel is excellent value for money although unlike a normal Holiday Inn it has no restaurant ther is a Pub across the car park that serves excellent food at good prices. The hotel is very clean and well presented with a very modern look. The rooms mirror the modern feel and are very comfortable, although I didn't like having to use the room keycard to be able to activate the lights. The staff were very friendly and helpful and were a credit to the hotel. It is an ideal base for holidaying around the area or just for a business trip I would rate it at 10/10." (99370673)

Very clean, well presented and modern

having to use door key to turn on lights

  • 8/10 Simon ( Family with young children)

    from Barnsley , United Kingdom;GB  on  August 7, 2006

"The check in was good. We were tired and were impressed with the cleanliness of our room and the willingness of the staff to help. Even though the hotel was completely full someone was able to help set up the cot bed etc. The bedroom was very hot however a fan was provided. In the morning a continental breakfast was provided. This was a bit of a free for all, you became very aware of the numbers staying at the hotel at this point. We sat at coffee tables to eat, however the food was fresh and freely available. We were on route to Cornwall and this hotel broke up our journey, I would have no hesitation in using it again." (3305095274)

The hotel was clean and well ordered. In spite of being completely full on the night we stayed, high standards were maintained and we were dealt with efficiently.

It was a very hot night in the middle of a heat wave however the bedroom was stiflingly hot. A fan was provided but it was difficult to sleep.

"Accommodation was as expected vis the description on the website, weather was hot so disappointing the room was not air conditioned, however realisation of requirement was only on arrival. Sofa bed for our two young chidren was not made up and so we had to inquire of reception staff of items. Otherwise everything else was as expected given the known level of service provision." (3304965639)

    Clean,tidy,functional

    No air conditioning

"First class stay at the hotel, Iwas wary about booking and didn't expect rooms or food to be up to much, but everything was far superior to a lot of places we've stayed." (3304439921)

We really liked the quality of service by the staff, they were very friendly and helpful. We didn't expect the breakfast to be up to much but the variety wa very good, we didn't find one thing to complain about, every thing was good value for money and we will certainly book with you again.

"We were looking for a hotel in Exmouth but all quality accommodation was booked. As we were also visiting friends in Exeter, we decided to check availability. The four star hotels were again fully booked, but you had a room available, and, as it turned out, you were ideally located for easy access to both Exmouth sea front and Exeter shopping via Park-and-Ride. The room was perfect for what we wanted, the lie in before breakfast was very welcome, and the continental breakfast was quite sufficient. Staff helpful and friendly." (3304548239)

I found the accommodation to be comfortable and quiet.

"There is a park and ride opposite the hotel. Return trip to Exeter Centre was £3 for a family of 4, well worth the trip and more relaxing. One side of the Hotel faces the road which can be noisy at times. We asked to be moved and this was done without hesitation." (2681130)

The room was very clean, as was the rest of the hotel. The breakfast was excellent, more then enough food and choice. The staff were very helpful with plenty of smiles - good service all round.

"Althought the room was very good, unfortunately the position overlooking the main entrance was not ideal as we do like to sleep with the windows open. The noise from arriving and returning guests did not allow uninterrupted sleep. We would certainly request a room away from the main entrance in future. The remainder of the transit stopover was very good." (2830304)

Everything was fine but see comment below.

"I would have liked more clear directive on line about booking a non smoking room - we were given a smelly stale smokers room and ther was no option to change it. I don't recall having ticked a box to say that was what I wanted. Not a hotel to stay more than a night in as there was no choice of menu and very limited seating areas available - most of it dominated by smokers." (2707045)

    white cotton bed linen

The breakfast, both food and service. very poor choice of food - its years since i,ve seen tinned grapefruit segments as the only choice of fruit. the buns ran out, the only free table was dirty, had to find staff to clean it and that was hard to do! Towels were far too small in bathroom, horrible containers of soap and shampoo combined.

    clean and comfortable. good showers.

to include fresh fruit and selection of cheese and possibly meats at the breakfast buffet.

Breakfast - no cooked food available.

  • 5/10 John ( Mature couple)

    from Farnham , United Kingdom;GB  on  September 15, 2005

"It is very difficult to find a quiet room, as there is a busy road on one side (not the M5, which is inaudible by comparison) and the car park on another. On the far side of the car park there is a pub - on the night we stayed, a group stood outside the pub singing and chanting until well after closing time. We were then kept awake by people returning to the hotel until well into the small hours - both by cars coming into the car park, only a few feet from our window; and by doors slamming as guests were caught unawares by the exceptionally powerful return springs. The rooms badly need air conditioning - ours was too hot to have the window closed, and too noisy to have it open. The staff appeared very poorly trained - when we checked in the receptionist could not even tell us where our room was in the hotel. The breakfast arrangements were little short of chaotic. Next time we go to Exeter we will stay in another hotel - regretfully, because this one is very conveniently placed and not very expensive." (2721661)

