Secluded, yet close by Windermere village and Bowness Bay, this traditional hotel is set within a haven of peace and tranquillity, in the ancient beauty of the Gilpin Valley.

A former coaching inn, the hotel takes its name from the local legend of Sir Richard de Gilpin who bravely fought and killed a particularly ferocious wild boar close by. However, its fame these days has much more to do with the warmest of welcomes, fine food, complemented by an extensive wine cellar, and an eclectic mix of cosy rooms.

A fusion of traditional décor and time-honoured ‘coaching inn ambience’, with a warm welcome and friendly service, assures a home-from-home delight.

Residents can take advantage of free membership to the nearby Low Wood Leisure Club.

For a relaxing moment, you can enjoy a drink next to the open fire.

The Wild Boar restaurant possesses character in abundance; oak beamed and cosy by candlelight, it delivers a delectable hearty and modern English menu, championing a whole host of local produce and seasonal ingredients. Embracing a passion for tradition and excellence the head Chef, Marc Sanders, makes full use of Lakeland’s natural larder when selecting produce for the regularly changing menu.

A choice of real ales, guest beer and a highly commended wine list make the bar a very sociable and extensive offering to complement the restaurant.

Routebeschrijving

By Car:
- Take the M6.
- Exit at junction 36.
- Take the A591 signposted Kendal & South Lakes.
- Continue to the end of the dual carriageway until you reach a roundabout (approximately 8 miles from the motorway); take the first exit, left, onto the B5284, signposted Crook and Hawkshead via the Ferry.
- The hotel is approximately 4 miles from the roundabout.
