"I was a guest at Mrs Brown's Birthday Dinner, in a beautiful room on the first floor. Excellent food and service. It was leisurely and not rushed. " (97820159)

The food was excellent. It was imaginative and beautifully presented.Staff were helpful and pleasant. They produced an AA Route Planner for the next part of my journey.

I would have appreciated help with carrying my suitcase out to the car. (I am 76 yrs old). On my 2nd trip to the car they helped at my request, very pleasantly.

  • 9/10 Robert ( Family with young children)

from Coventry , GB  on  May 8, 2008

"we have a very active 1 year old and there were no high chairs available in the dining area. we had breakfast and found it to be badly cooked and the ingredients seemed to be of poor quality. The black pudding was inedible and the sausages overcooked. it put us off eating in the restaurant. However the hotel and staff overall were excellent" (97061096)

very smart, lovely bed, good facilities in room

  • 9/10 Claire ( Young couple)

    from Merseyside , United Kingdom;GB  on  May 15, 2007

"THE HOTEL WAS SET IN LOVELY GROUNDS WAS VERY CLEAN AND TIDY, STAFF WHERE REALLY FRIENDLY AND TOLD US WHAT PUBS AND CLUBS TO GO TO, ORDERED US TAXI'S. WE ALSO RANG US AT 2PM BECAUSE THE TOILET WAS NOT WORKING AND SOMEONE WAS UP WITHIN 10 MINS TO LOOK AT IT, THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE AND NO OTHER ROOM FOR US TO GO IN BUT WE DID RECEIVE £20 BACK WHEN WE CHECKED OUT WHICH WAS NICE." • 8/10 Rodney ( Mature couple)

    from Ferndown , United Kingdom;GB  on  April 2, 2007

Pleasant room on ground floor and no noise of kitchens etc. Also very adequately stocked with coffee making facilities and loo rolls !

Only that it was too warm and we could not seem to turn the radiator down so had to open the window.

  • 9/10 Paul ( Solo business traveller)

    Bathroom a bit tired.

  • 3/10 Anonymous ( Solo business traveller)

"The price reflects the age of the hotel I guess, however the staff attitude was a little poor (chatting to friend on telephone when I arrived, continued conversation during check in including moaning about the fact the hotel was busy!, unable to accept Amex, moaning about hotel's own credit card system) - basically unprofessional." (99639374)

it was clean and the towels were plentiful and decent, there was plenty of hot water, it was convenient to my work place

very old fashioned, outdated bathrooms and decor, very worn building (doors etc), service lift, physical key for room (not swipe card), unable to use Amex

  • 9/10 Debra ( Family with older children)

Good location of hotel, well signed. What you needed was there would have liked more draws for clothes.

    Need to redecorate now.

  • 9/10 Angela ( Group of adult friends)

    from Dublin , Ireland;IE  on  February 7, 2007

The staff were warm and welcoming at all levels from reception, to houskeeping and bar area. The rooms were clean and warm. Price was competitive. Grounds are really lovely - loved the squirrels hopping around in the garden.

  • 9/10 Anonymous ( Group of work colleagues)

    on  February 7, 2007

    Neat and tidy

There was an extra charge for breakfast and when I went to the hotplate at about 8:15 there was not a full sellection of food:- no bacon, no grilled tomato, a spoon full of dried beans. It took over 15 mins for replenishments to arrive by which time I had finished the little that I had.

  • 8/10 Leanne ( Young couple)

"Ok at knock down down price, restuarant is expensive and quality and offering just not justify the cost." (99975081)

Price - if you get a deal it is a decent hotel but do not pay book price

Expensive resturant, no heating in room although staff did sort some electric heaters

  • 9/10 David ( Solo business traveller)

    from Sheffield , UNITED KINGDOM;GB  on  January 23, 2007

Very reasonable price for standard of hotel. Rooms are clean with good bedding and towels. Staff are friendly.

Decoration in bedroom is ready for 'refreshing' but they are still acceptable.

  • 8/10 Carol diane ( Mature couple)

    from Coleshill , United Kingdom;GB  on  December 20, 2006

"Compared to the facilities you have in the room at Hoole Hall with other hotels we have stayed in could be improved to reflect the price i.e either breakfast could be included at a reduced rate or the breakfast could be re-viewed and priced lower. I do think that £15.00 for a breakfast is a little high as most we have stayed in are around the £12.00 price, although to be fair I suppose you can eat as much as you want." (99687459)

We always like the Hoole Hall Hotel. We enjoy the relaxed atmosphere

  • 10/10 Louise ( Group of adult friends)

  • 8/10 Dennis ( Mature couple)

"The hotel is an excellent base to visit Chester and the surrounding area. Ideally situated, just off the motorway but in a quiet peaceful location not far from the centre of Chester." (99591294)

The hotel was easy to find, clean and the food was first class. Most of the staff were helpful and polite.

