"Excellent accomodation with very pleasant staff. Breakfast menu very extensive with freshly prepared food. Evening menu limited and a little on the expensive side but very enjoyable food. The home-made bread is well worth sampling!" (97562612)

The annexe accomodation was close enough to feel part of the premises but far enough away not to be disturbed by the general running of the public house.

Error with booking - staff managed to rearrange rooms to get us a family room, which was excellent service. Lovely hotel and rooms. Food was excellent.

Error with booking - I booked a family of four and found the night before we left that it had only gone across as 2 adults. They asked if we wanted a paper in the morning but didn't tell us they would charge us extra for it. Service in dining room was fairly slow and poor.

"A pleasant stay marred only by 2 obnoxious badly behaved children from one family in the restaurant. We have children of a similar age, and there's no way we would let them run around creating havok like this.. There were other well behaved kids there who set a much better example. After a word with one of the waitresses we were moved to a quieter area - as were most of the other people who had to sit near this family from hell." (97605041)

    Food and setting

Slow and forgetful service in the restaurant. Little details - light bulbs missing in corridors, no pencil or pen and paper in the room.

A great experience for one who had never been to this part of Suffolk; staff were obliging, efficient and friendly; the ambience was good; the food was quite outstanding. This hotel set a standard that few of similar facilities could emulate. Well done! We will definitely return.

"It was a lovely stay with pleasant staff in beautiful surroundings. The garden we looked out on while having dinner and breakfast was quite splendid. The hotel environment made us feel as if we had had lengthy weekend break rather than a one-night stopover. The breakfast was excellent, with a great choice of traditional English breakfast fare. The only downside is the cost. Living on the continent makes us very aware of how expensive being a tourist in England is." (99955647)

"A pleasant country inn in a attractive small Suffolk village." (97046389)

Staff were welcoming and helpful. Public areas including the bars, conservatory and gardens were well-presented. Room was clean and tidy and well-appointed. Food was excellent and choices of wine and beer very good.

Having paid extra for a "Best" room I was rather disappointed with the location of the room we were given. The window was very small and offered only a limited view of the yard. As the room was located immediately above the entrance to the hotel we were disturbed by noise from other guests returning late at night and leaving early in the morning.

Good, relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. Courteous and charming staff. Excellent food - nothing too much trouble for guests with food intolerances as I am coeliac (ie gluten free) Superb garden.

Only one - room too small for 'better'description. No drawers. However, beautiful bathroom.

The food was good but not exceptional and some indication of price would help future guests. The only criticism we have is that, like many establishments, the cost of wine is high by comparison with other drinks." (97844342)

"The overall professionalism of the staff and attention to detail was excellent from the bouquet garni bath essence left on the roll top bath in the room to the table setting in the 'snug' area. Our room 'Curlew' was tastefully decorated in white with white shutters and white sanitary ware (Fired Earth). The smell of the open fires was comforting and welcoming. The bar area needs better style of lighting and the wall colouring needed changing to a warmer tone we felt (but we are now being picky!). The food quality, choice, portions and presentation was excellent. We thoroughly recommend a visit." (99077432)

Clean and tidy hotel. Nice clean room. Good food and nice bar.

Only two gripes. Mean with shampoo. Just two small bottles supplied. Had shower when got there as busy morning. None left for the next morning. Only four milk portions, just enough for two cups of tea/coffee. Good job we brought some with us. Niggly i know but for over £100 a night could spend a few more pennies.

Breakfast is there speciality - i had bacon ( 2 rashers), tomato (half), mushrooms (1), blackpudding (1 slice), food very yummy but not very filling. It took a lot for me to pay so much for one night but hoped it would be worth it. Think i and my husband were disapointed. For just a few silly errors. well thats life" (97193971)

The coffee came without spoons and sugar. They are not unfriendly but lack of interest, not quite sure what they were doing. By the number of staff(seven) at the restaurant (8 tables), they were suppose to perform well. But the food was great, good portion and nice presentation. Yet in the breakfast, the scrambled egg was soggy, the sliced chorizo and salame weren't fresh with brownish coloration. It is a shame, the place is beautiful, great location, nice accomodation." "I have given you my views above. I would like to have known more about the accommodation in the Best sector which I am told is graded by size. I would have preferred a larger room in a quiet part of the hotel without the dreaded free-standing bath! We preferred a twin bedded room but the Bittern was a double (although very large) which was acceptable but this was not stated in the literature. I was pleased to find this hotel and would choose it again with the provisions stated.... alot of money has been spent on the interior design and decor...some of it unwisely... but I liked the atmosphere and the service extended to us both." (3305183235)

Having booked best room status we were allocated the Bittern room. This was ground-level and over-looked on both sides necessitating drawinig curtains when privacy was required. There was a free standing bath IN the bedroom. How an elderly couple were supposed to get in or out of this would have been quite interesting ....there were no grab rails or other aids.!We were told the room had been designed for handicapped people.... the en-suite shower was huge but again no support rails. Not the accommodation we had hoped for and we requested a move. The manager was extremely helpful and did all within his powers to satisfy us. We eventually accepted a lower grade room (Avocet) which was adequate, small and quite noisy being on the main road and above the main bar. That said,it was extremely comfortable the beds, linen, pillows and general appointments were very good indeed. The staff were most helpful and the food was very good.

I have no major dislikes about the decor except the installation of free-standing baths in some of the best rooms otherwise it was quite attractive.

Would have been nice to see bar staff smile, restaurant staff all or nothing, asked if we would like dessert before having main course. The room we stayed in [chaffinch] very modern but noisy we were woken in the night by people returning to upstairs room via external steps and noisy water system." (3304772030)
