"disappointed, glad we didn't try the food." (107220381)

"Staff were friendly and helpfull and the hotel was conviniently situated on a direct bus route into Manchester city centre. The room was small and very basic, the bathroom was abit 'grubby' and the room smelled upon arrival. I would say for the price was OK, but I would not stay again." (107220324)

Room was in need of refurbishment and the bed was very uncomfortable

  • 2/10 Anonymous ( Solo leisure traveller)

    on  June 6, 2008

    "Awful." (97135312)

Although I had expected basic accommodation due to the price range of the hotel the room was disgusting. Dirty, mouldy and stained. The bed was broken, mould on the mirrors and dripping from the shower. The toilet fell apart as you flushed. The carpet had hairs on it and was sticky. The sheets had hairs on them. If I had the time I would have walked out and gone elsewhere but I did not have time to.

"Booking arrangements indicate breakfast is no longer included in the room price. However on arriving in reception on our second morning, we were told that no breakfast at all was available that day. Consequently we had to make hurried alternative arrangements at 8.30 a.m. Not easy! The cooked breakfast on the first day was adequate, but not good value. However, there was no other option e.g. not a grain of cereal. This is clearly a reduction in choice and value. Although we have used the Lansdowne in the past, we would now hesitate to do so again." (97967781)

    Bedding was clean. Clean towels.

Room size almost inadequate as double; bed jammed in corner and no room for bedside table. Only one small pillow each provided, although further pillows provided on request. Sanitary-ware in bathroom clean, but floor plus other decor very grubby.

"If I had seen this room before I had booked it I would have not booked it. We would have gone elsewhere." (97979685)

The receptionist was friendly. The sheets and towels wrwe clean. The waitress was friendly and polite.

The room was smelled of cigarette smoke. This was so bad that all our clothes cmelled of smoke afterwards. There was a view of the rubbish bins. The lighting for the bed side table was not accessible from the bed. The remote controls for the television could not be found. The tiles in the shower were chipped. The furniture was chipped and tatty. The bed was hard. The breakfast (bacon and egg) was overcooked.

"I booked this hotel without recommendation and had read the reviews of other guests so I knew there were a few issues with cleanliness. my bathroom was not good, bin had not been emptied and the tiles and floor desperately needed cleaned. I bought a bottle of bleach and got on with it as I wasn't planning to spend any time there. The staff however were very warm and friendly and smiley which helped to ease the disappointment of the place. Its a basic budget hotel and its really worth keeping that in mind." (99371833)

    location was important

    Standard of cleanliness

"We found the hotel very easy to find and settle into. The staff were a pleasure and continually helpful throughout. Our room's were adequate for the price and we were very happy to find the bar open when we got back from Old Trafford. Also, quick and cheap buses outside were get for getting into the centre. Definatly somewhere where we would consider again if we were to travel to Manchester." (99366863)

"Manchester is a lovely city with very friendly. I'll be back. The receptionist was very friendly but the room was small and dirty. The bathroom was dirty and had kilos of silicon sealant between every wall and floor joint. The shower was simply a pity. Could'nt wait to get out and will not be back to the same hotel. Tom Ireland" (99122840)

    Friendly Receptionist

Small room, bathroom held together with silicon, shower was a pity to behold.

"I broke my foot in an accident while I was staying there and the staff did everything they could to make me more comfortable, I didn't even have to ask for anything. I will definitely be going back when I'm better. The food and service was excellent, and I can't praise the hotel enough. Nothing was too much bother for the staff there. I was very impressed and would recommend the Landsdowne Hotel to other people planning a stay in Manchester." (99021495)

the staff were very friendly and helpful.

    Nothing, it was fantastic

"This was a good 2 star hotel. Staff helpful and friendly and very good breakfast. It obviously is in need of updating in decor and room furniture but did have extrs like tea and coffee in room and sachets in bathroom. No bedside lights so had to get up to turn off all lights. Good television reception. I would stay here again for odd nights. Value for what it cost me." (99487145)

    Clean

    Definitely in need of updating.

  • 8/10 Michael ( Solo business traveller)

    from Shrewsbury , United Kingdom;GB  on  February 28, 2007

"On a main road so some traffic noise but double glazed. Slightly shabby but clean. It's a big 'Bed and Breakfast' rather than a hotel. No lounge. A big TV dominated breakfast. Plenty of local restaurants for evening meals. It's near the Curry Mile." (99937233)

A single person room rate. The room had all I wanted - TV and hot drinks

    Slightly too hot at night

  • 7/10 Andrew ( Mature couple)

    from Guildford , United Kingdom;GB  on  February 21, 2007

"This hotel seems to have improved noticeably since I last stayed. It is still basic and some of the fittings are a bit tired, but things are clean and in our room at least it all worked. Rooms quite small, bathroom even smaller. Breakfast is very good and service was prompt and friendly. Well located for Fallowfield and nearby areas; frequent buses into City centre. There is a club in the same building and the throb from the music can be very noticeable in certain parts of the building till early a.m. (don't know if it's every night). It is one of the cheapest hotels in the area and good value if you are just after somewhere basic to stay." (99385052)

All essentials in room; it all worked

Bathroom a bit small; towel rail distant from shower.

lack of heating in the rooms during the day

  • 3/10 David ( Solo business traveller)

"Staff were OK, room was bad, no heating but given electric radiator. Woken at half five to check why room underneath was hearing water dripping, my non working radiator was leaking, bathroom was awful, very scruffy bedside table covered in cigarette burns. I used to live near the hotel so looked forward to coming back, will definetly not be back again, which is a shame to me." (99578161)

  • 4/10 Danny ( Mature couple)

    from Doncaster , United Kingdom;GB  on  January 31, 2007

Location. The breakfast was of a good standard and the staff were friendly and helpful.

We stayed in room 107. The room was very dirty. There was a pair of socks on the floor behind the toilet which suggests that the bathroom had not been cleaned properly. The shower was full of mould and my partner refused to use it. One of the single beds rocked sideways which led to an uncomfortable nights sleep. The stairway was dirty. There were bars on the window which would prevent escape in a fire and there appeared to be a lock on the firedoor at the end of the corridor.

  • 5/10 Anonymous ( Solo business traveller)

Staff were all very courteous and breakfast was good. Free newspaper with breakfast or was offered to have delivered to room. Lots of good lower cost restaurants close by and on main road to downtown.

Bathroom very dirty, but everything still worked OK. Smell of vomit in hallway in morning. Grid-lock morning traffic jam on outside road to city center.

  • 6/10 Anonymous ( Solo business traveller)

"As it was only an overnight stay it was ok. My room wasn't the best but the service and staff were friendly. The breakfast was nice and the hotel had good facilities. I would use the hotel again if in Manchester as it was good value for money. I would be interested to see if the other rooms are better and giving the benefit of the doubt." (99443280)

The hotel its self was clean and tidy in appearance and staff were friendly.

Single room needed renewing, window didn't seem to shut properly and the TV and a couple of sockets didn't work in the room.
