It was impossible to have a bath or a shower as the cold tap was jammed shut

    "Good overall" (107276050)

Good location, top class chef excellent food

Some restaurant staff had a problem understanding English or having a bad day. Allocated room not cleaned on check in.

"Good, apart from the waiting staff. I would perhaps stay again, but I would consider other hotels in the region for this reason, and before booking here again." (107153960)

    Clean room, comfortable, well equipped.

he waiting staff were aggressive and even rude - I was greeted at breakfast on both days by a terse "For how many?" (meaning a table for how many). No "Good morning", no welcome at all. The staff appeared to find guests a nuisance. Also the same staff then had to move us to the lounge (the restaurant was full) and gave every impression this was a big problem - and our fault. Also, like most hotel rooms, the room was way too hot. I'm sure you could save a fortune by turning down the heat a little.

"Despite the slight breakfast glitches I found this hotel excellent value for money and would definitely book it again." (107206879)

Very nice and well maintained room and building, clearly everything has been recently renovated. Very attentive staff. We had booked a double room for two adults and one child and when we arrived there was an extra bed in our room for no extra charge. There was also no charge for the breakfast for our son.

The breakfast was a little chaotic, it took a very long time to get the cooked food (it must be said that it was very busy with lots of guests breakfasting at the same time). The coffee and tea at breakfast were quite horrible but the food (when it finally arrived) was excellent.

"We were more than pleasantly surprised at the quality and standard not only of the room, but of the hotel generally. The staff were helpful and the meal very well cooked and presented. If I have a complaint, it is that the bar does not have bitter on draught as I prefer bitter to lager, but then this is an unimportant remark." (97433215)

We liked the warm atmosphere of the room and the toilet facilities are of good standard.

"Convenient and central to the city. Comfortable and the staff were most helpful at all times." (97232915)

Quality of bathroom fittings and general cleanliness. Car parking facilities.

Noise from doors to other rooms being slammed shut late at night after wedding reception. No separate sheet on bed, which was hot at times when duvet was used.

"We booked two rooms, an executive room for my wife and myself, and a superior for our son. we found the executive room had a smaller bed than the superior room, it would have been nice to know this before we booked, although the executive room was very well furnished, but the bed as a little too bouncy. The bedrooms however were of a high standard but the decor in the public areas of the hotel was a bit dated and dark, but that is only my personal taste., All the staff were excellent, and looked after us very well on what was a very busy weekend for them." (97116661)

The staff were very friendly and very efficient

the bedroom was very hot even with the heating off

Just very comfortable and very pleasant staff, who now I have stayed quite a few times, do remember me as a regular quest. Thats good customer service in my book.

If the hotel has a function, resident parking becomes an issue

"The hotel met all my major requirements: Near city centre, reasonably near airport, near the Hertz car rental office, excellent, safe and ample car park (no charge). Reasonably priced and not pretentious. Comfortable and relaxed lounge and bar area." (99603350)

I found it a confortable and very friendly hotel

  • 4/10 Paul ( Mature couple)

from Bedford , GB  on  May 20, 2007

"Our complaint about a previous guests underwear in the room was not dealt with promptly. We had been very specific at reception about it's location in the morning, but it was still there when we returned in the evening. We also requested that the top of the wardrobe was cleaned. The suitcase we stored there (because there was no where else with enough space)picked up a lot of dirt and identified the problem, and my wife was aware of the stale smell in the room. The cleaning staff subsequently found a pornographic magazine and a used condom on the top of the wardrobe. All of this indicates that the rooms are not checked carefully and we were offended by the implication that we had something to do with these disgusting articles. We are used to staying in 4 and 5 star hotels and this is not the sort of presentation or behaviour of the staff we find acceptable. We had booked for 4 nights, but checked out after two." (99106723)

The overall impression was of the hotel was good, which is why we booked on the internet. The bar and the dining room were well presented.

We found the superior room to be very small and the pillows were flat and uncomfortable, but more importantly see below.

  • 8/10 Anne ( Solo business traveller)

"Comfortable, well decorated hotel with very helpful staff and good sitting areas. Not near enough the quay or town centre for walking comfortably, but excellent for business travellers or those with cars." (99219031)

Excellent lounge bar and lawn, where I was able to enjoy drinks and dinner in the sunshine

The particular section of the hotel where my room was located (above the reception desk) was much too hot, despite the radiator being off, and as a result I had a poor night's sleep. The other areas of the accommodation, judging from the corridor, were at a normal temperature.

"I positively liked being out of the city - it was much quieter. Buses are excellent and the walk of 20 minutes or so is straightforward. Hotel was comfortable and efficient with excellent choice and quality for breakfast. Bar food was also excellent and the bar was a pleasant place to sit at the end of the day. I wouldn't hesitate to book here again when we revisit the South West." (99698893)

Hotel was located very well and easy to find, plenty of car parking spaces and the room was well appointed

Some of the decor and fittings in the bathroom were looking very tired and in need of some refurbishment, and during booking in the telphone was constaly answered ignoring me with no applogy for this

"I chose a bad time to visit this hotel although no one let me know this in advance. All the rooms around mine were being renovated, with drilling and banging starting before I was up in the morning - not good. I guess this would be a major criticism of booking online, the hotel might have warned me if I had contacted them directly. I would only recommend this hotel on the basis that you check that all the room renovations are finished. My room would certainly benefit from updating." (99246364)

Pleasant public areas, cosy bar. Clean and functional room. Staff fine.

Room and bathroom rather dated - see below.

"Room and bed very comfortable. Plasma screen great, although was expecting additional channels, didn't even have Channel 5. Check-in was a joke, took 45 mins as the receptionist repeatedly stopped dealing with me in order to answer the phone as soon as it started ringing, leaving me waiting with no apology - a basic lack of customer service skills. However rest of staff efficient and friendly. Food in the bar area was very nice, as was breakfast in the restaurant." (99534278)

The best night's sleep I have ever had in a hotel.

    Check-in was shambolic.

"Excellent hotel to stay if you are visiting Exeter - walk to the city is about 20min or there is a bus service just outside the hotel. A very clean and well run hotel - staff very friendly and helpful (ordered flowers for my wifes birthday in advance - they were just as I had hoped and there in the room on arrival). Our room was excellent , the restaurant meals and sevice were very good - would not hesitate to recommend this hotel." (99088073)

Friendly and very helpful staff - room decor and cleanliness excellent - restaurant food and service also very good - location was excellent for visiting Exeter with a delightful walk along the river toget to the town center/quay shops or a direct walk to the town center (approx 15-20min).

Very minor point - some of the staff do not speak/understand English that well which can lead to a negative impression to some of their initial responces but they all are really trying to help and the universal language of a smile and a laugh pays dividends
