    Friendly staff

    Dirty and smoky room

  • 6/10 William ( Mature couple)

from Alva , GB  on  September 2, 2008

"By no means value for money. When there we compared facilities at The Patio and others and there was no comparison." (107255193)

Friendly atmosphere and building is central to shops and entertainment.

Poor ventilation of Bedroom and Ensuite due to no air conditioning. Window opening was restricted and also cheap secondary glazing (probably fitted to cut out overnight interminable passerby, traffic and seagull noise) Fittings in room and En-suite were ancient and in need of replacement. Dining Room floor dirty below tables. Service was slow at dinner and after two failures to obtain black coffee due to language difficulties we gave up and went to Costa.

"Hotel was clean, nice and well positioned. However, the room was rather dull, lacking character and more likely one that would be found in a two star hotel." (107278468)

    Entrance was well presented.

Room was not particularly nice considering it is a four star hotel.

"As always our stay at the Caledonian was very pleasing" (107173838)

Quality of room and furnishings was equal to 4 star

Evening meal package was less than average for a four star hotel e.g serving up a kind of stew as main course with raw veg and brown bread on top in the restaurant when one can get good quality food like fish and chips in the bar is not really a very good deal.

"great we would definately stay here as our first choice in the city centre again " (107101861)

we found the new shower taps a bit complicated but had a good laugh trying to work them out

"very good ,enjoyed very much" (108026520)

"Overall it was a good hotel. The room was smaller than expected but the staff and food was excellent." (108064437)

The receptionist and waiting staff in hotel were excellent polite and friendly.

The receptionist was working flat out on her own at check in/out. We had to wait quite a bit. Also, just as well i checked the bill as we were charged for an evening meal that was inclusive in our offer.

  • 8/10 Yvonne ( Young couple)

from Kennoway , GB  on  April 23, 2008

"Overall it was a very pleasant hotel, although exstensive renovation work was going on and the outside was covered with scaffolding, it didn't detract in any way from our enjoyment of the weekend. The staff were excellent and very friendly. The only thing that wasn't up to standard was the quality of the breakfast, I'd expect better from a Thistle hotel." (97051181)

Very central, close to all shops, bars, clubs restaurants etc.

Breakfast wasn't of a standard I'd expect from a Thistle hotel and the lounge menu wasn't very appetising.

  • 8/10 Rona ( Mature couple)

"Overall a very enjoyable stay. Would recommend this hotel to friends and relatives at the reasonable rates offered by activehotels.com." (97062501)

Friendly, clean and comfortable. Excellent location for theatres and shops.

    Slow and disorganised breakfast service.

  • 7/10 Anonymous ( Mature couple)

"The staff were helpfuland food was hot and cooked to order. Decor and toilet was in need of maintanance as sink was cracked. Could supply more rooms with walk-in showers for people like myself who have problems getting in and out of a bath. Position of hotel is very good as it is close to shops and restaurants." (97852285)

hotel staff were polite and helpful and hotel was in a good position for shops and restuarants as i cannot walk too far.

toilet required some maintance as sink was cracked. it would help if there was walk-in showers in the rooms.

  • 9/10 Tracy ( Mature couple)

    Close to the centre

    Car Parking is limited.

Very comfortable and all we expected

Would really have liked some face flannels in the bathroom I would have appreciated face flannels in the bedroom and the drinks in the mini bar very over priced.

  • 8/10 Loretta ( Young couple)

    from Edinburgh , United Kingdom;GB  on  April 6, 2007

"Our room was at the back of the hotel and outside our window was a wall and the air conditioning vents. it meant very little natural light and a lot of noise when we opened the window. we stayed the first warm weekend of the year so the hotel was also very warm meaning we had to open the window. overall for a one night stay we were not unhappy with the accommodation. We paid a lot less than standard rates so accept that we would not be allocated the best room in the hotel." (99308126)

the hotel itself was lovely and very centrally located.

the room we were allocated was small and dark.

  • 8/10 Gael ( Mature couple)

"We thought the hotel was lovely. We booked a basic room but it was clean and well decorated, plenty room to move around and there was a large bathroom. Would definitely book hotel again." (49609141)

Perfect for our overnight stay - all that we needed supplied. Forgot hairdryer but there was one in the room, also forgot toothpast but was able to purchase some at the hotel.

  • 8/10 Anonymous ( Mature couple)

"This hotel is quite central and appears to have facilities for all ages. It includes a car park adjacent to the building. The communal areas were clean and looked inviting. The staff were all very helpful, answering questions about the general area in a very informative and efficient manner.I think the staff were definitely the hotel's best asset. I think the hotel overall is very good value for money." (99997299)

The receptionists were very helpful and friendly. The room was adequate .

We found the room rather dowdy and old fashioned. It was however quite clean.

"I have stayed in many bed and breakfasts with a much better room standard." (3305254172)

    Bathroom was nice

Decor was worn and in urgent need of attention, heating in room would not come on, Television control was falling appart, television was dated with poor picture, lamps on wall were all squint giving a first impression of being at sea.

  • 7/10 Isobel ( Other)

"Breakfast was not included in the cost of the accommodation and an indication of what it would cost to purchase this from the restaurant would have been helpful. My daughter and I enjoyed our stay and would go back." (99310765)

Excellent location and staff were extremely helpful

View from the window was uninspiring

  • 9/10 Rhona ( Group of adult friends)

"My stay was very pleasant and no complaints. There was one issue in that myself and a friend had booked a twin room online, but when we arrived were given a double room and told that no twin rooms were available. However, the staff were very nice and dealt with the problem very professionally. We were offered two separate rooms for the same cost and I was very happy with the way the matter was handled." (99138125)

Very clean, traditional decor, peace and quiet, good amenities.

    No complaints.

Good size of room.Quiet within building.

Would like to have have some bottled water available in room for drinking along with tea & coffee etc.

  • 6/10 Anonymous ( Mature couple)

"Hotel has great character due to to building age and decor. However, dinning/breakfast room could do with a makeover. Breakfast service appeared to be understaffed - had to keep prompting for basic service/missing items. Also breakfast not good value - for this price elsewhere have received freshly cooked breakfast of beter quality (here it was self-service from already-cooked buffet)." (3304558602)

clean and tidy. excellent view from room.

Room could have been a little larger/more modern. Room heating system did not work (radiators). Breakfast could have been better.

  • 7/10 Jim ( Mature couple)

    from Glenrothes , United Kingdom;GB  on  April 16, 2006

"A well located city centre hotel. Ideal for shopping and going out. It was however a bit tired and slightly dated. It could do with becoming a bit more modern and lively (they know their market better than me of course - it may suit them)" (3304531226)

Very well located. Staff very nice.

The hotel had an air of tiredness about it. It needs to liven up.
