"Hotel is in excellent location near shops and all transport links." (97812225)

    Nice bedroom furniture.

Hotel being renovated still some work to be done in bathroom including door lock No lift quite a lot of steep stairs.

"A lift would be a big asset to this Hotel. The staff were all helpful and pleasant.Value for money,a good hotel for such a central postion. The room was large and so was the bathroom and had all the facilities you would need." (97531051)

Central position. Easy access to Aberdeen amenities and Station.Good big room and large bathroom.Good dining room and Food.

Noisy, due to position near docks and Bus and Train staions, but there has to be a compromise.Too many stairs to climb for us older clients.

    "VEry convenient location" (97333068)

The upgrade was obvious and when the new restayurant opens it will make a BIG difference.

The current eating area is just OK

"Aberdeen is generally expensive for hotels, with few facilites this didn't really offer value for money." (97401084)

    Good location

    No restaurant or bar facilities

"The staff were very friendly and I was made to feel right at home. Hotel is central to all the shops so getting around was easy. When the time came for me to check out and move to another hotel (due to work reasons, had to be closer to a venue that was out of the city) I didn't want to leave!" (97089467)

Even though the room was small I felt it was far better then other hotel rooms I have stayed in. The decoration of the room was really good and the bathroom was of adaquate size.

    No sky television.

"Check in was effecient. All staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. Area a bit run down but location good for tranport links and Union Street. Overall, we found this hotel very good value and plans for future refurbishment can only improve on things further. Have stayed in many city hotels and this was one of the best for the price paid." (97309170)

Room was clean and very spacious. Although it was on the front, it was not noisy.

Bit of a problem with hot water.

"Clean, pleasant stay with friendly and efficient staff. No parking is an issue along with no restaurant but plenty of other places to eat in the very close vicinity" (97895898)

The bed was comfy and the room and bathroom were both very clean and the staff were very friendly.

No parking (although free car park from 6pm to 8am was 5 minute walk away) and no restaurant. Website made it look like there was a restaurant available- booked a table for 3 but was not informed there was no restaurant available till April

I thought the staff were very friendly and caring, and the facilities were very good for this type of hotel. The central location was also a bonus.

  • 8/10 Cheryl ( Young couple)

from Edinburgh , GB  on  December 12, 2007

"It is a pleasent hotel that is well situated and the rooms are more than adequate with nice decore and comfy furnishings. The hotel staff are friendly but are strict on certain rules. I think this hotel will be very nice once it is finished but at present it is going through some refurbishment which made the general atmosphere of the place a little disorganised and untidy. Having said that the room was very nice and I would definately stay there again." (97762457)

The room was very pleasent with a large luxurious bathroom. With a bath tub and shower. It was situated in a very convenient area, near the train/bus station and within walking distance of the main shopping street as well as bars and restaurants. The staff were also were friendly. And the cooked breakfasts were good.

Whilst we were staying they were doing some refurbishment and although our room was perfect the hall ways and area just outside our room was full of stepladders, sawdust and workmen. Im sure once the refurbishment is complete the hotel will be lovely and the workmen didn't really bother us apart from the odd drilling sound. There was also strict rules about not being able to eat in the room which we found a little unfair seeing as there was no restaurant to get an evening meal and we didn't want to have to eat out every evening. The hot water also took a while to heat up althought the sign in the bathroom assures us that they are getting the plumbing changed soon.

"The staff were very friendly, however they were a bit relaxed, I would have expected a slighlty more professional service. However when we required taxis etc, they were more than willing to get them for us. I expect that when the hotel has the renovations completed, it will look alot better. Another point, which was slightly frustrating was the fact that in order to use the shower, you had to run the hot tap for the bath and sink in order to get hot water in the shower - we got used to it quickly but it is a total waste of water!" (97274743)

The Contemporary style of the rooms

When we arrived there was scaffolding erected directly outside our bedroom door . We had to squeeze our way past, then next few hours (2pm - 4.30pm)were spent listening to a builder banging on steel taking it down. Very frustrating as we had been up since 04:30 am that morning and were hoping to get some sleep before going to a concert we had booked that night

"It would have been usefull to know to hotel was undergoing refurbishment althoughthe room is was allocated had been refurbished to a very high standard." (97993255)

Standard of decor and furnishings in the room is excellent

The hotel is underrefurbishment and very shabby.

  • 8/10 Anonymous ( Mature couple)

    on  November 9, 2007

"The hotel is undergoing renovation and promises to be quite nice when finished. Until then, guests should expect an unfinished appearance to parts of the hotel and understand that this is why rates are much lower than at other Aberdeen hotels. Similarly, the area in which it is located--by the docks and train station--is undergoing gentrification and may become the place to be in the future, but currently it is a tad shoddy and some of its denizens are sketchy. However, we did not feel unsafe. Union Street and downtown Aberdeen are only a block away." (97977381)

Location, friendliness of staff, prompt response to a problem

    The absence of a lift

"When booking on-line all rooms are described as executive. It would be helpful to specify if these are twins or doubles which are available as opposed to having to specify which type of room you require in the request box." (97179591)

Excellent accommodation, friendly staff and first class cooked breakfast.

    "Good value package" (97418167)

Convenient central location, friendly staff and well appointed room.

Lack of nearby parking, heating did not work, no ventilation to bathroom & toilet seat which wouild not stay up!(hotel undergoing renovations)

  • 4/10 Joseph ( Solo business traveller)

from Frissington , GB  on  July 22, 2007

"Just about adequate for a one night stay but the price of the room was not good value for the standard of the hotel and amenities. I have stayed in hotels in this area before and payed almost half the price as the St Magnus for better facilities." (97592391)

    Size of room and bathroom

No bar, No public telephone, dining room was old looking and scruffy

"overall, remembering that the building is very old, the hotel is O.K. Staff are very friendly and were helpful when we had some problems with the room. As for breakfast - stick to the cold foods. hot food is very greasy." (99535752)

Location close to the train station.

Location close to the harbour. Shower would not drain - staff gave us another room quickly.

  • 6/10 Brenda ( Mature couple)

from York , GB  on  July 11, 2007

    Close to town.

When we first arrived the door did not close very well in our room. We had to ask for extra towels (only 1 set available for 2 of us). Breakfast -scrambled eggs not cooked very well. Having to always drop your key off every time you went out. Window would not open very well; we had to prop it open.

"We really enjoyed staying here. The staff was great--friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. We came to think of the hotel as more of a quaint inn than a hotel, and were quite happy with it. It had a lot of character, and the renovations should bring out more of the hotel's charm. The location was excellent, too." (99498788)

The staff was extremely helpful and accomodating. Our room was small, but quaint. As the hotel continues to undergo its renovation, I can only hope it keeps its unique feel. Also, the location is excellent. It's right off the main shopping district, close to museums and restaurants, and adjacent to the bus and train stations. We also enjoyed overlooking the harbor while having breakfast.

The renovations were only a very minor inconvenience.

The room was clean and tidy and obviously very new.

Office block over the road looked straight into the room. Closing curtains meant darkness. Sink too small for a man to shave.

  • 9/10 Norman ( Mature couple)

Very friendly staff and also very helpful

The hotel is in the process of upgrading, with work on going - but that was acceptable - and good
