Fantastic location, friendly staff & good breakfast
The rooms were too warm and it took 4 requests from the reception to collect a fan!

Good situation near the centre of Harrogate.
Very noisy at night - there was a bar close by with outside tables. It did not get quiet until about 2am on both night of our stay making it difficult to get a good night's sleep.

"Sorry but I would find it hard to stay here again at this price" (97136684)
Helpful staff at reception
Room was cold with no way to heat. The room overlooked a noisy bar which kept us awake until after 2am. The person in the room above sounded if he was clogg dancing all night

"The room was great...clean with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was huge and very clean - I loved the big, fluffy towels. I requested, and was given, a room in the quite area of the hotel after read other reviews about some rooms being too near noisy areas of the hotel. I didn't have any problems with the noise level." (97410883)
Room was great - spacious with a huge bathroom.
Disliked having to pay for wireless connection - should be included in room rate. Parking was a bit of a problem, too. The on-site parking is inadequate. I had to pay for parking about half of my visit.

"There was a minimal amount of parking - maybe a discount negotiated between hotel & local car parks would have helped. The dining area was very nice, however there was little menu choice for vegetarians & as such we did not eat in the hotel. Breakfast was excellent. The staff throughout were helpful & friendly." (97151475)
The accommodation appeared classy from the outside and there had clearly been some large scale refurbishment in rooms and in public areas
The finishing of the refurbishment however was of poor quality for such a highly rated establishment. Paint left on the bathroom floor etc. Also the floors were extremely creaky and there was no shelving/drawer space of any note.

"Good location and hotel, let down by points above." (97596569)
Good location and standard of rooms. A good standard of breakfast was included.
Some minor issues: Our bedroom was at the back of the hotel and the main issue was noise of people leaving from local nightclub until 2 a.m.; other problems included, main electrical plug socket not working and some dirty marks on toilet/bathroom wall.

"Having read the other reviews I was concerned about disruption due to refurbing, and also lack of parking. I believe the refurb is finished now, as there was no disruption, and the hotel room was clean with new carpet/bathroom, etc. The car park is small (approx 15 spaces) but there is on-street parking opposite the hotel and a large car park within 2 mins walk. The hotel is very central and perfectly situated for pubs, shops, turkish baths, park etc. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially the concierge." (97914188)
Very central, convenient location. Excellent, friendly staff. Recently refurbed, with clean and well presented rooms.
Cooked breakfast was below average. No room in the small car park but the concierge directed me to cheap parking just opposite the hotel.

We were more than satisfied overall with the accomodation. The modern facilities were most welcome
The bed was very comfortable, indeed too much so. Having had back problems in the past a firmer bed would have been preferable.

"There is little for us to add further except to say we would use the hotel again at times when there are good value offers The hotel is very convenient for a stay in Harrogate - its centrality means that the town can be esily accessed`on foot" (97346674)
W liked the overall comfort and cleanliness and found staff to be unfailingly friendly, helpful and courteous Breakfast was excellent - a varied and ample supply of food - perhaps a jug of hot water with the pot of tea would be a good idea!
Poor car parking facilities and a lack of information about alternative facilities

"We were at the front of the hotel which had spotlights on all night, which came into our room, giving us a very restless night, might be worth having blackout blinds at the front of the hotel. Will ask for a room at the back if we book again. Bathroom was very small, but the condition was excellent. Excellent breakfast and very helpful staff." (97802784)
Location was excellent. Nice room, although a little on the small side.

It was clean & modern, and everything worked. New bathrooms and good sized rooms for singles. Well thought out accommodation.
One of my party's room was located next to the lift shaft and she got hardly any sleep. The other was kept awake by late night revellers. I slept soundly!

"First night was quiet in the restaurant and the food and service was excellant. On the second night it was busy in the restaurant and my wife and I reversed our first night's choices of food. My starter was cold, my main course was not as ordered and my wife's main course was poor. We were not charged for the main courses so we were disappointed but satisfied with the action taken. Luckily breakfast made up for the previous night and we would try the hotel again especially as it had not been open long since its refurbishment and we accept it takes time staff and services to come together...." (97411549)
Location, food
Refurbishment could have done with more thought! Bathroom had no ventilation so mirror and walls were running with condensation when showering. Also there was no where to put anything while showering and the towel rail was not within reach of the bath (a health and safety issue). The bath surface was enamelled with no no slip surface (a health and safety issue!)

"Breakfast was very extensive and my wife enjoyed hers from the buffet counter, but I was disappointed with my cooked breakfast on each occasion. I thought both the bacon and sausage were mediocre, which was a great shame because everything else we used at the hotel seemed to be the best quality. We were impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, and the overall feel of the hotel." (97912734)
The hotel is very grand and stylish. We liked the historical element.
While the room was adequate in size and perfectly clean, we felt it lacked storage facilities, both in the bedroom and bathroom.

"The lack of comfortable seating within the room was my primary problem, the rest I could cope with on a short term basis. My other problem was accessing my room which involved going up 2 small sets of stairs once I had come out of the lift.O.K. on a day to day basis but not with luggage.Afternoon tea would also have been a nice option." "For the single night of our stay it was quite adequate. For a longer stay there was little storage. No drawer space was provided. The public rooms are impressive. The amount of breakfast choice was extensive and the cooked food was excellent." (97572692)
Convenient situation
For a newly refurbished room several items stood out. An electrical extension from the socket to the dressing table lamp. Inadequate lighting for the dressing table. Odd shaped lights on the wall above the bed- ideally placed to catch your head when sat up in bed.

Centrally located, large room and pleasant contemporary decor in period property. Pleasant staff and excellent breakfast selection.
A little noisy and very little in the way of parking, although in fairness as we arrived on a Friday afternoon we managed to get a space but suspect may have struggled on a Saturday.

"The Crown has all that you would expect by way of room accommodtion and a great location with plenty of parking. However the breakfast was disappointing and the hot buffet was limited and not of particular good quality. The cold buffet was better but agin there seemed to be fewer choices than suggested on the table menu. AS you were expected to help yourself it was difficult to attract the attention of staff from who it was necessary to order coffee etc." (97833182)
It was near to the centre and reasonably well appointed
Lack of individuality about the room and no drawer space for longer stays, it seemed more geared to the conference trade than leisure guests.