The room was a decent size - partly because we had been allocated a room with facilities for the disabled The fact that there was a floor with non-smoking rooms (though the stairwells and lifts smelt of cigarette smoke)

Ventilation of the rooms, which were very hot and stuffy Training of the staff, who generally appeared disinterested. This may have been partly due to the fact that there were not enough staff to cater for the number of guests

  • 7/10 Roger ( Solo leisure traveller)

    from Bushton , United Kingdom;GB  on  September 14, 2005

"The stay was fine i found the staff on check good but check out was very take or leave it. There must have been some sort of event on as the the coffee lounge area was very conjested and extreamly smokey for a none smoker i could not sit in the area for fear of a high level of passive smoking When will it be banned in public areas i wonder. The price at £80 should have included a full English breakfast but you dont have facilitys. I could not get into the Thistle Hotel in the centre it did offer full breakfast in the £75 price." (2727703)

    Clean tidy functional

    Soap not dispencers

  • 9/10 Beverley ( Family with young children)

    from Barnsley , United Kingdom;GB  on  September 13, 2005

"The overall experience was superb; clean, friendly and efficient. The times for breakfast etc being on the website would have let us plan more effectively as they are very generous. We are used to most places finishing breakfast around 10am and so didn't plan for it being open so late. The freindliness of the staff was a credit to the company and made any slight difficulties easy to overcome." (2734278)

The accommodation was very clean, very well designed to maximise space and exactly what we needed for our overnight stop. The provision of snacks at reception was very useful as we arrived late in the evening and so did not have to spend time finding soewhere to eat.

Considering that the hotel advertises wireless networking there weren't many plug sockets in the room (two) and so we were struggling to use the laptop, charge a mobile and let our daughter watch a dvd.

  • 8/10 Claire ( Family with young children)

Location - very near to park and ride bus and a good pub.

Air conditioning - bedroom was very warm. A playpark for the children would be nice. Complimentary fruit and biscuits would have been a nice touch.

  • 10/10 Sarah ( Family with young children)

    from Newport , United Kingdom;GB  on  September 7, 2005

"It was a quick and easy checking in and out process. The hotel was well equipped and cleanliness was up to standard. Breakfast was buffet style with good quality products. The only downfalls was that the hotel is next to a very busy road and it has a regular flight path to exeter airport so it can be very noisy at times." (2709662)

Everything you needed was on hand and if you forgot anything the hotel was only to happy to supply. Breakfast was very good, choices and quality. Room was very clean and although only there 2 nights it was cleaned on both days. A very good experience

My husband found the room very warm and due to being next to the road it was very noisy with the window open. Air conditioning may be an improvement to the hotel?

Profesional and friendly attitude of the staff

Making sure the cleaners don't disturb people who have not checked out and trying to have a lie in. Twice. More than 1 tea bag per person per night.

"Overall had very good experience, at this hotel, will definately have no problems with booking again." (2363861)

Very clean, bed very comfy, and the shower, what can we say, power shower to end all power showers, wonderfull if not feeling very hot ing the morning.

Found the staff in the evening when we booked in, very friendly, and helpful, not so the staff in the morning when we left, felt they lacked the customer care skill of the staff in the evening, and during the night, when we got up and went to reception to get a drink.

  • 6/10 Millin ( Mature couple)

"Other than the fiasco with the room token, I was disappointed that there was no suger (only sweetner) in the drinks 'dish' and that we were limited to 1 cup of coffeee each due to limited coffee sachets." (2353862)

Easy to find, room clean, bed comfortable

I was disappointed that I was given a token to access my hotel room but which didn't work when I tried it - I had to leave my aprtner standing outside the room while I had to go back to reception to be told that their machine wasn't working properly. No apology. Similarly there was no 'fast-track process for returning the token at the end of the stay.

"The system for breakfasts was a complete shambles, even if guests are supposed to clear the tables, a member of staff should give the tables even a cursory swipe with a cloth. I am sure that the numbers of guests are known and therefore the lack of crockery - no cups available on either day of my stay was inexcusable; indeed on Sunday there were no knives, trays, cups or glasses, this makes it nigh on impossible to eat a breakfast, let alone clear up after oneself." (2283734)

The room was clean & the bed comfortable

    The shambolic system for breakfasts.

"Knowing that there was a family eating establishment next to the hotel would have been a plus as we spent time finding a resturant on our way to the hotel. The room was a family room but did not have adequate resources for 4 ie only 2 mugs, 2 servings of coffee and tea 2 towels etc. This was swiftly rectified by the reception staff." (2174286)

Modern and simply furnished very child friendly ideal breakfast facilities for our family situation.

Close to a busy raod which was noisy during the night.
