"I would visit the hotel again as the the level of customer care give by reception staff and restaurant staff was excellent.but cleanliness and attention to detail is sadly lacking and requires to be addressed as a priority" (97621143)

The helpful friendly staff are your main strenghts at the moment in my opinion, although i understand there is a re-furb in process i would like to re-view the hotel once this is complete, the food and promptness of service in restaurant area was excellent, however cleanliness was at an acceptabel level in my opinion.

The levels of high and low dust in my room was appalling i had to damp dust the entire area with a towel,i didn't complain at the time as i was only there 1 night and couldn't be bothered with the aggro,i did speak to a couple of guests at dinner who siad they had asked for a room change as the 1st room wasn't up to scratch and had been moved to what appeared to be one of the newly re-furbed rooms

"I remember this hotel from 10 years ago. It has certainly gone down market since then. It is in need of refurbishement and this has been recognised by the owners. I would not be put off staying again but would not feel happy paying the full room rate until improvements have been made." (97128298)

"The main problem was that the Restaurant was closed in the evening. This meant instead of relaxing and unwinding with a nice meal and a drink, I had to get back in my car and find a restaurant that was open. All this would have been OK if it had been clear at the time of booking." (97039925)

It was clean and easy to find

There were no available facilities and we were not informed in advance

Staff friendly and did the best they could.

No basic services xmas day evening, no cooked breakfast following day. rooms looking tired and cold during Dec 07 - a definite no no when you have retired old couple with you.

"I am sure that this hotel when first built or refurbished was excellent. I think that it is becoming a little tired in places eg the bathrooms, the hallways, etc, the grounds also. This having been said, the above is far outweighed by the service which is very good, and the price which is excellent. I would certainly stay at the hotel again." (97396158)

The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff was without fault.

There was nothing particularly dislikable but as a non-driver it was a little inaccessible without having to wait for taxis, although they came promptly.

"For me the hotel is in such a good location for my needs, I could be persuaded to stay there at least 26 nights per year. However, the extortionate price of the breakfast, and the petty overcharging of a newspaper actually means that I am most unlikely to stay there unless I am desperate, and if I do it will be on the basis of room only and no extras. The management must surely lose potential repeat business with such ridiculously uncompetitve practices. Do they know what their rivals charge for breakfast? £7.95 max." (97832365)

    Convenient location

£13.95 for breakfast is extortionate!! 45p newspaper charged at 70p is plain silly, markup 66%+

The room was ready nice and early for us to check in to.

I appreciate that there is a lot of work being done at the belfry at the moment so i would have expected some form of disruption but to be honest i was suprised at the actual room we stayed in. Its very old fashioned and not at all comfertble or well decorated. The bathroom did not feel very clean and the shower barely worked so i had to use the bath instead. The bathroom door has paint peeling off it which i know is a very minor point but after everything else being not great i noticed things like that. I went in to the bar and waited 10 minutes to be served as the member of staff had gone somewhere and she never even apologised when she came back! I then ordered a latte and she pulled her face and said are you sure thats what you want, i dont know how to do that! i told her not to bother and she said she would have a go. She then gave me a cup of coffee that i have to say was more like a cup of horlicks than anything else and she just laughed and said well, i dont know what it will be like but there you go!!

"for what we paid the room was ok, however the temperature in the rooms needs to be sorted, the windows were so drafty it felt as if it had been left open, there was also a plug in electric radiator in the room, however this had stopped working by the next morning i have had a cold since returning home.would stay again but would not stay in room at back on the ground floor, looks as if they were trying to decorate or something!however the company function we attended in the garden rooms was excellent, apart from when all the drinks were cleared off our tables without warning just after 12pm, which was not good when you had just got a round of drinks at last orders!" (97319504)

convenient for the function we were attending at the same hotel, bed comfortable, with tea/coffee facilities

the very drafty windows, old metal type, room was freezing!

"Allthough the cost of the room was resonable the charges for Internet access is extortionate. As for the price of Breakfast - well that beggars belief! £13.95 I had a first class evening meal in a local restaurant for less than that." (97639452)

"The restaurant was modern and the staff were friendly. There was lovely food." (97139272)

The room was spacious and had everything I needed including an iron. Lovely restaurant.

It was cold. There was a lot of airplane noise from the airport throughout the night. The shower head was old and there was not a great flow of water.

"The hotel was generally in need of some TLC, it needs redecorating. The main restaurant is expensive and in my opinion not worth the money, but a meal in the café is reasonable, and recommended. I could not have the window open as the air conditioning units for the hotel were just outside." (97132474)

    Clean sheets and towls.

    Needs redecorating

  • 5/10 Jeremy ( Solo business traveller)

"The exterior and rooms seem under-invested - haven't been redecorated for along time. The lounge, bar and restaurant have been refurbished. restaurant prices are high (£23 for a grilled plaice! - more expensive than some London fish specialists), although the food was reported as being good. My bar food was good." (97338064)

    Well signposted.

TV remote didn't work on arrival, toilet flush difficult to use, shower weak and temperature unsteady. Could tell that my room had been a smoking room in the past. General air of tiredness about the building.

Its proximity to the motorway network.

The hotel is beginning to look a little tatty but it is still clean. Coffee pots with no tops, very low water pressure on the top floor, a few stains on the carpets.

The building itself was lovely from the outside and promised alot on first glance

The hotel is in need of internal redecoration. The wall paper in my room was peeling and shredded in places where the chair had rubbed against the wall. The Bathroom tiles had been painted over with tile paint which was now peeling away, and there were gaps in the side panel of the bath which were filthy. there were also damp spots and the side lamp shade had seen better days.

Bedroom fine - nothing pretentious, clean, nice size, good wardrobe space etc.

The bathroom was very poor indeed - completely out of date - the The lavatory was almost impossible to flush without the arm of Hercules. Frankly, the whole bathroom in desperate need of refurbishment.

The main light for the room was also inoperative. In addition the hotel attempted to charge me for items I did not have, bill was reprinted after my input." (99848132)

the room, the duty manager was very helpful as i could not put any details re the wedding on your site she was kind enough to allocate discounts that were part of the booking we should have had

The evening food was not value for money, the service was reasonable and the staff friendly though there is no need to completely clear the table whilst you are still sat there. We would not stay at this hotel again." (2791251)

Bathroom was good standard but gave impression of lower standard because of marked bath panel and rusty whb plughole. Could do with using some other screen curtains in room and in high mid windows in restaurant as the type in use quickly become soiled looking.

Very comfortable room & bed, with the quietness we requested. Exceptional restaurant with nice ambiance, good service and lovely food

A minor point, but easily remedied, the lift walls need an update. The carpet on the walls is dirty and badly stained and presents a false impression of the quality of the hotel as the first impression on arrival.
