"No real problems, and we would stay there again, but not as a first choice if somethng else was on offer. At £95 per night not that cheap, when we paid £70 per night at a Novetel which was more modern and better equiped." (107131632)

We had the family room, which was a good size, very comfortable and clean.

Nothing really to moan about, although the room is starting to show signs of wear and tear, and will soon be in need of a bit of paint. When thinking of eating in the resturant, there was no childrens menu, although they did offer to knock something up for the children, but i like to know prices before i order anything.

The room was clean and tidy and stylishly decorated and I liked the kidney shaped bath.

The position of the central heating/air conditioning unit - I am not keen on having heat directed at my head.

Spacious room & Comfortable Bed we were upgraded on our room, staff waited up as we were delayed checking in, didnt get there till 11.30pm, they were very patient and understanding thanks.

one minor gripe the room was classed as a family room, but contained no hair dryer this is in this day and age a must.

"This is was a perfect location for me. close to the work site I was going to visit at 5 o'clock on Saturday morning. The in room tea making facility was very welcome. The waitress service was excellent in the restaurant and the food was good though the specials were not on the menu on the night of my stay. All in all good value for money" (99571626)

"must keep aware that standards are to be kept at all times not just at the inspection for the 4 diamonds, dust and dirt are starting to collect around the edges of the room and bathroom, although this did not make the stay unpleasant. The beds need to be changed though as they are incredibly lumpy and sagging." (99896674)

better watch out for slipping standards

"If you are looking for a short break/weekend away in a quiet location then this hotel would seem to fit the bill.If however you are looking for a bit mote of a hotel and restaurant atmosphear then this may not be for you. the overall service and helpfullness of the staff was excellent and could not be faulted.8 out of 10" (99903823)

Nice location, [just out of town] plenty of parking space and car could be parked with in view, felt taxi fair into Canterbury very ecpensive. Resturant a bit on the quiet side not a lot going on in the bar etc,but overall a pleasant stay

Heating / air conditioning system difficult to get to the correct temperature and very noisey during the night

  • 9/10 Craig ( Young couple)

from Bexley village , United Kingdom;GB  on  January 31, 2007

"Arrived early evening to be greeted by a young lady at reception / bar. She was extremely helpful in showing us over to the accomodation and on how to use the electronic door entries. She also offered to book us a table for dinner even though we were not sure where we were oing to eat. We decided that we would eat at the pub to avoid taking our car out again and we were not disappointed. The meals served were exeptional and quite large, especially the chicken fajitas... Breakfast was a bit on the small side and I found that if you removed an item from the standard full breakfast (ie: no mushrooms) then it was not replaced with say an extra sausage or bacon rasher." (99272118)

    Cleanliness and modern room

  • 9/10 Anonymous ( Family with young children)

"The Evenhill provided us with an exceptionally clean and comfortable stay. In my room there appeared to be no hairdryer or ironing facilities which I would have thought would be fairly standard and are at most of the hotels in which I have stayed. However, the en suite facilities were quite exceptional and were above the standard of some of the finer hotels in which I have stayed. The restaurant was charming, the food excellent and the restaurant staff very attentive. Overall the staff were friendly and very helpful and I would certainly consider a stay at the Evenhill should I visit this area again." (3304247893)

Very clean, comfortable and warm. The en suite facilities were particularly well kept and very clean.

In the room that I stayed in there didn't appear to be a hairdryer or ironing facilities. These I believe are almost essential for any stay.

Very good car parking facilities; a good restaurant with a varied menu, and a bar with a good range of Shepherd Neame beers; a very pleasant interior including a non-smoking area for the restaurant. The rooms are functional with expected facilities. The hotel is easy to find on the Sandwich road from Canterbury.

In many hotels my wife has a problem with fixed overhead showers, it makes it difficult for washing hair. The situation here was slightly overset by the large corner bath in which the shower was located.

"The hotel is under new management and it shows, we had to wait a long time for our meals, the hotel should not run out of bacon and bread at breakfast time. I am sure that this will have been sorted out by now. Would I stay at this hotel again, YES." (3305447494)

Good clean modern rooms, with car parking away from the main road.

