"I had previously used the Hotel frequently, but not for around 3 years. Was surprised to see how basic the rooms looked now. The whole hotel looked a bit tired and in need of a facelift. The staff were very friendly and efficient and the restaurant menu choice good. Don't think I would use the hotel again until it has been modernised. Sorry." (97722338)

Restaurant menu. Good choice and good food. Thanks. Proximity to office I was visiting.

The rooms. Adequate but very basic and a bit dated.

The Staff, and Breakfast were Excellant,

The Bathroom was the only poor point the Grouting arround the bath was not up to standard with na lot of Black fungi stanes. The Tap on the wash basen was not very good, difficult to regulate to grt Hot water

"What a waste to change all the towels on the second day - scarcely used. Generally we knew all we needed to before booking; the directions were clear, and it was good to have plenty of parking. We only had breakfast in the hotel, as we were out with friends and relatives for other meals, but we thought that the breakfast was extremely good, and much enjoyed that each morning. Some of the staff were a little unsure in English, but it was nice to be able to chat to them in French (as far as I was able!)" (97497533)

    View of canal

Wardrobe - no door. Paucity of shelving/storage. Room adequate, but quite small - no room for a decent chair, for example.

The service, in particular the receptionist Rebecca and the waiter Merek (spelling?) were wonderful. Both were courteous, helpful and very friendly.

The room was outdated and fairly dingy/dirty.

"As a busy business traveller arriving at 9pm at a hotel regularly, I need a more dependable booking system than this where when I book a non smoking room i get one." (99602496)

    Comfortable bed

I required a non smoking room and was allocated to a smoking one. I was barely able to breathe by the morning. Hotels that cannot meet the basic health ans afety requirements of their guests should not be included on Actiove hotels lists. I will think twice about using Active Hotels again for this reason.

The reception was not very helpful. The room was very cold and it took a long time for someone to sort it out. The staff tried to charge me for a breakfast that i did not eat despite of telling them that i did not have any.

Easy to find and good location (if you like walking canals into centre - like we do). Plenty of car parkiing. Easy check in and very pleasent staff

Room clean but in need of some refurbishment

"We were a group of 6 adults over 30 staying overnight, it was a little noisy the early hours which isn't normally a problem, however we all had to get up early to be at the race track, Birmingham Wheels. The close location to the track, fantastic breakfast and friendly staff made up for it. It was overall a great weekend and a hotel which we hope to be staying in again." (97857970)

It was very clean and well decorated.

A little noisy the night I stayed.

good customer service from all staff. very good clean room with good tea/coffee facilities. overall the hotel and room was a pleasant experience and goo value for money when booking online.

the room hairdryer was not working. the 2 over head bed lamps (lights) were not working. it would be good to place a door lock on the bathroom door for privacy. breakfast should be included with the booking of a room.

Location was good for Birimingham Centre

The bedroom was obviously refurbished but still old and plain. The Bathroom spelt awful (of urine) and the flush on the toilet was broken. The bed was uncomfortable and the hotel was noisy most of the night with people coming and going.

"Perfect hotel at a very good price for what I wnated it for." (97917364)

It was within easy reach by taxie from the NEC

I went for a walk around 9.00 pm, and felt it was very isolated area to be walking. There were no shops within the area I walked but I did not ask if there were any shops arounf there may have been. The grouting in the bathroom tiles could do with a clean.

    "Poor for the price." (97665627)

The room was not clean, hair in the bath and sink, filthy bathroom floor, marked and grubby walls throughout. The staff were aloof and not at all welcoming. One of the public areas was blue with cigarette smoke. Each morning we were woken by slamming doors and chambermaids shouted conversation.

"Staff generally friendly despite a lack of them sometimes so had to go down to reception area rather than have room-service sort things, but helpful and informative face to face. Not much in the hotel's surrounding area but very close drive into town via the numbers 14 and 66 buses so did not have to fork out for expensive taxi journies. Lovely meal cooked by the in-house chef for less than cost of eating out. Room well maintained and all facilities fine." (97217325)

Predominantly friendly staff, superb meal cooked in restaurant for cheaper than if we had eaten out, room nice with all facilities working and adaquate.

Shortage of staff resulting in long waits on occasions when being served and dealt with at reception. One person doing check-in's so no-one available for room service.
