"We stayed there for work, but enjoyed the hotel enough to make the effort to return in the future and stay there for pleasure." (107107457)

The location was excellent and the parking facilities were great, which is a breath of fresh air in a city like York where parking can be so problematic. The staff were kind and helpful and highly supportive of the diverse horrors which always surround traveling with a 14 month old toddler. Breakfast was great, combining a full English, with a buffet of fresh fruit, cereals, pastries and so forth. The hotel also provided what looked like a great gym, but sadly we didn't have time to use these facilities. What we did enjoy though, were the small but beautiful gardens. For an inner city location, the hotel was actually very quiet and although there was a little road noise, this was considerably less than many of the hotels I've stayed in. The rooms themselves were spacious and comfortable and the en suite included a bath as well as a shower, which was nice.

The hotel did not have lifts, which was not a problem to us, but could be a problem for others. It also just so happened that we ended up staying at the hotel on the hottest day of the year and the lack of air-con in the rooms meant that the first couple of nights were uncomfortably warm.

    "A most enjoyable stay." (108060788)

High quality of service and staff performance.

At booking it was not made clear that double versus twin room was only a request and therefore might not be met. (a Twin was essential, and fortunately provided).

Good food. Clean. Excellent Resteraunt staff.

No parking initially because of day time Gym users. Staff could not help much with technical problem accessing Internet.

"We had a pleasant and relaxing time in York and the fact that yhe Hotel needed some repairs/renewals did not detract from the friendly atmosphere." (97376332)

The hotel was in a great location, lovely gardens and a neatly presented reception/bar area. The decor in the main areas was very good throughout. The staff were friendly, welcoming and very helpful. The food was good although it would be better to use some superior quality chicken breasts.

The breakfast room carpet is way beyond cleaning! The rooms are very tired with some wallpaper peeling off. It was impossible to stop the shower leaking all over the floor - maybe this is why the linoleum was stained badly near the toilet. The shower head also had the nasty habit of not pointing where you wanted it to.

An ample breakfast and helpful staff. The shower was good in that I was able to run the cold water off before actually getting into the shower - without getting the floor wet.

The TV handset had seen better days and the room door needed to be locked to keep it closed, but these were minor irritations.

"Nice City centre hotel, near all sites of interest. Lots of info for York novices, and reception staff knew what to advise when asked. Resturant staff friendly and helpful, with good service, food good. Chambermaids left fresh towels and topped up cooffee/tea. Nice gardens & fishponds, with resident ducks!! Gym was good. " (97255847)

Friendly, efficient staff. Food good, breakfast choice excellent, dinner - menu was fairly standard, but the portions were very good and veg were fresh. Meat/fish we chose was well cooked & abundant. The resturant staff were friendly and gave good servise. The room was clean, although some of the funishing had seen better days.

"We enjoyed our stay, the location of the hotel was great." (97489371)

The hotel was clean and the staff were very polite. The situation of the hotel was excellent and the car park was a major factor for booking. The garden was well maintained. Breakfast was good.

The decor and furnishings in the bedroom were extremely tired and tatty. Also the tired looking silk flowers throughout the hotel give the impression of it being dated. The conservatory area could be made into a lovely space. Also the Roast dinner on the Sunday night wasn't good. The meat was as though it had been reheated and the vegetables were far too hard.

"The hotel seemed - on the basis of what I experienced - very suitable for those leisure travellers - including families - of the type who prefer a quieter ambience than that experienced at either larger hotels or those Hotels who take group bookings for various, often noisy, celebrations. I would also have been happy with this Hotel as a business traveller." (97861441)

The room I was allocated was quiet with a nice view of the gardens

I would have preferred a bath to a shower but I did not specify this when booking - so not an issue.

There is a gym and small swimming pool, the pool can be booked for small groups, we had the pool to ourselves for 1/2hr on a Sunday morning which was nice. The only criticism is that the decor is a little dated in the room in which we stayed (1980s style) and could have done with refurbishment." (97516534)
