  • 3/10 Andrew (Solo business traveller)

from Ipswich , GB on  August 14, 2008

"Staff friendly and welcoming on arrival. However, nothing can make up for this being the worst UK hotel I have ever stayed in. Gym had archaic machines and buckets on the floor collecting dripping water. Bed had springs like nails and creaked ridiculously loudly. Unable to sleep due to the uncomforatble bed. In fact, I couldn't get under the blanket as it was so uncomfortable and dirty. Bathtub had dirt all around edges and mould growing from bathroom ceiling. Tap fell off sink in my hand. TV reception awful and channels totally different to those advertised. Worst of all was breakfast, which staff seemed embarrassed to serve. Like some sort of watery/oily soup with bacon, soggy bread and undercooked eggs floating around - nasty. I cannot recommend staying here if you value your comfort or health." (107299986)

Staff friendly, dinner in pub next door was very good.

Room dirty & dark with poor decoration, dirty gym with ancient equipment, uncomortable & creaky bed, mould and dirt in rooms, corridors smell of smoke, breakfast inedible, coffee disgusting.

  • 6/10 Chris (Mature couple)

from Bideford , GB on  August 3, 2008

"Bedroom needs refurbishment and a more comfortable bed required. We were visiting family in Bury so it was a convenient place to stay. Staff were fine. Handy for shopping in Manchester. Free car park at Prestwich Metro station." (107123713)

Good restaurant and English breakfast, pleasant and efficient staff. Very good parking. Cleanliness.

Bed not very comfortable. No spare pillows in room. Fan not working in bathroom. Noise from squash courts irritating in room late afternoon early evening. Could do with a shelf in the bathroom.

  • 8/10 Anonymous (Group of work colleagues)

Nice place and staff great - the main bit of the hotel has just been refurbished. Bedrooms now need some attention

Beds could have been more comfortable

"Enjoyable and meant we were relaxed for our busy day." (97916347)

Overall a pleasant stay and it was close to our venue the next day. Clean tidy and staff were polite.Nice breakfast.

Bath was very slippery so we had to put 1 of the small towels in it when having a shower. A shame the restaurant was being refurbished as we had to go into the city for evening meal.(I appreciate that the refurb had to be done some time)

  • 8/10 Lynn (Mature couple)

from Caldicot , GB on  February 28, 2008

"Nice welcome to the hotel. Room nice and clean. Slept really well and a brilliant choice for breakfast. All for £45 so very good indeed." (97764939)

    Comfortable room and good shower.

Poor and slow service of Bar snacks in the evening. Was cold when we eventually received our order.

  • 5/10 Stuart (Mature couple)

from Pinner , GB on  February 27, 2008

    Convenient for visiting relatives/friends

The Village looks very tired. Well overdue for redecoration and refurbishment. Security door between Reception and ground floor rooms has a damaged lock and should have been replaced.

  • 10/10 Nigel (Group of adult friends)

from Derby , GB on  February 7, 2008

"Good accomodation, nice food, good facilities. My only suggestion would be that the general areas are in need of a little refurbishment." (97639719)

The rooms were clean and tidy, plenty of hot water. The bar area was a little run down and in need of some refurbishment. The gym, jacuzzi and squash courts were excellent.

    Nothing

  • 8/10 Doreen (Mature couple)

from Spalding, lincs , GB on  February 7, 2008

Very easy to find from instructions given over net and good value for money.

How cold it waswhile eating our evening meal and at breakfast even though it was freezing cold outside and in the resturant you had a FAN blowing cold just to make it colder.

  • 5/10 Anonymous (Solo business traveller)

    on  February 4, 2008

"This hotel is very much aimed at the Travelinn market, however does not have the same cleanliness or maintainance standards. The amount of mold in the bathroom is terrible." (97800173)

    The price was ok.

