"This hotel is one of the loveliest we have stayed at. The accommodation has character but is informal. The food has a wide choice to suit most palettes and the scenery and atmosphere around is very peaceful in what feels a very remote spot alongside the river but in actual fact is only just off the main road and only a short distance to all amenities." (97107663)

Location is lovely, the staff are welcoming and value for money.

The food was great and the staff were very helpful

The shower was not powerful enough

The room was amazing. A really great pub and hotel in the country.

A bit too far from Canterbury town Centre cost us £15 in a taxi.

" i knew of the pub/location as i used to drink there 30 years ago when it had fishing nets and a old rowing boat on the celing and no decking outside, just the river some seats and the ducks, still a lovely pub !! didnt try the food as we had arranged to go out with my parents but maybe next time !! the full english breakfast was very nice though." (99710011)

the hotel was clean and tidy & nicely decorated, the staff where polite and keen to help with bags ect,

the only bad point was in our room (4)there was a constant noise of a motoriesed pump comming from the loft ?? it may have been a central heating pump but it was comming on every 30 - 45 seconds and lasting for about 1 min 30 seconds during the day time hours, it was off when we came in at 1.00 am !! but was going again at 7.45 am when i woke up to go to breakfast just as well i didnt want a lay in !!

Room very spacious even with a third bed as a family room. Breakfast was top class using local produce. Also able to have facility to return late at night.

Only that as 6 foot 3ins the bed could be a 6inches longer

"This would have been a lovely inn ten years ago and has potential but really needs a good clean and updating, the building looks tired and worn, it was not a busy place but the owners didn't seem to go out of their way for their guests. Upon arrival there is nothing to say how you check in and the bar staff weren't quick to assist when they saw us arrive, this is great for a one nighter so long as you don't want to be off early in the morning, otherwise you go without breakfast, I felt the owners could have done a bit more to make their guests feel welcome." (97571639)

    Beautiful setting

Inn was tired needed sprucing up and a good clean, shower on first night was pathetic but found out how to work it second night, there was no manual on how to work anything in the room, slightly tricky....breakfast wasn't served until 8.30 although it said 7.30 on literature, no food available upon arrival as it was Sunday and restaurant closed at 4!

"Most enjoyable stay. Good starting point for exploring East Kent." (97048228)

Pleasant room overlooking the river, with balcony. Everything worked. Bed comfortable kingsize. Meals not particularly adventurous but suited us fine.

    1. We would have liked cupboard with drawer space in our room. We had to live out of our suitcase - not too bad just for a weekend but drawers would have been better. 2. We would have liked to have had warning that evening meal was not available on the Sunday. Don't think this was said in any of the information about the hotel in the room.

"Overall we felt hotel a bit tired looking . Very noisy heating or cooling system starting 6.15 am going through till 10.30 pm .Toilet did not flush too well . I would suggest that a bit of money needs to be spent to bring hotel up to date ." (97064223)

Location , size of room , breakfast

noise from cooling unit/heating system early till late .Water pressure not good

"The rooms were good and very clean. The staff were great and always cheerful and friendly. The Showers were unuseable until just after 8am, due to low water pressure, however this is being investigated. Food was very good but could have been a little warmer when served." (97306594)

    Friendly staff

Showers were very poor until just after 8 am.

"The rural setting is a great place to start an evening. The real ales on tap are a welcome bonus anytime and these were very good. The food is a treat and the service was better than some four stars I have stayed in. There is a balcony that overlooks the river running past the hotel. I am planning my return trip already." (97708127)

It was well appointed, quite, and very convenient

I disliked having to get up because it was so peacefull

clean and spacious. The whole place was very cosy and friendly. Excellent value for money

would have been nice to have a bigger tv with more than 4 channels. bed was on the small side.

"The above points are small in relation to the cost -the hotel offered excellent value in all respects- attention to the above small points, however, would lift it into a higher class without too much effort. With these attended too I believe few would begrudge paying more for what is a very good setting and level of service" (97806398)

Beautiful location and generally excellently appointed. Very helpful & friendly staff -good food well presented and cooked

Our room although clean with a good aspect lacked any wadrobe or drawer space (only an open rack for hanging clothes)Shower was a dribbler-those small eclectric ones are never satisfactory!

"Although the manager did inform us before hand that there was going to be a wedding on the night we had booked, we had no idea that the music would not stop until gone 2 in the morning!!!! This is not our idea of a fun weekend when you have a baby and have to be up at 6.30am anyway! Everything else was lovely." (97193847)

Simple but clean room at reasonable price with excellent service and good quality restaurant in idealic location.

    No wardrobe or drawers.

  • 9/10 John (Mature couple)

Warm and friendly atmosphere. The food was excellent. Great care and pride is taken in keeping their beer to the highest standard. Lots of local information and history available with the bird reserve on the front doorstep. In easy reach of North Coast of Kent, Canterbury and Faversham.

The fan in the bathroom was not functioning.