Heated towel rail and radiator in bathroom did not work.

"Still disappointed that it is 4 stars. I think it is a 3-star hotel standard. There was no receptionist when we arrived and had to wait about 15 min for somebody to check us in! The receptionist was the bartender as well! Also, reception is not in the accommodation part of the hotel. Also, very small room for a 4-star hotel rooms. Good things: excellent breakfast and welcoming staff at the pub. Good car parking facility. Overall clean." (99957112)

    Good breakfast. Nice bathroom

    Poor reception

It was well situated for my needs. It was set back from the road so it was a nice quiet accomodation. Loved the big corner bath!!!

Noisy close on the room doors. Loud bangs are heard when they shut, which woke us on both mornings of our stay, happening when guests leaving early (contractors etc.)left their rooms.

"The website is good. It tells you what to expect in a succinct and objective manner. To have the opinions of others shows confidence in the product. I would have liked a free Wi Fi facility. An enjoyable stay, but then I have always liked Spitfire - one of my favourite beers!" (3304700656)

Overall we enjoyed our stay. The staff were helpful and kindly fed us just as the kitchen was closing. Many staff get 'grumpy' when this happens - not at this hotel.

We thought the price was a little high - about the same as a Premier Lodge in London.

The location is great, as it is in the middle of the countryside there is no traffic noise in the morning, just the singing of birds. Overall this hotel is of a very high standard and offers great value for money. Well worth a second visit!" (3304592727)

embedded in nature, fine balance of past moods and present facilities, top breakfast (and great coffee in room), friendly, helpful reception and bar

The food was excellent, staff friendly. Bar and restaurant were very inviting. Towels were changed daily.

A working bathroom rediator would be good especially as staff were aware and had already reported it upwards. General repair of plaster around bathroom door. Scuff marks removed from walls. Noise level from adjoining accommadation needs seriously addressing.

"You will not be dissapointed, very nice experience, completely relaxing!!!!!!Good Food, good selection at the bar, lovely clean and warm rooms, plenty of parking and 5 mins from Canterbury...Best I've stayed at...A credit to Sheapherd Neame!!!!!!!!!!!!" (3304215215)

The whole experience was very nice, the rooms are very comfortable, ours had aircon which was nice, loads of hot running water. The food was very good and the Bar/Restaurants were very cosy and warm, very relaxing and peaceful.....

Don't let this put you off in any way,but the restaraunt staff seemed a little dosile and hap-hazard,perhaps they were fine but and was expecting too much especially as everything else was good....The place obviously gets a lot of regulars and that was apparent as they seemed to get slightly better treatment, more re-checks at the table, drinks, food OK sir? ect ect...however the owner/manager couldn't have been more helpful. As I've said do not let this put you off,you will not be dissapointed.Just trying to be constructive with my critisism.......5 Star

Rooms were clean and enjoyed our stay and would go back again without hesitation. Children also loved their own room with corner bath and own tea making facilities which included hot chocolate which they thought was great." (3304235471)

"Rooms are located in a modern Barn style building behind the pub / restaurant. They are fitted with individual airconditioning / heating units and an unusual magnetic card door key system that needed getting used to. Otherwise the accomodation was typical of modern hotel rooms." (3304231485)

    Quiet location,comfortable room

  • 10/10 Tracy ( Family with older children)

    from Honiton , United Kingdom;GB  on  December 14, 2005

"The accomodation is across the car park from the pub so there is no noise or smoke to pollute the rooms. All rooms are on the ground floor. The staff were friendly and helpful. The quality, size and service of the breakfasts were excellent. We will certainly be staying at the Evenhill again next time we visit Kent." (2939070)

The family room was spacious, clean and well equipped. The beds were large and very comfortable, the pillows were all new and very comfortable. Despite freezing temperatures outside the room was warm enough to not need the heating on and therefore was not stuffy, and being on the ground floor meant you could open windows had the weather been warmer.