Nothing had been PAT tested since 2004. The bathroom is riddled with mold. Unclean rooms - found other peoples hairs in the bath. Very thin walls - you can hear EVERYTHING taking place next door. Non smoking floor smells of smoke. Very basic breakfast

  • 8/10 Alice (Mature couple)

from Bangor , GB on  February 3, 2008

"I discovered that although I thought payment had been taken by credit card in advance this was not the case and payment had to be made on departure. We had a pleasant stay as staff were attentive, food was excellent, the room was comfortable and clean. The appearance of bedrooms and dining area would benefit greatly from minor maintenance (paintwork required, vending machines and public telephone out of order)." (97388505)

Bed was comfortable, food was excellent, plenty of hot water. The hotel complex was secluded and very quiet during the night.

There was evidence of a lack of maintenance which detracted from the ambience.

  • 5/10 Rachel (Group of adult friends)

from Gateshead , GB on  January 31, 2008

Powerfull shower. Decent beds and lots of storage space.

The room smelt bad, this may have been because it was a smoking room. However the smell was strong and not just smoke. Smoke detecter was covered up with plastic and there was no spoons for the tea/coffee making facilities.

  • 8/10 Anonymous (Group of adult friends)

  • 3/10 Alistair (Solo business traveller)

from Kilmarnock , GB on  January 27, 2008

"This hotel should be totally closed for refurbishment. I would not eat any food from this establishment - the breakfast staff looked filthy themselves." (97282463)

    The gym facilities were good

    The accomodation was filthy

  • 3/10 Andrew (Young couple)

from Exmouth , GB on  January 24, 2008

The Bed was comfortable and clean.

Corridor Stunk of stale cigarette smoke, the bathroom was only passably clean, very noisy (knocking noises etc) during the early evening, though night time was quiet. Cooked breakfast was left out under hot lamps for self service.

  • 4/10 Anonymous (Solo business traveller)

    on  January 7, 2008

    Convenience

Bathroom was poorly cleaned. TV remote control was found (eventually) under the bed. Room was unkempt.

  • 7/10 Frank (Family with older children)

from Plymouth , GB on  January 3, 2008

"Overall it was a good experience but there were things that were not at the standard that I would have expected. The door to the room was difficult to open. The WC did not flush correctly. The decorations in the room were tired. The advertised TC channels were not all present. One bed was wobbly. (Room 105) this is not a formal complaint but you did ask" (97885472)

    Welcoming and helpful staff

Parts of the accomadation were a little tired. and had seen better days.

  • 7/10 Nicola (Group of adult friends)

"Hotel was good value for money....breakfast was lovely...only problem was the cold room at night...Good location for visiting the city center..." (99984577)

    The closeness to men arena

Was very cold during the night and there were no spare blankets and no temperature controls in the room.

  • 6/10 Anonymous (Mature couple)

  • 9/10 Peter (Solo business traveller)

from Leeds , GB on  October 26, 2007

"Given the price charged, the excellent attitudes of all staff I came into contact with and the very clean bedroom there was good value. having seen the hotel when it first opened I feel that it is in need of refurbishment to get it back to its 'former glory'." (97970869)

Staff were very friendly and helpful Bedroom very clean Breakfast good quality

Hotel looking tired, could do with a lick of paint. Table in bar was sticky.

  • 5/10 Colin (Solo business traveller)

from Sutton coldfield , GB on  October 19, 2007

"Good staff but the noiseist room I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. You can hear normal conversations in the rooms above and to the side. Don't stay if you want a good night's sleep." (97763015)

    Good Shower

Thinest walls I've ever encountered. You could hear a conversation in the next room and people moving outside. Generally an unpleasent stay because of the noise

  • 7/10 Anonymous (Solo business traveller)

    on  October 16, 2007

"The original room had some problems but I was relocated very quickly. The replacement was effectively an upgrade. The original romm still would have been good value under the circumstances." (97192601)

    The helpful attitude of staff.

    No real complaints

  • 8/10 Marina (Group of adult friends)

from London, , GB on  July 28, 2007

"Apart from being woken by the noise of the doors in the corridor outside our room, our stay was very pleasant. Adequate room, good breakfast, friendly staff and it was lovely to be able to use the leisure facilities. If you attend a conference or event in nearby Heaton Park, then this is a very convenient place to stay. A bit far from Manchester City Centre but just a 20 minutes' bus ride anyway!" (97252471)

The leisure facilities available to the guests were great, especially the big jacuzzi which I had all to myself!