Bar prices very high and the quality of the beer was poor. Some bar staff training required.

  • 7/10 Anonymous ( Mature couple)

The hotel was light and airy and the rooms were comfortable.

To include breakfast in the stay increased costs dramitcally.

  • 7/10 Karen ( Other)

from St ives , United Kingdom;GB  on  April 15, 2006

"The hotel is set in pleasant grounds and the accommodation overall is good. There was little disburbance overnight, allowing for a good night's sleep. Staff were friendly but not always the most effective. The hotel provided good value for money and as a business guest it fit the bill well. The thickness of the walls did mean that there was some difficulty in obtaining a signal with the mobile phone in the room which, if communication is important, could be a problem. However, when in the main reception area (which was well-furnished and comfortable) phone signal was fine." (3304446565)

The room was large and well-furnished.

Getting to our room through no less than 11 fire doors with our luggage was a challenge. We were unable to get hot water through the shower.

it was neat, clean and tidy

  • 8/10 Stephen ( Young couple)

    from Chester , United Kingdom;GB  on  February 28, 2006

"Lovely location, very reasonble price and friendly staff. Had to change rooms as the bathroom stank of dog (they allow dogs to stay in rooms and evidently don't clean properly), when complained a cleaner 'helpfully' suggested i spray air freshner! Was moved to another room, with no problems." (3304276352)

Very reasonable price. Room very clean and tidy. Friendly helpful staff.

Bathroom was quite untidy and felt dirty, shower was not very good.

Good location great for road links

Food wasn't the best although I didn't dine in the main resturant.

  • 6/10 Gemma ( Same sex couple)

    from Nottingham , United Kingdom;GB  on  February 15, 2006

Lovely building. Clean, had basic facillities required in room. Staff were friendly.

The room wasn't ready when we arrived as the booking hadn't been faxed through despite being made theevening before. We had to wait 45 min and we weren't offered tea/coffee automatically although it was provided when we ordered some.

    "as above" (3304173321)

breakfast included in price of stay, and clearer signage 2 main reception assome areas were like a rabbit warren

"It is a beautiful hotel in a busy city, hiding away behind the trees, it feels like your somewhere else. I would definately stay again, and any one who just likes to get away should take a visit. We enjoyed the food, it was excellent and really well presented. Overall it was a good night." (3304184288)

Everything was extremely well thought about and planned. The rooms were nice and cosy. Every thing you would need was available and even a morning breakfast would be bought to your room if you requested it the night before. The food was excellent and very well presented. The lady in reception was really nice and welcoming.

There was no heating in our room and it was extremely cold, only one extra duvet was available, not really enough for a cold january night. The restaurant staff could have been quicker to serve us as other guests were coming in and getting served when we had been sat waiting. There is a limited drinks menu, the only drink that is available is wine, and we made do with a jug of water as we are not wine drinkers, but even the water didnt arrive on our table until halfway through our main course when it was requested for the thrid time. Also only a few guests appeared to be in the hotel but we were placed in the very last room, the furthest away, and probably the reason it wasnt heated. Its also a bit pricy.

  • 9/10 Richard ( Young couple)

    from Stoke-on-trent , United Kingdom;GB  on  February 3, 2006

"no comment as we dont really have expectation so long as the room is spacious and the hotel is of good standard which we knew it would be before we booked it online." (3304168341)

The hotel was a relaxing place to stay, it was quite, room was quite spacious and the view was great. overall we enjoyed the stay at Hoole Hall.

signs clearly showing which door leads to the reeption because we kept going through the wrong doors. the door to get to the reception had emergency signs, perhaps this could be changed.

"At the full room price it would be very poor value - however at your price it was adequate." (3304176793)

Bathroom cleanliness - black mould evident around bath tiles Room heating - bathroon towelrail heater was permanently turned off

"It would have been useful to know the costs relating to breakfast and evening meal. The room rate was excellent but I did not know what possible add-ons there would be" (3304130014)

The external statue of the building. The atmosphere in the restuarant.

More overnight staff. There were a very noisy party in the next room. It took me 15 mins to get any response from the Night Porter. Once I had raised him he did deal with the party but it took 3 attempts to get them to quietened down 3.30 am until 5.00 am