    None

  • 7/10 Anonymous ( Mature couple)

"We chose the room as it was a four poster room, however the room was quite small for the size of the bed. We had our evening meal in the restaurant which was excellent, as was breakfast the next day. All in all an enjoyable stay." (2814384)

Room and bathroom was clean and bed was very comfy.

Room was cold when we arrived and fan heater took a long time to heat the room. Radiator in bathroom was switched off. However when it did warm up it was very cosy.

  • 8/10 Lionel ( Mature couple)

"The plumbing system was a little noisy and caused a slight disturbance to our nights sleep. Other than this it was a pleasant and enjoyable stay with an excellent evening meal." (2987105)

Very friendly staff and enjoyed a very nice quiet meal in the evening.

  • 7/10 Clare ( Other)

    from Epsom , United Kingdom;GB  on  November 30, 2005

"I did not like the reception area which looked rather a mess and not very clean. I thought the restaurant area was charming and the breakfast was good - very efficiently served even though everyone seemed to turn up at once. I would recommend it as a reasonable place to stay but not as a place not to be missed." (2997391)

The towels were great - very thick. The bathroom was fine and the beds were comfy, which has not been my experience with many hotels.

The electronic key system wasn't working which was annoying as we could not get in our room without the assistance of a staff member. The bedroom was very impersonal (overhead lighting does very little for the atmosphere of any room) and had the minimum of space.

  • 8/10 Anonymous ( Mature couple)

Good central position providing access to shopping and sight seeing. Peaceful setting.

Clearer instructions on how to operate the heating/ air conditioning would have been helpful. ( They were hidden beside the wardrobe)

  • 8/10 Anonymous ( Mature couple)

    on  November 22, 2005

"The room had an independent heating/aircon system which we found to be not that easy to control. Also, the radiator in our bathroom was not working. The standard of service in the restaurant could have been better (wine opened before it reached our table, coffee at breakfast not really hot). Overall a little disappointing, not one of our best choices!" (2805875)

    Very comfortable.

Food and service in the resaturant.

Very comfortable rooms, which were modern and clean and even had sky channels. We visited Howletts Zoo which we could have walked to. Some of the zoo keepers visit the pub in the evenings." (2846068)

Very modern comfortable and clean rooms with a great shower (worth a return just for a wash)

"Hotel was well situated, pleasant, clean, staff efficient, food good to very good. The restaurant was on the small side, ceiling lowish, but didn't pose a major problem!" (2868894)

Friendly helpful staff, room was clean. Would suggest the family room bathroom has towel racks...with 8 towels for the four of us, it was a matter of finding room for them! However not a major hassle. Laundry bags?

Restaurant service (admittedly on a Sunday night)was very sloooow.

Beautifully appointed, although compact, bedroom and bathroom. Comfortable beds.

  • 10/10 David ( Family with young children)

    from Buntingford , United Kingdom;GB  on  October 31, 2005

"The accommodation is easy to find, being located on the main road through Littlebourne at the top of the hill. However the rooms are in a converted barn at the rear of the property beyond the spacious car park which makes for a quiet and pleasant stay. As we were there mid-week the place was not busy so I can't say whether this would be different come the weekend. We had one meal in the restaurant which was good value with a reasonable choice and the staff were very accommodating to our children's requirements. The family room was clean, tidy, decorated tastefully and everything worked. The air-conditioning allowed the room to be just right temperature-wise. Beds comfy. I would stay at the Evenhill again." (2865625)

The Evenhill was central to the areas we wanted to visit. The rooms were comfortable and in a separate block away from the main pub. Nice English breakfast.

"I love this place. The chef is a little stiff, but his breakfast was very good (but no yoghurt seen, despite menu). Excellent coffee and draft beers (Sheperd Neame brewery) are superb. When I return to the Canterbury area I will stay nowhere else. Highly recommended; great value. This how hotels should be." (2856562)

I'd stayed here once before - the reason I booked it again. It's a delight. Very thoughtfully and elegantly presented. Loads of hot water and nice stuff in the bathroom. Snow-white sheets and towels. Well-appointed room, for both business and pleasure.

Business in the bar was slow and the girl seemed to disappear for long periods, reading a book or whatever. She should have bben at the bar.