The doors outside our room banged rather loudly until late at night and from early in the morning.

The friendliness of the staff and the excellent buffet breakfast

The beds were extremely uncomfortable they were very hard and lumpy

  • 9/10 Jo (Young couple)

"The accommodation was very good value for money - the room, staff, breakfast and facilities were all very good. The location, about 3 miles out of the city centre, was superb." (99880419)

    Friendliness of the staff.

Only thing was our reservation had been marked as cancelled when we arrived - everything got sorted though without any problem.

  • 9/10 Janette (Group of adult friends)

    from Lydney , United Kingdom;GB on  March 7, 2007

Comfortable beds, clean room and bathroom. Everything working properly.

The only thing we disliked was the smell of tobacco smoke in the corridor leading to the bedroom, but presumably this will disappear when the new smoking laws come into force.

  • 8/10 Lisa (Young couple)

    from Newport , United Kingdom;GB on  March 2, 2007

"The lodge was lovely, the front of desk staff good have been a little better when they greated us, as i sometimes felt awkward when asking them general queries. The lady who served breakfast, was lovely and i felt very relaxed around her, she was very polite and genually nice." (99684846)

I was really surprised to see how lovely the place and suuroundings were. When coming into the area we were both a little nervous as to what we were getting because the buildings around looked as though it was a house we were going to.

  • 9/10 Nigel (Group of work colleagues)

    from Northampton , United Kingdom;GB on  February 28, 2007

Room was comfortable, reception staff were polite, hotel waitress was brilliant and the food was very nice and reasonably priced.

There could have been more information in the room about the spa etc - e.g. opening times, I wasn't sure of the time it closed and so missed out. The walls are a little thin as I could hear my neighbours on both sides talking.

  • 8/10 Anonymous (Group of work colleagues)

    on  February 27, 2007

Excellent staff, providing very friendly service. Restaurant provided high quality food, both for dinner and breakfast, at a very reasonable rate.

Mould in the bathroom - along the bath and on the shower curtain. Bathroom fan didn't work.

Accommodation was good , the choices to eat were excellent and I enjoyed my evening meal even though I was alone it was comfortable

My room was above the squash hall and the bang bang of the ball on the wall continued until 9:30 pm with a very noisy family in the next room

I asked for a non smoking room which was not granted and for two non smokers it was not very pleasant. The room was not very clean with a border of dust on the edge of the carpet around the whole room. The shower cubicle also had hair in it. also we decided to eat in the bar where we ordered two jacket potatoes which took over 20 minutes to reach the table.

"The staff were extremely pleasant and friendly. The room and bathroom were excellent, the food was very good. I would appreciate some herb tea bags on the hospitality tray but no hotels have them so you wouldn't expect it really. The only thing I did miss was some good fresh coffee with the breakfast. Other than that everything was great." (99182515)

It was clean and pleasant and there was everything I needed.

If I was being really picky I could say that I don't like fixed shower heads.

  • 9/10 Anonymous (Family with young children)

"Customer service was excellent. I rang the hotel on the morning of our visit to ask if we could have adjoining rooms. The receptionist said she would try and sort this out, and would ring me back to let me know the outcome. She did arrange for us to have adjoining rooms, and phoned me back within the half hour to confirm this. We had room service for our evening meal. There was absolutely no problem swapping potato wedges for chips for two of the children and also asking for meals without onions, etc. Quite often when meals are changed in other establishments, you do not quite get what you asked for. In this case, we got five meals exactly as requested. Only two of those meals were as per the menu, the other three had different variations. When we ordered room service I asked if the waiter could bring up a corkscrew. We had brought our own bottle of wine but I had forgotten the cork screw. I didn't expect to get a corkscrew as most establishments like you to use their bar! However, a corkscrew did arrive with the meal. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, which is a pleasant change." (3305176200)

Hotel was lovely, very clean and the decor was tasteful. We had room service for our evening meal, which was great, as was breakfast.

Nothing in particular we disliked, although the fridge was out of order in one of the rooms.

Was chip enough abd good breakfast

was 3 miles from city centre
