"Overall we love the Ben Wyvis, it does however appear to be in need of a good clean." (97147233)

Picturesque location and handy for our use

The bathroom was not particulary clean

"We loved the beautiful historic building: it looked like a castle. Location was central, grounds were large and most attractive. Rooms were lovely. Breakfast was excellent!! The town is charming, very pretty: I hope to return. Found a great local restaurant at the back of the park/pavillion building and had the BEST meal of our entire 3-week vacation. The hotel even had a tiny cinema room, and my sister loved the movie. Friendly, helpful, pleasant staff." (99714108)

    Location

Bed too hard and room too warm. Lift not available to 3rd. floor and a complicated route to room

"This Hotel was accceptable to me as I was on business travel and was only there for an overnight stay. However, if I had been travelling with my Husband and had an extended stay I would have asked for a room upgrade. I have stayed at this Hotel before and know that there are much nicer rooms." (99530972)

The Ben Wyvis is a charming old Hotel. The breakfast was varied and tasty.

Accomodation was very 'tired' looking and could certainly do from updating. When I went to use teapot it had obviously not been used for a considerable amount of time and contained two mouldy tea bags.

Poor matresses, small rooms and average food.

"again entertainment. the overnight stay was a gift. we actually cancelled the Saturday night booking for the Friday night entertainment" (99928676)

the staff were so helpfull and made us feel at home. excellent meals, accomodatiom, beautifull surroundings

we were led to believe there was entertainment on, and was disapponted to fine there was none. That was the only thing we could fault.

"I have never complained so much in one hotel as i did in this one. After we moved to the 3rd room because of no heating in January we were given a room above the function room on a Saturday night with a wedding. The food was poor in the restaurant so would not recommend eating in the hotel." (97400895)

The environment in the communal areas did display opulance.

"I thought the hotel was nice on entering but was disappointed when I got to my room. A very small television, with dark walls and considering the grounds the hotel is set in, disappointing views." (3305170161)

    The grounds were very pleasant.

My room was quite dark and dreary.

"this was a nice clean hotel with an excellent shower in the bathroom. Only thing i dont really like is a buffet breakfast as some items tend to be cold." (3305173500)

nice clean room with a fantastic power shower

the room was a bit on the small side, some of the buffet breakfast was cold.

"Alround very pleasant stay in a beautiful place." (3305095893)

Dare I say it was better than I expected. Perhaps it does cater for the slightly more mature guest but that happens to appeal to me. The food was excellent also.

"A nice hotel with excellent rooms and lovely surroundings, quite in keeping with the town's atmosphere of Victorian spa. Am reasonably certain that under normal circumstances the hotel provides very good value for money." (3304737928)

The hotel is a very nice building, located in a lovely surrounding park, with excellent rooms.

Unfortunately our stay coincided with a big wedding reception, which apparently stretched the resources of the hotel a bit thin.

"The hotel is in lovely grounds and looks impressive on arrival. Unfortunately the interior does not match the initial impression, and although I believe it has recently been refurbished, the decoration is drab and shabby. My impression was that the hotel is geared to dealing with groups and the evening meal seemed to confirm this. The staff that I had dealings with were helpful and responded to my requests. The restaurant staff in particular were very pleasant. We were travelling with another mature couple and, although their room had a nice view of the grounds, it was small and there was a stain on the bed blanket (which was changed on request)." (3305065014)

The setting of the hotel is pleasant and the staff were helpful. Good breakfast, plenty of choice.

The room was small and the view was an internal courtyard. The evening meal was poor, it had the feel of mass produced food.

No menu in the room to order room service

  • 8/10 Teresa (Young couple)

Room was nearly refurbished and quite modern - good quality for a 3*

The hotel itslef wasn't really for us - more suited to older people - we felt very young even though we're in our late 30s!

"This hotel was very much part of the coach tours scene, not really ideal for a young couple but the staff were friendly and the hotel was clean. Food was nice but the dining room did seem a bit of a herding process with all the coach tours. Given that the dining room did seem to run very well." (3304428895)

  • 5/10 James (Mature couple)

    from St.andrews , United Kingdom;GB on  February 22, 2006

"As a McDonald Hotel Group gold Card holder, it would have been nice to see another group hotel offering the same standard of Service. The room allocated was poorly decorated, and in need of attention(Toilet roll holder hanging off wall, sach window frames warped) The size of the room was claustrophobic, which surprised us.I should add that during the evening the Fire Alarm was activated, and as a retired Police Officer i would seriously suggest the Fire drills should be practiced as a matter of course. Very poor . lucky it turned out to be a false alarm. On the plus side the food was excellent." (3304235818)

The coal fire in lounge, and in general the ambience of the building

More friendly guest greeting at reception, did not really appreciate cold, disinterested receptionists.

  • 8/10 Patricia (Mature couple)

    from Aberdeen , United Kingdom;GB on  August 15, 2005

"The bedroom we were allocated was on the third floor and on entry to the bedroom we also discovered there was no shower. I had a back operation six weeks previously and we realised we should have made this known whilst booking. However I phoned reception to explain and within five minutes they contacted us and we were given a ground floor bedroom with bath/shower and the room was of a good standard. We were thoroughly impressed with the help we received on this matter and would readily agree for people to try this hotel. Our thanks to Ben Wyvess, Strathpeffer." (2555528)

We found the hotel and bedroom to be very clean. The staff were helpful and friendly. Good variety of food with the evening menu and generally the food was of a good standard.

With only staying one night we generally found the hotel to be comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

    Petit déjeuner, parking, superbe batisse

    Salle de bain, insonorisation, propreté
