The hotel and the accommodation block are seperate so the hotel feels more like a motel.

  • 6/10 Anonymous (Group of work colleagues)

    on  March 13, 2007

"I found the hotel is more suited to a certain type of clientele - i.e. oilrig workers and is certainly not catering for any other types of guests (the only bar had a pool table in the middle of it). My colleague and I were the only 2 females (that we could see) staying there on that night. It is not a hotel that I would recommend for anyone staying there on business - especially females on their own. Although we had absolutely no problem with the other guests and were not bothered by them, it is slightly intimadating to walk into a bar (again, extremely shabby) and for people to stop and stare!!!" (99696484)

The hotel room was clean and the staff were pleasant and helpful. Food was nice although not a great selection on menu.

The outside of the hotel is extremely poor and in badly need of an upgrade. Unable to lock my hotel room door from the outside. Curtain half off the curtain rail.

"I thought that for the price of the room and that it was an excecutive room that it would have been much better, it may have been a good room 25 years ago but time has not been kind. The food was acceptable but not great, although the staff were friendly and helpful. I would not stay here again." (99036560)

The room was very noisy from the airport and very dated. The bathroom was disgusting, bath was discoloured and the performance of the shower very poor

    the beds were large

the beds sagged, showing ageing mattresses. poor standard of cleanliness in bathroom. extractor duct blocked with tissue. insufficient electical sockets for the supplied room equipment (a standard lamp was in the corner with no socket to plug it into) with a choice of tv and lamp or tv and trouser press or lamp and trouser press, not all three.

"It would have been good to know that this was a drop off/on point for oil rigg workers and not a location suited to business meetings." (99840298)

Very Little other than convenient for Airport

The calibre of guests - the language in the restuarant from other guests was deplorable - loud and vulgar. The staff had no idea as to service and the food was bland. My smoked haddock and prawn fishcake, did not have smoked haddock - just haddock and I'm sure there was a prawn in there somewhere.

"Our initial impression of the hotel on arrival was poor as it looked like a rather down at heel motel with many cars and poor surface to the driveways. The staff however were friendly, efficient, polite and helpful. Our room was ovreheated but this was remedied by turning down the radiator.Noise pollution from the adjacent airport was well controlled by the secondary double glazing but there was a lot of interference on the television from aircraft." (99894637)

the room was nice and spacious

generally in need of refurbishment and un unpleasant odour in the room of damp. In the corridor outside the room there was a rather strong odour, as of cigarette smoke being covered up.

Hotel reception, restaurant area was okay but bedroom was not great. Torn wallpaper, bathroom had some discloured areas with signs of mould. This room was long overdue for refurbishment!!" (99057050)

Close to Airport. Food menu was good but restaurant was full.

Bedroom was not up to standard i expect from Thistle Hotels.

We asked for a none smoking room to get ready in as we needed to be at a wedding for 12 30 and one of us needed to be picked up at 10 30 am. There were no rooms available when we got there but the house keeping staff made a room up for us straight away. The reception staff were also very helpful. pLEASANT STAFF, FOOD WAS GOOD.

The inital approach to the Hotel and the generalrun down appearance. Beer kegs lined in a row in the car park, very tatty decor outside. Inital feelings of concen about what it would be like inside.

"It was very difficult to find the location of the hotel at night. There were no road maps provided on the web page. Even when I phoned the hotel having got lost, the directions were not clear and I had to enquire of pedestrians, not a the best thing at 11.30 in the evening. There are no road signs giving directions to the hotel. There was inadequate car parking, cars were parked wherever it was possible to leave them,on verges and down the centre of the areas. The accommodation was in a seperate building which meant getting wet going to and from the reception." (3304667821)

The room was clean and very spacious the staff were very welcoming and the range and quality of items at breakfast was excellent

The bathroom needs redecorated. There were tiles that were blackened with damp.

"I would like to have known in advance precisely how to arrange transport in the shuttle bus from the airport. The driver of the bus was extremely helpful in assisting me in finding the location of the event I was due to attend that evening. He took the trouble to drive me to the location on the way to the hotel. The check-in and check-out were both smooth. Staff at breakfast were particularly polite and helpful. There was plenty of hot water for bath and shower. There was also a plentiful supply of tea and coffee in the room which is important to me. Because of the hotel rate offered by Active Hotels I would assess the value for money as exceptionally good." (3304394421)

Convenience for airport and event attended. Spacious accommodation. Good breakfast. Did not have to check out until midday. Attentive staff.

Although clean, hotel looked a bit shabby and could do with a makeover. Accommodation did not feel particularly secure as it seemed that anyone could walk in off the street to where the rooms are.

The only thing I found uncomfortable was that the accommodation was apart from the main reception of the hotel.

"We had stayed at this hotel some years ago and expected it to be as good, especially as it is in the Thistle Group." (3304247868)

The bedroom was well decorated, clean and furnished appropriately. The entrance hall and landing to the bedroom was in need of decoration and the carpet was torn in several places and stuck down with silver tape.

There was nothing to fault in the bedroom accommodation, although since we last stayed at the hotel, we thought it had begun to look a bit tired and could do with sprucing up a bit. Also whilst we were staying there, they had a wedding on the Friday night and a kick boxing event the following night and the entrance to the hotel could have been cleaned up, cigerette ends swepted up and the area mopped.
